How can you give up?

Blimey I have read some utter nonsense this early morning, too many supporters have given up with the Saints now and I find it staggering they are not going to the Peterboro game If West Ham win?

Overall we need just 6 points (maybe less) to get over the line and the way we battered Reading last night suggests that the players will get promoted.

It's been the most amazing season so far and we have a great chance of going up with the blue few getting relegated.

Pilchards I think everyone is feeling really ****ed off at the moment, one because we had a great chance to all but secure promotion, two to get one hand on the title, which imo, the football we've played and the goals we have scored, deserve, and three have just lost to a plastic club up the road who we totally outplayed.

West Ham will win today, but as you said we are still in a great position to win two more games to go up. See you at Peterborough, and keep the faith everyone.

People just letting off steam. We'll have 4000 plus there on Tuesday

Yeah, you're right. I was livid after the Portsmuff game and same again last night. If I had posted last night it would have been wrist slitting stuff. Knee jerk me up, but football is a passionate & emotional game.

In our own hands, but we just seem to be limping across the line (although we did play well in parts last night and just got punished by a very clinicalside).

Come 5:00 tonight and Brighton have ground out a result and I'll be a happy bunny again. However, if West Ham win then .....................

Pilchards is right, we need a bit of rationale!! Saints fans are the most negative fans I know! first and second all season, we can go again and beat Peterborough and then we are nearly there!! Reading had 4 shots last night, scored three and they all came from big mistakes!! We could have scored a hatful but it wasnt our night!! We go again!

Most seem to be on here. It is going to be tough, of course it is!

We just need to get 2 wins in 3 and starting Tuesday would be good, because if not we COULD be all level with the hammers with 2 to play. We both will be going to playoff chasing teams, we go first on Sat and they go on the Monday night game.... Big weekend that could be.

We played some great football last night but lacked the clinical finish that Reading had. At times we battered them but didnt apply the killer finish. Our back four let us down. Le Fondre is a very good striker. Play like that against Pboro and we will win. we will still go up and maybe there is still one or two more twists in the race to be the top team.Lets face it we have been in the top two the whole season so far.

If we play like we did lat night against Posh, who dont defend as well as Reading, and Boro, who will give us space, and we'll win both games.

We need to maintain our level of performance. Reading were absolutely clinical in punishing our mistakes, but we battered them.

Colin it's not about giving up but it is more about the realisation that potentially winning one of the best trophy's in English football is all but over. The reasoning behind this is I personally cannot see Reading slipping up in there next two home games against Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace. They may have trouble against Birmingham away on the last day but then again I think we will drop some points in one of our next two away games too.

As much as I want to get promotion I wanted to win his league and the trophy more. What glory is there in going up as the 2nd place paupers? Yes we had a great time last year and we were so far behind Brighton that we all knew it was highly unlikely that we would catch them. I enjoyed going up but personally on reflection you want to go up as champions surely, particularly when you have been top most of the season.

I am gutted, and whilst I still think we will stumble over the line and get promoted I will still be gutted as for me it looks like it will be opportunity missed whilst also giving the Skates more ammunition in saying they derailed our title ambitions. It is just not a nice feeling at all.

I think it's a minority making the noise, but the majority of Saints fans are pretty reasoned in their opinions.

At the end of the day, we have 3 games to go. And it's so in our hands.

We don't have to sit here begging that WHU slip up today, nope, it would be a bonus if they do - but we'd still be well ahead of them.

We're in a great position and although (Frustratingly) the title may have gone last night, automatic promotion looks odds on and that would be a remarkable achievement whatever you say.

Agreed well said I thought it was a great game last nite between 2 very good sides the difference was they were clinical with there chances & there keeper was excellent. If we play like we did last nite & tighten up a bit at the back we will get the 6 points we need. I am keeping the faith & going to Peterboro & middlesboro come you Saints

West Ham will win today. Anything Brighton can get will be a huge bonus, but let's assume worst case so we can't be disappointed. West Ham will win.

That still means they have to get an extra win and a draw in just 3 games, ON TOP OF whatever results we get. That's a massive uphill challenge for them and they have much tougher fixtures. I don't think I'd swap any of their last 3 for our last 3. Maybe swap our trip to Boro for their Hull at home, but both of those games are a lottery. Hull are just as likely to frustrate Wham at Upton as we are to catch Boro on one of their horrendous off days up at the Riverside.

Believe people!

Their game at Leicester is very tricky, it's 2 days after we play as well so they may have all the pressure on them in that game. I think that's the weekend it'll be pretty much done and dusted.

It's a good thing that the majority of the wrist slitters on here make up a tiny percentage of our support, and an even smaller percentage of out support that actually attends our matches. They have very nearly zero affect on what goes on at the club, so let them whine and moan and wind themselves into a frenzy on here, it means nothing.

Yea, that's why I normally avoid this place after a defeat. The same mongs that have started these 'Premier League we ARE having a laugh' threads, will be calling for Adkins' head after 10 games next season if we're in the bottom 3 of the prem.

Morons.

I actually think this season has one or two more twists and turns in it yet.

I wouldn't even be that surprised if we won the league on the final day. Granted, it's unlikely and it's Reading's to lose, but stranger things have happened.

Win at Posh on Tuesday and things will seem rosy once again.

Keep the faith!

It remains about what we do and that has to be our focus. If we worry about Reading and West Ham we won't have the focus we're going to need to win the last three games, which is what I think we'll now need to go up automatically. It's a big ask but we can still do it if we stop looking over our shoulder. As for winning the league or coming second, we need to see where three wins leaves us - it's no longer in our hands. And from our current position and from where we started, coming second to a reasonaly recent Premierhsip side who clearly have a great defence would not be a bad outcome. We've no right to first place simply because we've been there for most of the season.

If we get promoted, we need to improve massively to compete in the Premiership though (our current defence will be overrrun by any decent side with any pace) - but we only need to address that if we get there.

Just a thought, but if the worst happens, would this be considered a good season?

It will be a failure. I am already bracing myself for heated debates with the "if you'd told me in August...." gang. Anything other than promotion now is failure.

Of course we recognise the strides made but lets remember Cortese was targetting promotion as a minimum this season back in the Autumn.

That doesn't take away fron our brilliance on the pitch or in the dugout. I'm just not ready for noble failure yet.

Anyway. We're going up.

No doubt. This is the worry. Highly unlikely we just dust down and start again. Not going up may create a minor sh i tstorm.

But West Ham still have the pressure on. Reading have not had to be top and all the pressure that brings. And we can still do this.

i think we will but the wet fannies we have means play offs will make this place a no go area

then you will have the mugs that will demand adkins to be sacked etc etc

Looking back on the game Saints were actually very good. I think its just fans dont want the play offs again after Derby fiasco, I for one dont fancy going away for a 2nd leg to experience that again.

Saints had so many chances to kill off Reading its untrue and then to let in 3 goals to a team that only had 4 or 5 shots on target!!

After todays results anyhting can happen, so we just have to hope Saints win the 3 games left and West Ham slip up (its not likely bu who knows), but if we win all 3 then we are UP!

To be fair, the worst we'd finish is third so we'd be home in the 2nd leg. Not that we'll be in the playoffs!

Now is the time to walk tall.

We WILL win the couple of games we need. We WILL be promoted. Because we have the skills, the determination, willpower and character to overcome obstacles.

Now is the time to wholeheartedly get behind the lads, not cower behind the sofa. They deserve better.

COYR!!!

They'll be the same people who didn't think we could possibly get 2nd place last season bearing in mind how unstoppable Huddersfield were. Every defeat along the way seemed to suggest it was all over. We don't know what's in store over the next few games so why get so down about it? If it happens then fine, get upset but worrying about what MAY be seems pointless. We ARE still playing well aren't we? Scoring goals? We are still above West Ham and not the other way around aren't we?
