He is fine. Wickets do not suit him at present so they are using Dawson as the spinner to create a better balance in the side. He will come good when the wickets get dryer and harder.

Absolutely hate that tactic, and i know a few of the players do, too. Briggsy played for England this winter - he is more than capable of dealing with these testing conditions. A quality spinner is a valuable asset in any conditions, and learning to bowl in seamer friendly conditions is very important in english county cricket. Young players are only going to get better by playing. Very poor management.

I like Dawson and while he did a job there last season it seems ridiculous that we have two blokes who've opened in test cricket batting at 3/4 while he's struggling. Carberry has opened nearly all his career (and did for England Lions the other week) so it seems pretty obvious to move him up (despite his duck today!) and move Dawson back down to the middle order.

Worth recording an excellent 4 days at the Ageas Bowl with a win for Hampshire completing a Championship double against Glamorgan. David Balcombe was my man of the match. Scored some good runs at the tail and bowled Marcus North twice wehn he was well set. North was by far the best batsman on show.

Look outfor the name Maxwell. An Aussie paying for South Wilts. Could be one of our overseas player in T20 if complicated contract can be sorted.

Spoke to Dimi (and his wife with their delightful 8 month old son) earlier in the week. Fit but having just flown in and short of bowling he never expected to feature against Glamorgan.

Maxwell registered for T20! Some 19-ball 50s would be good! And his off-spin could be handy.

Interesting interview with Dawson on Solent Sport this morning. He does not expect to open again this season. He has rediscovered his bowling and is first choice 2nd slip. With that the pressure of opening becomes too much. He and the club see him as an established all rounder and he will now bat at number 5.

Makes sense.

Now scored a century.

Good news for Daws but doesn't sound like good news for James Vince and his development.

And another win last night thanks to D/L, pretty comfortable in the end! Nice to get KP out first ball too...

Anyone listen to Adams interview with Solent available on Audioboo ? He sounds positively depressed.

Good result by hants to go to semi finals day

Interesting ending. Last ball left of the innings, scores tied, Hants 178/6, Notts 178/7. Even if they had lost a wicket on the last ball, Hants would have won by the runs scored in the last 6 overs.

So why did they bowl the last ball? Game was already over. First time in history a match continued after the game was already won? :)

Pedant Alert!!

1st 6 overs and I assume the match has to be played out to give it an official result. Finals day at Cardiff on 25/8. The last two have been epic. If I'm going to miss one Saints game this season, it might as well be Wigan at home. Then again it might rain and the cricket plays on the Sunday.

Ah, first 6 overs, I misheard the commentator. Thanks for the pedantic clarification. ;)

Classic cricket really. You have a real tense ending and the game ends in farce with nobody knowing what's really going on. Much like our T20 final win over Somerset.

Defeated by Somerset in the 40 overs - Vince makes 95 but we have FIVE ducks (plus one 0 not out). Not very impressive!

Brilliant innings from Vince, really starting to tighten up and mature now. Katich got a stinker from the umpire, who can only have guessed at a nick off the gloves at best but some of the other dismissals, esp Adams, Ervine and Wood, were reckless. Dawson supported Vince well for our best partnership but this might be a blessing in disguise as with Finals Day in T20 and a promotion campaign to win, three pots on the go might have been too much for your young squad. Still very proud of them this season though so far.

Was there yesterday and couldnt understand the decision to bowl first. We dont chase well under lights and the pitch would only get slower as the game went on. Razzaq would have been less of a threat and Briggs and Dawson more so. Griffiths cannot be trusted with the final overs.

Without Dimi our batting ends at no.6. Bates/Wood/Hamzza used up 45 balls scoring 16.
