No thanks. Matt Jarvis would be a top signing, but I'd guess he'd go to an already established mid-table team on fairly big wages.

I'd rather we signed his brother. More firepower up front.

He had one great game against Hull when Burley gave him a game playing on the right. So for the rest of the season Burley played him on the left.

God I miss Whisky George.

I'm sure he'll be spotted in Winchester any day now, but hopefully not

Well I certainly hope so because the number of pints of rotting milk on the doorstep of his flat is starting to be a bit of a health hazard.

Wasn't Hamill the player that Whisky George managed to turn into a tub of lard? Or am I confusing him with another loanee?

No you're right, my abiding memory is that he was a fat little ****e.

I suspect we will be linked with all the ****e players on good contracts from the releagted prem clubs as their agents desperately try and hold on to their 15% of a prem salary... thankfully as I understand it we seem to have more common sense as a club.

The Sun linking us with him. Can't see us wanting to bring him back .... Thankfully.

Matt Jarvis on the other hand.

I'm going to start a checklist to debunk all these rumours, and I shall call it the HCDAJFU SCORECARD :

Personal Profile(Under 27)

(No reported attitude problems)

Availability(Not playing regularly for a team in Prem top 4 / Champions League QF)

(Out of contract)

(Doesn't have unrealistic wage demands)

(Not injury prone)

Suitability(Experience in League we'll be in / highly rated in the division lower)

(Obvious improvement on current player in this position)

Other Factors(Not linked with Saints in the media)

(Not ridiculously overpriced)

(Not being linked with top 4 sides)

11 categories, there I reckon you need at least 8 of these to even be a target.

Points off for having any of the following :

Negatives

(Linked with the club in the red-top print media)

(Premier League has-been - say fewer than 10 starts in any of the last 3 seasons at that level whilst at a Prem club)

(Ex-Saints)

(Rumoured Saints fan)

An overall score of 7 is an absolute minimum for serious discussion.

I hope we are taking a serious look at Ligue 1 and Bundesliga players if we do go up. Just look at some of the bargains Newcastle have picked up and where it's taken them. They got Cabaye for £4 million compared to Liverpool who got Henderson for £18 million!

I think we should look at carrying out a combination of Newcastle and Norwich's transfer strategy which would be better than signing some of these Premier League rejects that are getting mentioned...

I should also start a "definitely not signing" list - if a player only has any of these it counts against their score (the last two basically due to the "Lazy Journalism Factor".

Rather than have a thread for every player we'll be linked with between now and August, perhaps we should have a single thread for players we aren't being linked to. That way we keep the whole speculation malarkey down to 14 posts..... :-)

Applying these to Hammill :

Personal Profile

(Under 27) Y

(No reported attitude problems) Y

Availability(Not playing regularly for a team in Prem top 4 / Champions League QF) Y

(Out of contract) Is he?

(Doesn't have unrealistic wage demands) Y

(Not injury prone) N

Suitability(Experience in League we'll be in / highly rated in the division lower) Y

(Obvious improvement on current player in this position) N

Other Factors(Not linked with Saints in the media) N

Hammill gets :

Personal 2

Availability 2.5

Suitability 1

Other 2

Negatives -3

For an overall HCDAJFU of 4.5 - nowhere near the 7 point cut off for serious consideration, though significantly harmed by the "Lazy Journo" factor.

Let's try Sigurdsson :

Sigurdsson scores

Total 10 out of 11, a definite HCDAJFU.

If someone could find me a -4 I'd be amused... I'm thinking Anthony Pulis could be in with a shout, if only his media profile was higher.

I remember he came on as a sub in that cup tie when we got knocked out by Bristol Rovers, he was massive. Some other fat bloke scored a free kick against us and we lost 1-0.

So if he's improved as much as the other fatty you refer to we should sign him up pronto :-) I blame Whisky George fairly and squarely for any porkiness amongst our players at the time. Its what happens when you are a complete retard of a coach and you lose your assistant who made you look something like decent.

Here go the agents.

He's not been great for M'Boro to be honest, but he flopped in the premiership for wolves too. Wouldn't see him as an improvement to our right-side.

Spot-on.

Snodgrass / Matt Phillips / Zaha all WAY better options.

One Those 3 or Victor Moses, Jarvis or Peter Whittigham.

O'hara for the middle.

FACT.

Zaha was left side and is not really all that... Pretty much an English Steve De Ridder (with a decent step over instead of a knock forward and run)

I'd take Thomas Ince for the right side in a second, he's been consistently successful for a few months now, has become a regular for Blackpool with assists and goals.

Disagree, he put a fair few good balls in towards the far post but had no real support. In terms of beating players he had Fox on toast but we could afford to double-team him every time because he was literally their one and only threat. I would imagine its the same with most teams who play Palace so I don't think he'll flourish there.

I'd take a gamble on him, reckon we could get him for 4 or 5 million.

going to be a cracking player....he was mustered against us and other games I have seen of them lot on the box.
