Pancake Posted 12 April, 2012 Share Posted 12 April, 2012 ... but implied. (It's called 'reading between the lines'.) I think you're missing the point somewhat. The question was, paraphrased, who was the last team to win the second flight after being promoted from the 3rd tier the season before. The fact that that relies on successive promotions is "implied", its stated clearly.

JackFrost Posted 12 April, 2012 Share Posted 12 April, 2012 but that wasnt the question, FFS. Another dyslexic/illiterate gimper... Heheheheh. And it continues !!!!! I didnt tell Minty tighter moderation is required, I said this site could benefit with people taking the time to read posts from others properly before firing off the abusive/sarky response. A point that you have just proven in a way I could not have imagined a better example of... Serious question, do you honestly not see the irony here? SW5 SAINT Posted 12 April, 2012 Share Posted 12 April, 2012 The answer is Nottingham Forest won the Championship in 1978, following promotion from the 2nd Division in 1977. I think that answers the question.

Greedyfly Posted 12 April, 2012 Share Posted 12 April, 2012 Most ridiculous thread ever. Not the original post mind, that was quite good. The subsequent misreading that came after is hilarious though. By the way was the answer Fulham with Tigana? Jesus H Christ.
Lets B Avenue Posted 12 April, 2012 Share Posted 12 April, 2012 I believe we have an answer! Oxford United won the old division 3 in 1983/4 and then immediately won promotion as champions to the old first division by winning the second division in 1984/5. Most ridiculous thread ever. Not the original post mind, that was quite good. The subsequent misreading that came after is hilarious though. By the way was the answer Fulham with Tigana? Jesus H Christ. You said it. Greedyfly Posted 12 April, 2012 Share Posted 12 April, 2012 You said it. Please tell me you got the sarcasm intended by the Tigana/Fulham reference. And just a further aside....No. You said it. Given that the Championship has only been in existence since 2004 it was not a difficult question. No - no one has ever done it before. Norwich were the only team to get back to back promotions. But Oxford were promoted as Champions from Div 2 in 83/4 and then went up to the old 1st division as Champions in 84/5. Boro went up from Div 2 as runners up in 86/7 and then to the top flight through the playoffs the following year Watford got promotion from the old 2nd division as Champions in 1997/8 and then went up to the Premier League the following year as play off winners. Man City were promoted to Lge 1 as play off winners in 98/99 and then to the Premier League the following season as runners up (lasting only a season before bouncing back as Div 1 Champions in 2001/2). QPR won the old 3rd division in 1966/7 and then were promoted as runners up to the top division the following year.
kpturner Posted 12 April, 2012 Share Posted 12 April, 2012 What about the quickest a team has dropped in 2 years?Didn't Huddersfield once go 4th Div to 1st Div and then straight back down to 4th in 8 seasons? They would qualify for your "2 years" criteria.

Sadly for me, I don't think Huddersfield did it in 8 seasons either.
