Club Rivalry... Country differences

Tonight my local team Montpellier stand 3 points ahead of PSG at the top of the French Ligue. Even had they lost to local rivals Olympic Marseille they'd still be in top position like Saints are in the Championship.

What is amazing is that Marseille supporters and even players had been calling for Marseille to throw the game to ensure Montpellier win the Ligue. In their eyes it's their duty to support a fellow southern team. Marseille's hated rivals are the northerners, especially Paris St Germain.

Sad that we southerners in the Premiership find it impossible to support fellow southern teams and promote such hatred.

Have you been drinking Art?

There's no kudos in even thinking of throwing a match for whatever reason and then you go on to say that they have rivals they hate, just not this team.

How bizarre

The topic has been the talking point here in France since the weekend. Of course, there has been much horror at the supporter and player suggestions of throwing the game "because the southern teams should stick together. Didier Deschamps and Marseille officials have been furious at the comments of supporters and Marseille players alike. What is strange is that Montpellier have until tonight never beaten Marseille at the Vellodrome.

And yes, compared to the locals of Montpellier, the inhabitants of Marseille leave our Skate friends somewhat squeaky clean and respectable. There again, the fans of football in France are a lot different to those in the UK, having a very different outlook to those in the UK.

Are Marseille fans DFCSBs though? Are they shamelessly uneducated, unloyal, unhygienic, benefit scroungers who rip off local charities?

Fans of every team on earth should hate Portsmouth.

Bernard Tapie and the DFCSBs would have been a marriage made in heaven.

I'm surrounded by Reading fans, and they are a decent club and I'd much rather they go up than West Ham. I'd love for Sam Allardyce to screw it up!

And I think the south is under-represented in the Premiership.

Think I'd rather have a proper club like WHU up there than the plastic happy clappers at Reading.

What, you mean one that spent money that was not real?

Was a part of the imbecilic Iceland Bubble that developed in the crash that will harm all of us for many years to come?

Signed players that they could not afford on long contracts that never played due to injury?

Sold out their Heritage of Their Academy for Freddie Lundberg and other crocks?

Cheated with a Player ownership? Got fined 30 million but to date still have not started to pay that fine?

Sold their soul of their historical style of play for a desperate hoof and run game?

Bought ludicrous amounts of mediocre footballers in a desperate life or death gamble?

The ONLY differences between WHU & the DFCSB's are Trevor Brooking's job, London based Jouornalists and the fact that WHU haven't (yet) gone into Admin

Yeah they are a right proper club.

This. Us to go up with Reading. I really hope WHU stay down because of the way they play and everything DP has said above.

Apart from that I'm not fussed who comes up with us...Blackpool would be entertaining though and probably deserve another crack given that they invested their PL money sensibly last time (I don't like Holloway though). Apart from them, maybe Cardiff to come up too - Swansea v Cardiff in the PL would be epic.

Obviously Pompey to go down.
