Gemmel Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 Couldn't see one, but that's not much to go on in my state. Take a bow Dean Hammond and Jack Cork. Simply outstanding...... Premier League performances.
teamsaint Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 I agree about the Deano and Cork in MF, Cork for me was quite exceptional. Would love to know how many touches he had ! Chappers touch still looks a bit off his very best, but put a great shift in, and is hard to look past for a game as tough as Reading is likely to be. AS for the others, top performances all round. Just two dodgy moments, the shot over the bar just before HT, and the cross from the right late on, but we were in control for most of the 90 mins. Really impressed with the confidence of this performance after a bad day at Blackpool, and a sickener on Saturday. This team really has been a joy to watch for large parts of the season. Premier League performances. Let's get one thing straight. I agree they were fab but we would not have won the game without lambert. In second half he was awesome. Gemmel Posted 9 April, 2012 Author Share Posted 9 April, 2012 They were good but Palace were sh1t They weren't great, but not having that as an a reason for the result. A totally proffessional performance across the whole pitch. Capped by two great saves from a goalie that had fook all to do for the other 89 mins. We looked like Champions today. COYR Lallana made a great tackle for lambert to dispatch his second, but agree its good to see others pulling there weight today. Well done lads and and done saints fans, we were great today. Miltonroadboy Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 Just as when we played them down here,Palace gave us so much more room on the ball -unlike Pompey on Sat - and when that happens our passing game becomes so strong that few teams can live with us. But they did miss two golden chances - thankfully! Definitely the best game I have seen Cork play and as mentioned Hammond equally good , keeping it simple throughout. Defence played well also. Is it me or does Sharpe continues to look off the pace? He has no speed and ball control/link up play not good at the moment -he would struggle in the premiership on this form but it is stll early days. Rickie...... just superb!! LGTL Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 Great day. Hammond and Cork were immense, and notable mentions for Butterfield and Chaplow. Found a decent pub in Clapham after to watch the WHU game where food was half price all day, lovely.
scotty Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 To those just back from the game, hats off for another terrific display of support. red&white56 Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 Great display - Palace weren't brilliant but they weren't pushovers either. We won this game through our own endeavours. It's a bit disingenuous to suggest they let us win.
positivepete Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 Just the performance we needed, but to be fair Palace faded after the first goal and disappeared after the second one. Deono and Jack were not on top in the first half when their number 8 was playing well, but he is a big lad and ran out of puff chasing our constant switching of the play. Happy to take Nathan Clyne off their hands he has looked good in both games this season. Great day out, just the tonic after Saturday.
saints-cris Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 Great day out, got back jus after 6 which was a bonus as got to see the whole of the 2nd half of Brum clinging on for dear life. I said to my brother all I wanted today was a nerveless, comfortable and professional 2 or 3-0 win, which we did absoloutely perfectly. We really deserved the first goal, it had been coming and going in at 1-0 was definately a fair reflection. Once we got the 2nd, we killed the game off brilliantly. Palace couldnt try anything too risky as they knew they wouldnt get the ball back for another 3 minutes. Don't get me wrong, Palace were poor and their fans and players seemed to go about their business as if the season was over already. They let us play as we pleased which was what made it so easy when at 2-0. I did kind of think that playing a team with Scannell upfront by himself should really be easy pickings. Ratings: Davis - Two great saves early on, his distribution was immense too - 8. Butterfield - As always, solid and tidy. How many times does he put that cross on a plate for Ricky? - 7 Fonte - Very good, seemed comfy and won his stuff in the air, had an easy ride though - 8 Jos - Won his headers, and even went on a cheeky run up pitch. - 8 Fox - Dealt with Zaha very well, kept posession and always seemed to be free for a pass. - 8 Chaplow - Thought he was very good today, always busy and linked up with the strikers - 7 Hammond - Great game from him, loads of tackles and keeping the ball. One of his best performances - 8 Cork - Hes bang on form at the moment. Was a class above today. - 9 Lallana - Not an attacking force like he normally is, but he ran his socks off today. Did his work with Zaha and Clyne on his side, 2 of the better players in the league. - 7 Sharp - Seemed to chase everything and take some good touches. - 7 Lambert - Was so good today, touch was class. Too good for this level. Good to see him get a rest at the end too. - 8 Subs: Harding - Did everything required today, a very very good performance from him. - 8 Guly - Did well I thought, literally hate the atmosphere that surrounds him though, really grates me. But he did well. - 7 Steve - Wasnt on long enough to say really.

saintmatt Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 Special mention for Sharp today, thought he did really well. As we all know Rickie likes to drop deep sometimes and this means Sharp is effectively left on his own up top. Can be a horrible role to play but thought his hold up and harrying/chase-down play was great. First touch still not quite there but I'm sure this'll be something Nige'll work on! UTS! kpturner Posted 9 April, 2012 Share Posted 9 April, 2012 I loved Hooiveld's little jig and song after the final whistle while acknowledging the crowd. Reminded me of Jaidi last year at the end of the Bournemouth match.

saintscottofthenortham Posted 10 April, 2012 Share Posted 10 April, 2012 Just woke up for work, my head is POUNDING!!! What an incredible day. Wetherspoons before the game was quality, the atmosphere at the game was nothing short of superb, the performance from The Saints was that of Champions, a terrific display, then onto the Slug & Lettuce at Clapham where a pub full of Saints went mental with one West Ham fan sat smack in the middle with his missus throwing his toys out of his pram. Priceless. One of my best ever away days. I can almost smell the premier league. COYS!!!
rooney Posted 10 April, 2012 Share Posted 10 April, 2012 Agree that Jack Cork was superb today. He had so much time and space that he created for himself. That is what he and Morgan will be like in the premiership. So much to look forward to.

Barry the Badger Posted 10 April, 2012 Share Posted 10 April, 2012 We ended up going in a pub near Norwood Junction called the Jolly Sailor (I think) to watch West Ham. Got chatting to some Palace fans and they were saying they might hope for relegation next season as it seems to be a good way of building momentum for the Championship :-) They didn't believe me when I said Lambert wasn't fully fit. All in all a cracking away day, felt spookily reminiscent of Orient away last season.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 10 April, 2012 Share Posted 10 April, 2012 Brilliant day, including a cracking session in the Slug and Lettuce in Clapham watching WHam draw. I found the one west ham fan who was with his missus, having a giant temper tantrum highly amusing. Was a cracking atmosphere in there. I barely have a voice left after yesterday. Griffo Posted 10 April, 2012 Share Posted 10 April, 2012 Our support really wasn't that great today. You could tell most people rarely set foot in a Saints away end and everyone else seemed to want to sing the same 3 songs all the time. Loads weren't getting involved at all either.
