Saints v Reading build-up (the big one)

Am I the only one that feels our defence will get ripped apart if and when we get into the Premier League? Good enough for the Championship but really unsure about in the Prem

Hmm, without counting any chickens, if we do go up and play the way we do currently, I can see us getting taken apart by some of the bigger teams, basically anyone who plays with width and pace - Man U, Newcastle, Arsenal etc. Playing the diamond, as we often do, means our fullbacks provide most of the width, but get caught out of position if they go forward too much. IF we do go up, then we'll need better fullbacks, or more likely switch to 4-5-1/4-3-3, which we could do with Lee/Adam either side of Sir Rickie/Billy. Whilst fine for the lower leagues, 4-4-2 is a bit outdated in the top flight these days, whatever Mike Bassett says.

Deja Vu AGAIN FFS....

Recovering from possibly THE greatest exhibition of musical ability I've ever seen on a stage - The Eagles last night - and of course an associated hang-over, and have ONLY 12 hours to reciver before heading down the pub again this evening to meet up with our new Dubai Massive.

Goodfellas 2 Tecom from 9:30 ish to those passing through here

All I can say about you lot in the ground and the lads on the pitch

Take it to the limit.

I'm trying to stay focussed but it is difficult with a game on tonight.

I have a feeling we should all take this as just another game, another 3-points and not get so stressed about it being a Championship decider - because with 4-games left it clearly isn't!

Nigel will have got the preparation right, the players are at home in front of another sell out, and at night at SMS this can mean anything. Live on TV will not make any difference - this business of playing in front of cameras is a load of baloney! These are professional footballers doing what they enjoy, this is the time to put on another exhibition like aganst Middlesbrough - totally controlled.

Reading will have a plan - but they had a hard game on Tuesday and could be feeling it in their legs come the hour mark. Not sure if we will have the guile to beat their goalkeeper from distance, but remember Posh recently beat them 3-1!

After the disappointment of last Saturday - we are owed a big performance at SMS - so it was a wonder strike, and we all know they don't count!

There is only one thing certain about tonight, the neutral will want a good game and West Ham fans will want to see a winner. A draw is no good for their cause! If I was a betting man I would say 0-0 would be the final score, but I'm not a betting man. Love to win tonight, West Ham to lose to Brighton, and then on to Peterborough on Tuesday night for confirmation we are going up. However one game at a time - let's just make sure we do ourselves (fans and players) proud tonight on SKY and show the footballing world we are more than a one man team!

In Nigel we trust

Do it for Markus!

Pete, Hope everything goes well and just try and remember not to jump around each time we score!!

Could do with a few nurses and some anaesthetic to calm down my nerves - god knows how I'm going to last out till 2245 tonight for Kick Off!!

A nice Iced Margerita by The Pool sounds like a plan - after my blow out Full English that I'm about to cook!!

Is it worth drawing just to send big fat Sam and the KUMB board into a frenzy of conspiracy therories and a downward spiral of hate and anger....leading to enlightenment , humility and......another season in the championship for the not so mighty Hammers.

Probably not but quite a good plan B.

Bias pro-Reading article on BBC website essentially calling us a one man team. Nice.

The BBC absolutely hates us. Always has. First noticed during their radio commentary of the 1979 League Cup final when I was 10.

I've seen how they update their latests scores and active table on match day. Its disgraceful. It can take 15mins to show when we score, 30 seconds when the opposition does.

They've had a day more of rest.

They played: Friday, Tuesday, Friday

We played: Saturday, Monday, Friday

But we could have played for 5 hours at the pace of Monday's game. Was a walk in the park after Lambo's second. They had a gruelling game chasing the ball all round the park at Brighton, and they've had a day less to prepare for this one since our last round of games.

Sounds like Leigertwood is doubtful. From what I hear he and Karacan (out too as we all know) have been instrumental in their recent form. If our midfield plays like it did against Palace we'll no doubt have the control of the game. This is gonna be a game where we need to take our chances as their going to be limited. I think we should play at a high tempo from the KO and get at them. Same team as the Palace line up for me.

But since they played Tuesday and we played over 24 hours earlier, that argument doesn't really hold water. The extra day of rest is really only of benefit if it was since the last game, which it wasn't.

Up at 4:30 am for this one. I hate evening KO's much prefer lunch time so I can have a few beers and watch the game. Think my mrs would think i had a problem if i woke up at 4:30 and cracked a couple open for brekkie. :D

Still not sure how the game will work out, feel quietly optimistic. COYR

We USED to have a good record on a Friday night in ye olden days - the famous Danny Wallace overhead kick against Liverpool was on a Friday night, as was a good away win in the cup (Blackburn?) via David Armstrong.

Bearsy too young for Friday night wins!

I'm only familiar with David Armstrong cos there was this old game vs. Forest re-run on tv the other day and I was laughing at this little old man we seemed to have playing in midfield.

It turned out to be David Armstrong...

I don't care who Reading play in their team, the only difference between the two teams results in the last 12 games is a deflected free kick and a missed penalty at Brighton. Our record is W9 D2 L1 Reading W10 D1 L1. They are coming to play at St Mary's against the best home record in the league W15 D4 L2 44 15, they are going to meet a team who are battle hardened, well up for it and won promotion last season after an epic battle with Huddersfield. If they aren't absolutely on top of their form they are in for a torrid night. Whatever their fans think.

From all my years of watching Saints, any player that's generally been rated as "doubtful" to play against us always seems to start. I fully expect to see Leigertwood in their line up tonight, which will be gutting as he makes a big difference to their side.

Indeedy! It doesn't matter a jot what the clock says, if I'm listening to the Saints, I'm having a beer. It's a law right up there with gravity and buttered bread falling wrong side up.

I've just made sure I've got everything I need installed to watch the game on the garage laptop for when I need a smoke......Ready to go now. I still have work to do, but as with Monday, I just can't seem to get on with it. I need this match to start NOW!!!!

Yet Lawro has predicted us to win.

And Lawro's assessment is largely based on Saints indifferent display against Blackpool, so fair play, on that evidence it was true that we lost and Lambo wasn't in the team.

I agree with him and we will win tonight, score two goals and concede one - because we will be playing with the team that saw out Palace, and not only won, but regained composure and confidence.. 2-1!

That's the spirit!

Can't wait - it's going to be a cracking game of football, right up to the 95th minute. If we play at the top of our game, it will take something quite exceptional from Reading to beat us.
