Saints v Reading build-up (the big one)

Penultimate home game of the season. A win would have promotion in our sights. All depends on the West Ham and Reading results today and tomorrow respectively but could be the one that (not mathematically) sends us up. A draw would be alright but a lose would be a tad annoying. COYR!!!!!!!!!

Same team, possibly Frazer in for Butters, although the latter sounded decent enough on the radio today.

Call me a clucking, road crossing bird but I would take a point from this if you offered it now. Keeps us top whatever Wham do. Probably best we don't win as the bloke standing in front of me will drown in a tidal wave of jizz.

LMFAO. Good reminder for me not to wear light coloured trousers down the pub on Friday night. A good sturdy pair of shreddies as well will help.

Ladies bring your brollys just in case though!! LOL

We will leave at around 3.30 and park up by 6.30. Have a sarnie and a coffee and then go to our seats where we will watch an excellent game of football with Saints winning three more points. I am optimistic and have been since we went into second place after beating Leeds so comprehensively. We haven't been out of the top two all season and I for one am so proud of our lads. We will arrive home at around 0100 on Saturday chuffed to be Saints.

PS.Don't know if Billy reads this but I owe you two pints for Saturday!

I think we will win. We played so well today and kept the ball so well. I wanted us to be ruthless and get 4 or 5, but we really did take the pee out of them, and looked like a team who are top of the league.

If Brighton can nab at least a draw against Reading I feel their players might just crack a little under pressure. If they beat Brighton they'll probably be massively fired up and we're in for a corker, (I may need an EMT on standby if this is the case.) If we lose to Reading we can all but kiss the title goodbye, (not a guarantee I know,) so I'mexcited and horrified in equal measure.

Trekking down to this one, and out on the razzle before and afterwards with a few Reading mates. My one and only home game of the season. Would be fantastic to win, but Reading have looked decent lately so would take a draw. I will make sure I have my face paints and bright red balloons at the ready to impress Turkish.

Am I right in thinking this is a "mustn't lose" game? because then we stay above Reading (presuming they don't beat Brighton by 11 goals)

As has been previously stated:

WIN = We're as good as up

DRAW = Depending on Brighton v Reading result, we're in a great position

LOSE = Depends if WH can win but it's squeeky bum time (again)

I would be quite confidence about this one if it was not for the fact it is on Sky given out recent performances in front of the camera's.

I feel the same, having watched the Blackpool game over here, followed by finding a feed for the Pompey game. I have also suffered the 'hanging on desperately' at Leeds game, home to Blackpool and home to Leicester and was at SMS for Palace at home. I have yet to see a convincing Saints performance this season. I know they do it - evidence the comments from the Palace game and countless others - but I have yet to witness it. So up again at 4:45am and hoping for the best. Would be delighted with a point, and finally a performance in front of the cameras.

Anyone else think Butterfield could be a decent option right midfield for the remainder of this season? Probably not the time to be experimenting and he isn't exactly a long term option but the fact he delivers such good crosses from deep I feel would work perfectly with Richardson overlapping.

Control the controllables, so we should forget the result in Brighton V Reading tomorrow. If Reading lose we will be looking just a little bit closer, but still not over the finish line.

However, I thank we'll struggle against Reading - they have pace and skill in their side, plus they also have some tenacity too. I can see this being a 2-3 loss. (;

Win = we're almost certainly up, and almost certainly as champions

Draw = we're almost certainly up, probably as champions, but a bit 60-40ish on that issue

Lose = we're still probably going up (70%+ chance) but most likely as runners-up (maybe a 30% chance of being champions)

We've been top for most of this season. Reading are Johnny-Come-Latelys and if they think they can usurp that position, they have another thing coming. I reckon we'll turn on the style and win this, and I'm ALWAYS aprehensive when predicting Saints results! I have more Reading supporting friends than any other team - I need us to finish above them!

I still think we'll find an unlikely hero in our last 4 games - I'm still undecided as to whom. Danny Fox perhaps.

I reckon there is something wrong with the emotional make-up and depth of someone who has to characterise every bloody issue in life with statistics...

it will be interesting to see if reading make any unforced changes for tonight's game bearing in mind we have extra day of recovery. i dont think they have the strength in depth like we do even with our injuries at the moment. do they go all out tonight and place strongest 11 possible to increase gap between them and west ham or do they freshen it up a little with friday in mind? i guess it is a case of are they looking ahead or behind?

Its a good question.

If I were them, I would still be aware of Wham breathing down our neck (all the talk on KUMB is about catching Reading, they still think they cannot reach us). So I would look to expand that gap by playing the strongest team tonight.

I would think the main thing for them, like us, is promotion, not the title. Therefore I would think they want the win tonight and would be happy with the draw on Friday.

Also, Brighton still have something to play for, so its going to be a tough match.

Well, based on Empirical evidence/Deja Vu, this is going to be a draw.

Yeah, unfortunately it's lining up the same as last weekend - The night before - Eagles gig (as opposed to Kaiser Chiefs), leaving another hangover on matchday.

Only possible change of circumstances is that I have a longer recovery time this Friday - 10:45 pm kick off instead of 4pm. (Might allow me to keep up with Eric in the pub)

It is that time of year, this stuff comes thick and fast before the empty summer months. Take the opportunity, secure the points/pints....

Because the following week I'll be nowhere near any 'puter as am on future son in law's stag weekend.....

Sorry, what was I thinking.

Nobody could keep up with Eric in the pub on match days

Getting away from Superstitions? I think Saturday allowed us to recover our swagger. Think it will be a case of "Hello Boys, we're back"

Guly to come on as sub and hit a screamer winner

Poyet reckons Reading are the best team in the Championship

Well, he's not going to say it about us, is he ?

I really feel sorry for his petty chip on his shoulder.

Besides, he pay have a bit of a point. I wonder if the Wham fans have a bit of a point about us being a one-man team.

Not sure why this thread was started given that our good friends up at KUMB have actually started a match thread for us there:

http://www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=139678&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

I think most are rooting for a home win after their result tonight....!

This post on that thread did make me laugh:

Line-ups:

Lamberton - Cheat, Diver, Diver, Cheat, Diver - WHO?, Diver, Cheat, **** - Cheat, Lambert

Reading - Time-waster, Time-waster, Cheat, Time-waster, Left-foot-deadball-specialist - Pi**-taking Frog, Cheat, Time-waster, Time-waster - Fouling lump, WHO?

0-0. Big moment late in the 2nd half when a football match almost breaks out. But both sides quickly revert back to type. Yaawwwn.

I'm completely not offended and it did genuinely make me laugh....

Good call but I think it is more about the pairing. We have played some good players on that side - Guly, SCR, Chaplow, Cork, Puncheon, Butterfield and Richardson but its finding the chemistry where they click together in the same way that Bridge and Marsden used to do on the left. Butterfield and Chaplow have been the best combo for quite a while.

Poyet reckons Reading are the best team in the Championship

He doesnt say that - only says they are the best team in the league right now.

Fantastic presser from poyet:

His views on gringo refs, Brighton being a dirty team, opposition fans and the pressure on us, reading, whu, brum and b'pool to go up are hilarious.

Thing is, I bet there is some now - I suspect the recent loan to equity conversion was timed because we are 'likely' to go up - and if you take off the club purchase price, we have spent 18 mil over 3 years above our revenue (not as much as some for sure, but a fair whack nonetheless). I suspect this is from Markus's 'provision for the club', but I bet NC is keen to speed up the the '5 year plan' to a 3 year one.... top performance form all at the club.

Poyet can say what he likes, he knows there will also be pressure on them to, to use the momentum of last year.... we also know he's likely to be off if they dont make teh playoffs or promotion when a lower level prem club have a vacancy....
