Good win though, didnt listen so how did we sound ? Looking forward to FLS tonight

2nd half we were outstanding, as the words of Merrington ''we destroyed Palace with our passing football''

Just got in after a drive down the A3

Dominated after the first 20 mins, 2 good goals against a Palace side who played like the season was over.

Great Support

then read this thread and see the doom merchants are at it, Alpine saying Reading will regain initiative on Friday , good job he lives abroad

Me i am looking forward to the party but we need the 6000 JCL's to hold their nerve Friday

Some comical stewarding today - a guy in front of me standing in the gangway was told to get back in his aisleside seat but some other guy was already stood there cue argument with the old bill and stewards - no one seemed particularly interested in checking the tickets though - duh. Surely not both fans could have had the same seat number?

Could have been sorted easily without all the aggresive posturing

Was a very, very good performance from us. Defence looked solid (Although Butterfield still worries me) but a good cross from him for the first. Didn't even think it went in as it rebounded off the advertising boards!

Lambert's second was a peach. 30 for the season. Lad.

Cracking atmosphere as well, when we sung it was loud....although the same songs over and over. Still, who can complain?

Davis - 8 - Two superb save's in the first half.

Butterfield - 7 - Good cross for the 1st goal however still looked dodgy against pace.

Fonete - 8 - Nothing beat him all day.

Jos - 9 - Won everything. Even went on a mazy run that made Lallana look ****e.

Fox - 8 - Best game i've seen him have in a saints shirt.

Chaplow - 8. Everywhere and didn't stop running.

Hammond - 9 - My MOTM. Got stuck in, a real leaders performance.

Cork - 8 - Carried on from the Pompey game, did well.

Lallana - 7 - Not too much from him today but did nothing wrong.

Sharp - 6 - Needs a touch and still doesn't look fit.

Lambert - 9 - Two goals. Legend. Enough said.

just back. What a brilliant day topped off by the bluenoses hanging on for bare life for a point. Saints were top notch today. At last we playe d a passing game from the back, through midfield and back round until space opened up for a cross. After a nervy five ten we dominated completely and once Ricky scored it was one way traffic. We hogged possession and were patient to go with it. Whenever Zaha got on the ball we were all over him and second balls were ours all day long.

David 7 Two very good saves, punched, commanded area. Solid as a rock. Distribution quick and great too. Not over worked.

Butterfield 6 Struggled early on with Zaha skinning him, looking well off the pace and giving the ball away, but he did settle down, got a load of help from Chaplow and thankfully Zaha swapped sides. Great cross for the goal and then he kept the ball very well and was never troubled afterwards. He's so slow, but he showed very good composure and put some the good crosses in (and the odd crap one).

Fox 9 Outstanding game. He stepped up a level today and when Zaha came across he didn't give him an inch. This is what he needs to do. Get tight, get physical and show some strength. He did all this and Zaha only got the better of him once. Could not ask more of him.

Fonte 9 Strong, got tight to the striker and composed on the ball and off it

Jos 9 Physical, all over their striker. Great game

Lallana 8 got between the lines, made himself available all the time. Delivery wasn't always great, but what I liked most was the effort he made defensively. He chased hard all game and put them under pressure. He also recognised the threat of Zaha and made it very hard forhim. Brilliant team performance

Cork 10 What a game. He's got some stick for some under par displays recently, and despite the huge effort on Saturday he still gave it away a bit too much, but today he was outstanding. He ran the game and totally dominated the middle getting onto almost every second ball. He kept the ball well, I can't recall him giving it away once, a lot of square and backwards stuff, but only once we were ahead. You could not ask more of him. He was so sharp to any danger and gave them no where to go.

Hammond 7 worked hard as always, sliding into to lots of tackles. With Cork he just didn't give them a sniff in the middle. Only negative was being outpaced once when one of their payers came inside enabling them to get a shot off that was well saved by Kelvin.

Chaplow 8 Back to his best. Energy and drive. Intercepting passes, putting them under pressure then bursting forward. Gave Zaha nothing hence he moved across to the other side. What a great time for him to find his form again. If he plays like that against Reading we have every chance.

Sharp 7 Brilliant first half. The best he has played for us by miles. His all round game was excellent and he showed a side to him I didn't think he had. He was very quiet in the second half as the ball didn't really come his way, but so happy as maybe we have got a player here that can offer what we need - Finishing and link up play.

Lambert 8 Talking of finishing, Lambert stepped up again and gave us the cutting edge we longed for on Saturday. Brilliant header and tremendous second. Almost completed the left right header hatrick as well. Was much more at the races today, maybe not right back to his sharpest best, but you wouldn't have noticed when he had the goal in his sights.

Harding Perfect when he came on. Got tight, worked hard, got forward, overlapped and kicked them.

de Ridder usual crop circle stuff that wasted time nicely

Guly got stick for not chasing one ball down the line when Sharp was closer and his job was to fill the middle to stop the ball being worked out that way. He responded to jeers by chasing hard and putting in sliding tackle. Won a header and a tackle. The fans seemed happy, well some did. Not on long but did well for me.

Top marks to Adkins. The side were all over them. Bottle'd it? Have we ****.

When we played theem a few years ago and drew 1-1, the stewarding was shocking. Yhe stewards were xausing problems and were picking fights with supporters. They do not seem to have changed.

Good post by Chez just above, agree with pretty much all of it. Once we got the second we kept possession so well, tiki-taka is not just for Spaniards. Lambert's second goal looked quality. Re: stewarding, I do wonder if there were some ticket problems. Mine got lost in the post supposedly so I went to get a duplicate, opened the envelope (marked 1 ticket) and there were 3 inside (don't worry I was a good boy and went back to point out the mistake).

re Guly at the end. Just before the final whistle he got the hump with Billy Sharp I think. I suppose because Sharp had a long range shot instead of keeping possession or not passing to him.

your answer will not be accepted by those who want to blame the support for what happened at the end.

Just got back. Saints overall played well, 1st half under pressure. But Kelvin made 3 great saves. They missed to sitters and then 2nd half we were much better. Chaplow aded to the `bite` which we missed. Lambert is quality even half fit, 2nd goal just side stepped defender and bang back of net just like Le God.

With results going for Saints a Brillaint win!! Le lambo stikes again...oh and Guly did make a tackle but how did he miss open goal

Also thought Hammond was on a par with, if not better than Cork. Your comments also overlook how easy Palace made it for us in midfield - everyone was flattered a tad. Dikgacoi, their supposed enforcer, was utter garbage. As such, would reserve judgment on Chaplow being back to his best. Likewise, the game suited Cork who is still lightweight IMO.

Definately something going on there as Sharp was shaking his head at what seemed like Guly for not running onto a ball through leaving him to try and chase it down

I'd have to disagree completely with that. I was in seated at the very far left of the Saints fans as we looked at the pitch and in some cases they were 2 deep in the aisle. There was absolultely no attempt by the stewards to deal with it as the fans were generally well behaved. A policeman also saw someone with a beer, but the guy must have been about 10-15 seats in and, when the copper pointed it out to a steward, he postured as if to do something about it, but you could tell he wasn't really bothered and it was forgotten about.

As away stewards go, I thought Palace were absolutley fine and just let us get on with enjoying the game.

Just got in. Me and my two lads are not regular away support so today was a really great day out. I have to say the stewards and blokes on the turnstiles were nice to the kids, so no complaints from me. With regard to the football, I thought we looked back to our controlled and effective best. Actually Cork and Hammond looked much like they did over the first games of the season, when Morgan couldn't get a game, so no desparate panic if we have to manage without him for the last four games I think. Admittedly Palace didn't put up the stiffest of opposition, but we surely have enough to get over the line now anyway. The title is more a matter of pride and will be exiting rather than the stress of missing out on auto promotion.

Several other reflections; No nerves from the support today, just plenty of noise and enthusiasm. We were right behind the aisle on block U, and there were 4 or 5 lads in front of the aisle. When Rickie hit the second, one of the poor f***ers fell backwards over his seat. He was spread out on the aisle and it looked like another one jumped on him with a full tongue in throat snog. I ushually shudder at man-love a bit, but it was quite funny. The whole feel of the occasion and passing so many coaches on the way home felt like a cup semi. Brilliant day.

Nothing odd about my marks but you are right about Dikgacoi being utter ****e, so perhaps that did make it easier for our central midfielder, but you can only beat what is in front of you and our CM pair killed them and Cork was the main man. Don't subscribe to your lightweight description.

Brilliant performance, brilliant atmosphere, brilliant result(s)!

I thought everyone played well today, in particular Fox, Lambert, Sharp and Hammond (my MoM).

Couple of days of rest and need to get right up for the Reading game.

Just got back. A classic away day that I will not forget. It was almost a complete performance from the Saints. It was a joy to watch us play the ball around so confidently. The support was brilliant from our 6000. Shame about the 10 urinals for every 3000 supporters. That was a joke. Midfield were top class, and the full backs did well linking up with the wingers. I thought Butterfield did much better than the 6 out 10 that someone awarding him on this forum. I couldn't fault his performance. Jack Cork and Deano were 100% committed and timed their challenges perfectly. Well done boys. Reading will be a big test.

Got back an hour or so ago, great win, great support from most, though some decided to not clap nor sing throughout, slightly odd, but each to their own.

Some things that stood out for me:

Butterfield actually gave a very good display, rarely beaten by Zaha, made some great challenges and kept pace with him well, some neat link up play, too.

Lambert was imperious.

Davis produced some top quality saves.

Fox was quality.

Our midfield was sublime, Chaplow was nearly back to his early-season performances, and Deano was a rock, some great challenges and harrying.

Support was quite good indeed, though as noted earlier many didn't contribute.

I thought cork was very good on saturday
he had a good game, but he was even better today. On Saturday he was a fraction too slow releasing the ball once or twice, he was never put under that sort of pressure so didn't ever get caught, but today he just stepped up a level and got old of the game completely. Work rate was tremendous and he just had that drive. Positional play defensively was first class too. That little ball from midfielder to forward is just never on as he (and Hammond) just get in the right places to prevent it. That has been the biggest improvement on last season. We hardly ever get cut to ribbons through the centre. Great to see him back to his best.

Just got back myself after watching a win that was so comprehensive that I'm now wondering why I was worried on Saturday evening!

What I found really telling that those of us there had no nerves and we just got, loudly, behind the lads.

Cork MOTM for me.

Palace fan on the train back to Coulsdon South said that was the best they've played in a while!

Not a gret move by Guly, but he was clearly frustrated by his miss, and also not being played in by Sharp ner the end when he was free. I think he is a very frustrated player. If we go up, he will be gone.

Totally agree about Guly. It's a tough life being a pro footballer, earning lots of money isn't it ? Crosby got hold of and gave him a cuddle, ah bless...get a life, take your criticism and make a difference when you come on, rant over !

Well that was a Wizard Wheeze today, Saints in control apart from on the very rare occasion. The local pubs were splitting at the seams, coach after coach of Saints fans rolling up the main street, the cyclists getting a round of applause as they walked down the road in search of something decent to eat. The Coppers all seemed well humoured. Chuffin Bloody Great big Eagle flying up and down the pitch (which even gave the regular Palace fans the frightners as it did a handbrake turn over them when it over shot its handler) Made the ref stop in his tracks as it did the last fly-by.

I think Chez covered the player points very well, although I thought Butterfield did better than the marks given. For me MOTM was Fox, he has great vision and great confidence in his ability. To be honest to give a thorough assessment of the team might have been slightly off course through having 2 6 foot lads standing on the upper step of their row right in front of me, along with a stand post!!!

A final comment, only the Coppers were geared up for nye on 6000 Saints fans rocking up: if anyone wants to slag the concourse counters at Saint Mary's come to a few away games and try and get a bite and a drink at some of the away crap holes we have played at, Lec the Pole might not understand the difference between Balti and Cornish but we have luxury at SMS when it comes to a pie and a pint.

Recovered enough now methinks.

Really enjoyed listening to DM crowing his way through the game and what a performance from the fans. Sounds like they had a ripping day out, so pleased for them.

That second goal was like a dam breaking in terms of my emotions. That was the moment I knew we can do this.

It sounded like we were back to our "imperious" best, moving the ball at will (loved the Ole's). But deep down although we were dominating them our recent form hadn't been good and I felt our confidence could still be fragile.

But that 2nd goal? Belief flooded back, not just into me but from the commentary it finally flooded back through the entire team.

6 points from 4 matches settles it. This side has been doing that throughout NA's reign.

WHU no doubt riven by divisions and recriminations, but we have been here before last season and now it seems that the players REALLY believe we are good enough to do it.

Just back. Palace rarely threatened and when they did, a couple of excellent pieces of defending from Fonte and Harding thwarted them. Cork was fabulous and it was nice to see Chaplow getting back into the rhythm. Support was fantastic, great day out.

People need to give Guly a break...people were having a go at him for missing a header after Fonte should have scored when it was incredibly difficult to generate any power into the header. We would not be where we are today without Guly's goals and assists. Yes his performances may have dropped in standard as of late and his general body language can give the impression that he isn't fussed, but I think that is just a South American thing you sometimes get. He is the type of player that can create something out of nothing, so lay off him and get a grip.

Here is a picture someone took from the Palace end of our support today.MqNPZgXc
