Our Midfield: Looking ahead.

The midfield is heart of any team and if you control the midfield, you boss the game.

So, assuming we are promoted... who cuts it and who doesn't?

In my opinion, Hammond has probably found his level in the Championship and I sometimes feel he fails in his link up play and is not as effective in the DCM role as Schniederlin, and I also do not think Schniederlin and Hammond are a good pairing(far too defensive).

For what it is worth, I feel that if we were to get promoted, we should let Hammond go. I think Schniederlin and Cork are good enough. Schniederlin is very calm, collected and reliable which is all we want in a DCM. As for cork, he is not too defensive minded, and not too attacking either. Personally, I would prefer a defensive central midfielder paired with an attacking one, but cork is definitely good enough.

As for the rest, Guly needs to buck his ideas up and get back to his early season form. Back then, I thought he was good enough but recently he has been cack. He contributes nothing and gives the ball away. I want the Guly that ran half the pitch to tackle a player and succeeded. Time will tell on this.

Lallana is a cert in my opinion. Skillful enough for the premiership and it may actually suit him better as skill and speed matters more in the premiership than brute strength.

De Ridder, I am slightly concerned about. He is fast, sure and he moves quickly and has a lot of turns and flicks, but I feel he often just goes down dead ends. I guess he is good at holding up the ball though. The jury is out for me on him.

Chaplow I think could do it, but since his injury has not really been the same. He could be a back up to come up in a scrappy game as he is great in that situation. Though, I guess scrappy games would probably happen less often in the premiership.

In conclusion to this ramble of a post, I think we need one central midfielder and one right winger.

We need a central midfielder who has the natrual ambition to get forward, knowing he has the security of Cork and/or Morgan behind him.

Someone like Sigurdson *sp - not saying we'll get him, but that's the sort of ambitious central midfieder I think we need. The 3 we have are good, but a little similar and sideways.

That is my overiding want, an attacking minded central midfielder. Chaplow did play that role well for a while, but I don't think he could do it well enough in the Prem.

He's had a poor year this season though, although that's probably just down to the club he's at. He also seems to be slightly injury prone......but he's that stocky little midfielder that would add to us, for sure.

We need a box to box midfielder. Our midfielders are too box to halfway line.

they are no doubt all capable of playing box to box, this is Nigel's system. If the full backs are going forward then the midfielders have to cover them.I think Cork scored 5 or 6 for Burnley last season, this season with us he has a different role.Morgan has scoreed more for France than he has for us, it's about systems.

The team are top of the league and the league's top scorers so the current system Adkins likes to use is doing something right. A more attacking central midfielder would chance the balance of the side.

Cork and Schneiderlin will be fine for the Premier League. I think we will need to sign another player similar to them as I think Hammond's level is high end Championship.
