How nervous are you?

bender

After we beat Hull and moved 9 clear of Wham (albeit with a game more played) and 5 of Reading I suddenly realised we were on our way up.

Since then ive been a nervous wreck listening to all the games and calculating all the placements should certain results happen.

After Saturday i've decided I'm not gonna be nervous anymore. Whatever happens happens. And besides my main worry was that we'll be in the play offs v the cheating BHA and i'm sure thats not happening now.

When we moved 9 points clear of third I was still sure that Saints would manage to grab 3rd place. Wish I could tell myself not to be nervous 'cos it would make for a more restful night. By 3pm I'm likely to be right on edge even though there's nothing I can do to alter events at Selhurst Park.

I shall try to take my mind off things by painting my new Titanic model. Mind you, there's another thing that managed to screw up on an away trip from Southampton. :|

A sinking ship in Hampshire. Why not paint it blue and white.

The voice of experience.

All we can do is cheer the lads on for 90+ mins.

do we want to reveal our worst nightmares?

Yes the thought of a playoff game at Brighton with their own ref is one I've feared for a while.

The heart fears dropped points today and a home defeat by Reading on a nightmare Friday the 13th leaving us in 3rd on the final day.

But the head says we have been there all season, we fought under pressure last season at the climax, it's never easy to get promoted and I wouldn't swap places with West Ham.

They have some tough games to come.

WIN today and the world looks a much nicer place.

And let's also look at the facts, we are good enough to negotiate the lottery of the play-offs if we get our act together.

Trust in Nige.

But if I'm not actually there I can't listen to games on the radio.:scared:

The worst bit about listening to merrington and co is the having to listen to the lunatics who text in at the game,

just when you hope to hear a decent few interviews the continualy read out several retards messages

Today is the biggest day for our season, if we win and brum draw or beat WHUFC we go 6 points clear of them and can afford to draw with reading, if we can be 4 points or 6 points clear after reading game we would all but be promoted and would only need a win vs either peterboro or cov to go up, as were bound to lose at boro.

This although to be fair this is after the game. If im listening to the game on Player I usually turn it off after its finished.

Some of the comments on the way home on Saturday were stuff of bell ends.

I am very nervous about it - which is good - after Reading won at WHU I was over confident as were the team I think. Now I think we need to roar them on, they need to play their hearts out, and cruicially we need some luck a la Leeds and Millwall not the sort of luck we had on Saturday.

The other scary thing is the games are coming so close together we'll either be promoted or in the playoffs maybe after Peterborough next week!! Lets stay together be positive and make it happen starting this afternoon!

Having supported Saints for over 40 years I rarely have confidence in them due to too many let downs and mental scars. The most recent being Saturday in the 94th minute, I just knew the equiliser was coming however late it was in the game.

However twice this season I allowed myself to be confident these were just before Bristol City away and the run of potential easier pre-christmas games and again after the recent Hull away and a 9 point gap to West Ham. I should have known better !!

Am I nervous ?, of course I am, however tonight we could be either 7 points ahead of West Ham or 1 point ahead, a huge difference to our promotion prospects.

We are Southampton and being in my 40s you know whatever we do it isn't going to be all Disney channel perfect world with very little to fear.

I also know that we are playing in probably one of the most competitive Football Leagues in the world, where any result is possible: and that makes it so much more enjoyable.

That said the Butterflies have been kept in check all season, although a solitary one did break ranks on Saturday morning as we made our final approach to our parking spot! Right now there is a bit of shuffling about going on amongst them: wish there wasn't but it certainly makes things more exciting in a macabre way!

West Ham play at 5.20 today - by which time they will already know what our result was.

On saturday - they play Brighton at home. We play friday night - so West Ham will (again) already know our result.

Unfair *****s. ;-)

That's b/llocks. It's always better to play first and put the pressure on.

The Question posed was "How nervous are you?"

Not at all. Take each game as it comes and stop the negativity which is fast becoming the HallMark of posters on this Board.Have you even considered how much Brighton want to beat Reading? Brum to beat the Sham?

Brighton have a big say in things if you ask me. Reading home & West Ham away are their next 2 games. Poyet will demand results in both - if only to get them back into the play-off places.

We just have to concentrate on winning our own games of course - but a helping hand from Brighton sure wouldn't go amiss!

Get a ****ing grip

Football is just a game a past time it will not be the end of the world if we dont go up.

That said we will be in the PL next season because West Ham will not catch us

Not really that nervous. I expect us to achieve promotion, but it is not the end of the world if we miss out.

Weirdly enough, the journey we've made over the last 7 years has provided me with a bit of perspective!

Jos will score today after missing two consecutive headers for corners in the last two games.

I'm not too confident that we will win today but if we stop them from scoring and jos scores then we will be fine.

Nervous a bit but quietly confident

Didn't know you cared - reminds me I must remember to pack a warm blanket x

Local fixture for me but still leaves us both boros...

I'm trying to counteract my nerves by telling myself that it wouldn't be so great to be in the Prem anyway; it's been good going into most games for the past three seasons being hopeful of a win, which wouldn't be the case if we went up!!

This is what I've been thinking. There may be only 5 games left in which we go into them hoping/expecting to win, or have a fine chance of winning. If we go up, next season will be very different. I think we should enjoy these remaining games while we can.

All this just goes to show that the pressure at the top is just as high as down at the bottom. It's not easy being top, but against (let's face it) all the odds we've managed to stay there for the majority of the season. None of us expected this this season. You don't stay top this long by being lucky. If you're top after 40-odd games, then you deserve to be, because you're the best team in the league.

We should not forget how good we are, cos we ARE good. We wouldn't be top if we weren't. Despite all the Guly haters, we're still there. Despite disappointing derby draws, we're still there. Despite 0-3 away defeats, still there.
