I think the game has moved on and dirty Leeds were lucky to finish the game with more than 8 on the pitch the other day. Cork and Morgan will be more effective in the premier league and IMHO Chaplow runs around a lot but is limited technically.

His performance for United in the champions league second leg v Juventus in their treble season is one of the best examples of a captain dragging his team back into a game I've ever seen. Still we don't want players like that, we want nice boys who post how great the fans are on twitter.

A handful of adequate performances in CM and a season full of terrible ones at centre back doesn't make a player the best central midfielders in the last 7 years IMO. In fact he wasn't even the beat CM in that team, Viafara and Guthrie were much better players.

Cork, Hammond and Morgan are all too similar. I wonder if we could play 4231 with lallana in behind the front man. But that would mean we need a new left sided midfielder/winger ala Matt Jarvis.

Guly can play that role behind the front two as well. however it would mean Fox and Richardson can't get forward so much and they have provided a number of assists. There would be no place in the team for 4 goals in 3 games Billy Sharp. Lambert would be our lone striker so unable to drop deep or wide which has does to such great effect. as you rightly say we'd need a left sided midfielder if we were to play Lallana in the middle. De Ridder is a winger, you need to be able to do a bit more than "put in a decent cross every now and then" I'm afraid. I'm truly stunned at the hero worship he gets. although considering how great people thought Bradley Wright Phillips and Antonio were, two other players who was quick, ran around a bit but delivered very little then it shouldn't be a surprise.

Look at yesterday, Halford was unchallenged for most part in the centre of midfield. Without Morgan, we're actually VERY lightweight. Discuss..... The concept of "midfield hardman" disappeared about 15 years ago, along with the tackle from behind, etc. The last thing we need is some thug who can't pass getting sent off every week.

I think the two holding cm's thing can work (I think brazil might have used 2 holding cm's in the last world cup) but I think it requires a lot of discipline. At the moment I think it's a bit of a compromise cos they're (jc, dh and ms) not out and out holding mid's.

Force the wide men inside. Cut out the service to lambert. Make them play it into the cm's.

It's not all tactical though, most of our players are beyond the 3200 minutes of football this season,that's 35+ full games each,some are evn up around the 40 game mark. When you compare that to the 2200/2400 of most of the namby pambies in the PL you can see why we aren't quite as sharp now as we were in August last.We have a biggish squad but at the end of the day most of our games come down to the same 14/15 players.As we have a high intensity pass and move game fatigue is building up, Saints fit or not.Might explain why we're playing a bit more directly I suppose. Now in the theory of things Punch and Chappers should have put in a bit more of a stint than they have of late as they have relatively little game time on the counter but it just hasn't transpired that way as neither of them was even on the bench on Saturday.

He will leave Hoffineham (+sp) in the summer for sure, Swansea don't have an agreed fee....but there will be lots of suitors. Don't think there is any harm in giving it a go.

Aren't two goal scoring midfielders enough for you then? You do know part of a midfielders job is to defend as well? If we played with 4 attacking midfielder we'd lose most weeks.

As for Gylfi, no way will he be at a bottom table club next year it was a massive surprise for me he went their this season even though he wasnt really getting game time in Germany, was quality for Reading a year or so again and still class.
