Palace vs Saints - Build Up

Didnt think we were much cop against pompey TBH, we got crosses in but Sharp takes up positions Lambert usually finds, Lambert didnt look fit, Lallana was all fire and thunder but seems to take the wring option recently and is lacking a quality end product, cork flatters to decieve, Hammond seemed scared to put a tackle in.

SDR just isnt an option either for me, we need to turn it around today, my optimism is somewhat drained the past few games, still think we will go up but worried whether we will stay there, such a shame Lee is injured the boy had more dimensions to his game and gave us options.

We need a Victoria Cross-like standard of performance from someone today. Someone leading the line, bringing the others on, fire and determination in their belly, willing to do what needs to be done.

Time for Lallana to step up to the plate and stop his usual poncing about.

he certainly doesn't ponce about but looks as if he might be finding the 90 minutes a bit tough sometimes.Just this once because we're going to miss our mainstay in midfield I'd like to see us go 4-5-1 to start with with Rickie taking the first half and Sharp maybe the second.Other than that 4-4-1-1 with Rickie in the deeper role and Sharp on point.Whatever we do we just have to stop all that

route 1 that we were playing for most of the game on Saturday.

First an foremost we need to win the midfield battle and then make the ball stick upfront, so in short cork an hammond need to be a bit nastier and more expansive with their passing and Sharp needs to put in a lit better movement then he has done previous.

I thought you would understand, obv not, lets play Sharp and watch us stutter, hopefully he nicks a goal

Madness. We signed him for goals and that's what we're getting from him. He works hard and chases lost causes as well. Defenders must hate facing him and Lambert.

Works hard ? He stands on the last man and feeds off of scrap, purely one dimensional, we struggle when he plays as he isnt conducive to the way we have played all season, IMO we struggle when he plays as we lose fluidity.

When he stands on the last man, he occupies a couple of defenders and his tireless running makes a bit of space around him. Unfortunately, on Saturday, it looked to me like he was up front on his own as Lambert was on the wing most of the time. They need to play a little closer together.

I have no doubt that Sharp will learn how to play the Southampton Way over the summer but at the moment we have a 5 game season and a team that are tensing up for obvious reasons. All we need is to score more goals than the opposition for those games and I'm sure Nigel will put out the team that he thinks will do that. I don't care if it's not the same scintillating football as it was over the first part of the season - I just want us to win.

Big tactical decision looming.

Do I rush to a 3rd supermarket in a desperate attempt to find some frozen (hell even fresh) Broad Beans to go with the luverly joint of Gammon that is slowly simmering in a Cider Stock?

If I do that I'll miss the big build up. There's also a huge risk I'll have to walk past the Frozen Chicken Cabinet.

God, I wish I was Nige only worrying about the MF permutations.

You didn't watch him on Saturday then. I suspect the problem might be that he is absolutely knackered after that game. Its easy to forget sometimes that AL was diagnosed with a heart problem a few years back, I have never seen him put so much effort in as he did against the Skates.

One of the most pathetic comments I've read from alpine, besides the usual doom-mongering. Adam has bust a gut for Saints this season and is definitely not a ponce. If you want ponces, try the EPL's repetoire of wusses.

Davis. Butterfield, Fonte, Hooiveld, Fox. Chaplow, Cork, Hammond©, Lallana. Sharp, Lambert

Bit concerned that Frazer has some problem that must have flared up again on Saturday. Not confident in Butters any more I'm afraid, but he will probably give his all against his old club. Not surprised that Guly has been left out, still rate him, but he was poor on Saturday. Butters and Chaplow might work down the right, certainly better than Butters backing up Guly.

I'm thinking you know the answer to that one!

Wonder what's up with Frazer then, unless he's on the bench or we go with Bart as a sub that means that we must have yet another stand in keeper.

Think it is more tactical Butters crosses from deeper (NA mentioned it some time ago) and without a proper wide man out there may not have wanted Richardson bombing so far forward - also others mentioned Palace play wide men

nope Frazer not even on the bench, couldn't have been 100% on Saturday I guess. We're down to the bare bones.Punch must have been hoicked again.

Frazer missed a few games already with no sub GK, was beginning to think Chung was the backup, but he's out as well, so I guess it must be Lambert.

morgan is the sub keeper,or he was.

Expect it's Martin or Jos today, just a hunch hope we don't have to find out.

Bart must be really skint now as he never gets the team sheet bonus.

Oct - Nov time when we battered Brighton and Boro 3-0 and were running away with the league.

Think that 4 only played twice together as starters, in the 2 games you mentioned. We were running away with the league way before those 2 games, usually with Spiderman playing.

No sign of Puncheon. Injured or out of favour?

Thinking the same.

I was surprised when he and Falque were warming up pre-match v Doncaster the other week. From that I assumed he was still on the periphery but part of the squad. That now seems less likely to me.

I'm not going to say anything more about anything until the game starts. I really, really don't like seeing our side with Butterfield in it

though.Wouldn't be at all surprised if Zaha swops sides to profit from Butterfield's total uselessness.
