Next game coming up quickly, an Easter Monday trip to Palace. The Eagles have nothing to play for and appeared to put up absolutely no resistance to Brum today, going 3-0 very quickly and eventually losing 3-1. Their form overall has been poor too. 3 defeats in their last 4 and 1 win in their last 8.

 

Saints last away game: 3-0 defeat (Blackpool)

Palace last home game: 3-0 defeat (Forest)

 

As for the teams, Morgan will definitely miss the game. I'd personally go with:

 

Davis

 

Frazer - Fonte - Jos - Fox

 

Puncheon - Hammond - Cork - Lallana

 

Lambert - Sharp

 

 

Subs: Martin, Harding, De Ridder, Barnard, Flakey

Worth noting that the bookies think we're pretty much bang on for automatic and they're not often wrong (Never met a poor bookie!) :-)

Frankly I'm relying more on Birmigham beating West Ham than I am on us beating Palace...unless Nigel plays either Puncheon or Falque.

Good point, though it's possible we could go up without winning another game. I wonder what the odds on Reading and West Ham winning all their games are, or even 4 out of 5. Pretty bloody slim I'd bet

Anyway, nice bank holiday day out up the smoke.

Seriously, we are all disappointed about today. but we go into Easter monday 4 points above third, top of the table.

 

A big performance from players and fans and it could be a great day.

 

Sure beats some times I have had following Saints.

 

As above, I would be tempted to give punch a run out.

Sorry but man up! The selection of Falque or Puncheon, players who have won us Approx 0 of our 79 points will not be the single decisive factor in beating Palace.

I work with a Palace ST who goes to a fair few away games as well. He said to me on Thursday that they were almost going through the motions and today's result for them goes some way to back that up and if we manage an early goal, I think it will go the same way. I'm not dismissing them, but the first goal will be crutial and our 6K travelling support will also be a massive boost.

Lambert had to have a pain killing injection after the warm up today according to Dodd, think he might be rested for this one.

 

He will more than likely will be rested, and it will then be the same kind of thing for Reading. Rickie battling through.

But we haven't got the players available to rest him, if he can get through the game with an injection then he'll play.

trouble is, a half fit lambert still win 90% of the balls up to him...

 

a 100% fit july will win you 10% of the balls up to him and thus, more chance of giving the ball back to the opposition (ala blackpool)

Like others I don't want to dismiss Palace but I went to their game at home to Donny the other week (on a scouting mission) and they were dire. Just awful. No incisive play, no threatening runs, nothing. They will no doubt be fired up to beat the team top of the league, but if we do ourselves any sort of justice we should win this fairly comfortably. Anyone saying the best we can hope for is a draw is ****ing clueless.

Lets just hope and pray they don't give a shi*t.

 

Before today I figured that if we beat Pompey, drew with Palace and drew with Reading we could go into the final three with a 2 point lead over West Ham, meaning that we'd need to beat Posh and draw with Boro to safely make it to the final day in our own hands. (This is assuming West Ham win all their games).

 

Well, guess we're behind that schedule already, so we need to beat Palace straight away to get back on track.

Why does Chaplow have to be in? Talk about putting a run-of-the-mill player on a pedestal. He has trouble making the subs bench and for good reason.

As it turns out this is Saints biggest game, could not get to 80 plus points from Blackpool or pompey game so now this is the big game to win this season.

 

Going to have massive support and that will help. We should have enough to win

If Lambert is unfit I would play De Ridder there. Either that or add another midfilder like Hammond in the middle.

I would move the 3 midfielders around to, I put Chaplow there to start because he does have a good ability to make cleaver runs.

How we react to the disappointment of yesterday for tomorrows game could shape our season.

 

We need cool heads and go back to the 'keepball' game we have done so well with. I would at our CM options rather than automatically going for Hammond. Not sure if Guly should be dropped, I know he hasn't played well in the last few games, but he did score 2 against Palace at home. If Lambert is going to be rested, it's a toss-up between Guly and Barnard.

 

I'm glad I'm not Nigel.

Well if ever there was a must win game, then this could be it. Not easy atall going to Selhurst and getting anything out of it. Can see Lambert getting rested and Barnie and Sharp up front. Or Guly perhaps - for some reason he seems to get onto the teamsheet despite poor perforancees. Would start Chappers as front of a diamond and possibly Puncheon or SDR on the right. As our Nige keeps on saying, it's about the squad - well utilise it then.

 

Prediction? Not good - we're falling away now - so it's 1-1 for me.

You are right, Chaplow has been very poor since coming back from injury and was rightly subbed after half a game last time out. The trouble is that the midfield are performing so poorly, that clutching at straws in the shape of Chaplow seems almost rational.

 

Personally, I would go 451 but am pretty sure Adkins will not. Billy is the main striking threat we have at the moment and I would play a game suited to him rather than our recent offerings. The Palace game has all the signs of a loss. Our midfield just huffed and puffed themselves flat out against Pompey without acheiving much, leaving little in the tank for Palace.

We'll miss Morgan big time, but we have to win regardless. If Rickie is fit, he has to play- we can take him off if we're winning towards the end. I have confidence we can score goals through Rickie and Sharp but if we really want to give a final push we need to see some more goals, or at least attacking threat, coming from midfield.

I have a feeling Adkins will make a few changes from the derby game. He's always mentioning our 'squad' and people stepping in & being given an opportunity.

 

With this game coming so soon after the Pompey one - be prepared for a few raised eyebrows!

Like who? Our bench yesterday showed how shallow our squad is - we're unlikely to change the defense since our squad players are relatively weak; with Morgan's injury we've lost whatever cover we had in CM; and attacking wise, we only really have a mix of SDR, Punch, Chaplow and Barny -and three of those players are eyeing the same spot.
