John Boy Saint Posted 7 April, 2012 Share Posted 7 April, 2012 Nearly tore my throat out in the first half but a combination of coming down from my energy buzz and a lot of f*cking tension made me personally a lot quieter in the second half, and i'm sure it's the same for most others. I'm usually a big advocate for making as much noise as you can, but there was a lot at stake today for both teams so a bit of tension and quiet is understandable. This I thought at times it was immense too.
colehillsaint Posted 7 April, 2012 Share Posted 7 April, 2012 Me too. Went with the start of the heavy cold that's going around and my bloody throat is shattered tonight. I can properly talk without any noise coming out. Going to palace on Monday as well.

SW11_Saint Posted 7 April, 2012 Share Posted 7 April, 2012 Sh it Sh it and sh it again. Ground was like a morgue for big periods of the game. Paddy Ashclown must have thought it was fecking christmas in the second half. Fecking pathetic for a derby, some of our so called supporters need to have a word with themselves. No idea what you are talking about. Most in the pub tonight agreed it was one of the best, most intense atmospheres ever seen at SMS. Perhaps you were in the Chapel Stand? The whole situation played into their hands today. Also you haven't got the pitch proximity for the kind of player intimidation we used to do at the Dell. I think utterly s*** is very harsh. Loyal Saint Posted 7 April, 2012 Share Posted 7 April, 2012 Wasn't that bad but expected better, didn't think much of skates either. Until we have all the vocal support in one stand it will remain the same, not bad but could be better. This sets the tone as well; took my 6 yr old today and as such got in the ground quite early and had to endure the idiot with the mic getting people to jump up and down to wave and win this that and the other. Ten minutes before kick off we've still got the same tit trying to dish out a copy of fifa 12 while the knobhead on the pa is going through his 80's album collection. Its a derby you tossers, you're employed by the club to help generate an atmosphere not kill it! Saints related music as the players come out maybe, just a crazy idea! Rangers have 3 or 4 songs, penny arcade etc as they approach kick off and we have some late 90s club **** and the **** with mic announcing who's won a copy of the ps3 fifa 12 ffs! Help us out! This, and I had a stadium tour the other week (day before the Blackpool game) and he was giving it the biggun saying how we were 100% definitely going up to the PL next season, the guy is a grade A mong. SarniaSaint Posted 7 April, 2012 Share Posted 7 April, 2012 The Northam support was pathetic. They had their moments, but not good enough for a supposed home HALF end. The itchen was good especially in the first half. Corrected it for ya
warsash saint Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 What do you expect if you sit in the Chapel ?? Block 2 was bloody noisy apart from 20 mins at start of 2nd half which as someone has already posted could be put down to nerves. My ears are still ringing now !! Yep...wasn't really setting the tone The music choices were awful .......but then I reckon that was a ploy to keep the atmosphere down by the club. I mean I brought my kids a bottle of drink each and had the lids removed so I couldn't use them as a missile against the pompey fans fair enough ..........except I sit at the top of the chapel Edited 8 April, 2012 by doddisalegend
sotonjoe Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 I dared to criticise our home support a few weeks back and got the usual bunch of idiotic and erroneous responses. FWIW I thought we were disappointing yesterday, and it was particularly noticeable in the 2nd half when Pompey were on top. And yes, I was doing my bit. My throat is killing me and I couldn't talk when I got home last night.
Sour Mash Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 The support went quiet at the point when it was most needed, that 20 minute period in the 2nd half. I almost don't mind so much people not singing in the Chapel, but when large amounts of fans in block 42 can't be @rsed you've got to wonder a bit. Having said that, at certain points it was very loud, but then it's easy when you've gone a goal up.

supersonic Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 I was sat in the Chappel and I totally agree. We were brilliant UNTIL Pompey equalised (1st time) then it was silent until half time. I could hear the Pompey fans more than I could the Saints fans. Is it a coincidence that up until Pompey scored and the crowd was loud, we were the better team, but in the 2nd half and the crowd was mostly silent, we didn't play to well? mitch01 Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 I was sat in block 37 and it was very loud apart from around 20 minutes in the second half when everyone was getting very frustrated with the game moving away from us. Golden Balls Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 I thought it was awesome. I noticed that different parts of the ground kept singing different songs. All a bit too keen and this had a negative affect. First time I've ever really heard Pompey at our place. They were loud just after half time and again after their 2nd goal. When we went 2-1 up, I've never seen SMS bounce and rock so much. The whole place was going mental for the few minutes before that goal.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 St Marys was sure loud enough when Sharp's 2nd went it, but overall I too must say the occasion lacked a certain something compared to other recent times this fixture has been played - the 2004/5 season FA Cup game for instance. Blame the bubble for reducing everyones adrenaline levels a tad perhaps ?
Colinjb Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 Have to say that I and many people around me wanted a win yesterday so much that the nerves got to us. I am usually one of the loudest people in my part of the family end (yes, that sanctuary for the vocal....) but I could barely raise a cheer I was so tense. Only when the goals were scored or we have some clear chances paried did I respond.... and when it happened it was almost involuntary outbursts of emotion. The celebrations for the second goal showed that the spirit and determination of the fans was there but the occasion and what it meant for our season as a whole served to be self stiffling. I've no idea, I just know how I felt. I had not felt so nervous at a game since the start of the JPT final. It was quite paralysing. As I say, different people react in different ways. Having been to some of the clubs you've mentioned, I strongly suspect that they have elements of support who react in the same way. Besides, I sit in the family end, maybe the mass swell of atmosphere in the Northam would have compelled me to react in a better way to the game. Group mentality and all that. Plumstead_Saint Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 Well on the radio it really sounded like we only sing when we're winning. Don't know if they had the mics near the skate fans [why woudl they do that?] but you heard them a lot. Only been to away games this season and I'd say we sing up pretty good then - I'll bet you can hear us on the radio tomorrow ;-)

View From The Top Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 It certainly wasn't quiet where I was. For 90mins we screamed, shouted, abused, supported, sang and booed. I was so keyed up I thought I was going to puke and my hands were shaking like leaves in a hurricane. My nipper was even stood on his seat and this in The Chapel. Where I was it was better than the cup game BUT it was noticeable that we couldn't hear the Northam, but neither could we really hear the Itchen nor the skates. I really cannot remember being so keyed up for a game since being a nipper. My 10yo cried when we scored and broke his heart at the final whistle and has a hoarse voice of spending 90mins shouting his head off.

Wer I was it was very loud most of the game, but 4 sum of tve second half b4 we scored wen we wernt playing great, u could feel the tension and then the sheer disappointment that followed the elation between the two late goals! I enjoyed the atmosphere and wen Billy scored b4 the two equalisers the place was bouncing! Also hard wen our two main sets of singers are broken up by 3k+ away fans with nothing to loose! Would be so much better if we had the whole of the Northam and gave them a corner or part of the side! Anyway hope my voice recovers for palace and then again for Friday! COYR!!!!! So the stakes are higher for us playing for promotion to the premier league than winning the premier league title or the champions league? Okay then. cambsaint Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 You really can't expect all fans to chant. Do you really think that 40yo+ fans are going to sing very much? rocknrollman no2 Posted 8 April, 2012 Share Posted 8 April, 2012 I was right against the Skate fans in block 42 and believe me it was very passionate. I was pushed over when we first scored and after that when Sharpes 2nd goal was given,i was again pushed towards the Skate fans, knocking serveral policemen over in the process.Luckily no one was hurt, although my legs are bruised and ive lost my voice! But it did go quiet after THAT goal at the end,but thats to be expected when we thought we had won.
