Recommended Posts

St Fairies full to the rafters, Electric atmosphere all sides of the ground baying for blood, revenge,N bragging rites,90 odd Min's of no quarters given football, 4 classy goals, 350 odd posts on a reaction thread,,,,,These derby games ain't up to much, Are they?

Few bed wetters crowing (top should beat bottom) Wrong, we are only there because of a 10 point deduction, plus all logic goes out the window on derby games,

The big loss is thats the last of these games for a good few seasons,

When you get promoted back to the Prem com May (well you feckin should be) You need to get rid of Adkins, Not good enuff.

ps You don't need our GK we are more shocked than you that he saved them shots,

So, you want Adkins for yourselves then? Nope! We won't fall for that one. Nice try though. ;)

Truely sickening ending, I dont think I've been so down since Bent smacked that one in after Crouch should have headed for the corner.

It was a typical Derby, passionate and 100 miles an hour. They battled and battled, but to be fair I thought we stood up for ourselves and matched them. Couple of unbelivable hits from them, together with 2 pretty decent saves won the game for them. Dont understand why Lallana tried to go round the keeper, and then made a fool of himself with that dive. Lucky not to get booked. Had it been Guly, some posters would be in melt down.

Have to win Monday, simple as that. They have nothing to play for and we need to put the pressure on West Ham. Birmingham's a tough game, that'll be made tougher if they're 7 points off us.

We need to regroup and go again. We're top of the League, with a 4 point cushion. A position every single one of us would have taken in Aug. Palace is a very winnable game, then lets see how the table looks comes Weds morning.

Great atmosphere - dreadful referee - loss of MS was huge - very poor midfield especially in second half - what was point of bringing SDR on and then ignoring him? Two wonder goals by Pompey - wonder saves by their keeper - overall disappointing result but could have been worse. Let's hope we buck ouir ideas up before tomorrow.

Indeed. Any most would have take a playoff spot too. Which is now guaranteed. The simple fact is that Saints final league position, whatever that may end up being, has exceeded the pre-season expectations of the majority of fans.

The funny thing is that I was resigned to a draw with five minutes to go - just hopeful that they didn't snatch a late winner.

I was thinking exactly the same in the cold light of day this morning.

At 1-1 I had convinced my self they were going to snatch a late winner and was praying that we could keep it level.

So, in that context, a draw is exactly what I was hoping for with 10 minutes to go. (or, rather, I was more hoping that we didn't concede than hoping we scored....if that makes any sense)

Puts the eventual score into perspective (ish)

Well, what did we learn?

1) We can't defend. Take nothing away from the 2 shots that Pompey scored from, they were decent strikes, but BOTH were poorly defended. Richardson/Guly were at fault for not marking and tracking opponents for the first. And whoever didn't mark Norris. That's 5 poor goals we've conceded in a week.

2) We can't have 2 luxury players. Either Lallana, or Guly, not both. I'm not getting into the Guly argument

3) For those of us that talk about West Ham hoofing the ball all the time, it's all we seem to do. What happened to our slick passing football of the early season. Only saw it in glimpses over past few weeks. Most of the time it's just hoofing.

4) Our fans went deadly silent after their first equaliser, and stayed quite until HT.

5) I think we will struggle to hold onto the automatic promotion places. With Morgan's nasty looking injury, and the psychological blow of not holding on to a win after the Blackpool result.

Also, I'd like to say, fair play to Portsmouth and Appleton, they defended well, and played well. I've certainly seen a lot worse teams this season. Appleton clearly is a good coach, but isn't helped by their embarrassing off-field situation.

And...why did we not bring on Martin instead of Harding? Surely NA knew they'd be pumping balls into our box, Martin would have been a better choice to deal with them than Harding, who didn't really have a position

Agree with most of that, apart form the "fair play Pompey" bit and putting on Martin, neither he nor Harding should have came on. The whole thing about us playing great passing football has been out of the window since January I'd say, maybe to counteract teams working out to play us and squeezing our build up play. Loads of wasted hoofs yesterday. Edited by Sour Mash

Having just seen the highlights, I'm even more ****ed off at the shambolic defending for the 2 goals.

Really?? You can't give a bit of credit for two unbelievable strikes?? If you're beaten from 20 yards on the volley with the ball coming down with snow on, fair play. De Ridder was closest to Norris, he could just as easily have charged in, fouled him and then they score from the free kick...

They were freak goals but it did annoy me seeing Guly jogging back for their first. I used to play right back and a pet hate of mine is midfielders that don't do their job and track back. he had too much time to make the strike IMO.

And for the second, at that stage in the game Norris should have had some one in his face.

We can defend, that's a bit of a silly statement to make. I believe we have the 2nd best defensive record in the league, but yesterday - we were sloppy. We did give Norris too much space and that was inexcusable at the time, but it doesn't mean we can't defend.

At this stage of the season you just need to get results and that goes for both teams, they're not going to let us get the ball down and take the micky as we were able to do earlier in the season. Team's have sussed us out to a degree, but having the option of Lambert up front makes us unpredictable - and if you want to win games, sometimes you just need to take a touch and lift it - get lambo knocking it down and players in and around. This stage of the season isn't about being pretty, it's about getting the results.

I think the fans were just nervous, there was alot of nervous tension in the air. It was a big game in terms of promotion for us and it was on edge for quite a long time - I don't think we ever had total control and they kept having these scary break aways every now and then.

Let's see how we feel this time tomorrow, there are alot of games to be played in 14 days and believe me - so much will change. How it looks now will not be how it looks in 14 days time, we will all drop points but it's about who has the mental resolve to get over that line. Reading look to be well pumped up for this and they do not want to end up in the playoffs again, we have the recent experience of last year and alot of players that would dream of playing in the premier league (and may never get the chance again). WHU are in the dodgiest territory. They are expected to win, they are currently in the worst position. Their home form has been poor because their fans expect too much too soon (that won't change either), they have more home games left than either of us - that IMO will be pivotal

It may not be decided until the last day, but as long as we're still there on the final day of the season with it in our hands - then we'll do it. Just believe.

Lot of truth on this article. Our defenders and midfielder win an awful lot of headers, some under pressure, some with no pressure whatsoever, but they hardly ever try to direct their headers to other Saints players. They just seem to head the ball away not really caring who picks it up. It is a big weakness in our defensive play which could easily be rectified.

The point is looking non too shabby now, unless you are a Skate! 9 points MIND THE GAP

On a similar thought, the "rule of thumb" in the Championship is 50 points to stay up. So they only need another 16 from their last 5 games.
