Saints V pompey Match Thread!

SOTONS EAST SIDE

Recommended Posts

OK first half, looked nervy at the start, bit scrappy in front of goal but hopeful we can bundle another one of them in. Don't like blaming Guly but he was nowhere near his man when Maguire scored.

We have to close down for the entire 90 minutes or we will be punished. Guly was... casual

Bloody hell we look nervous. The goal helped settle things down before the wonder strike from McGuire. The blue few are pressuring every pass, and with any luck their fitness won't last beyond the 70 minute giving us time to hopefully ice a cake.

They wont need fitness in the last 20 - adrenalin alone will get them through in a game like this. If we go into the last 15 - 10 minutes all square, I think it will actually favour them.

Gotta ask questions about the marking for their goal. had time to call for the ball, do the wavy arm thing and receive it still without a Saints player in sight. Then he ambles to the edge of the area and hits one in the postage stamp with no Saints player putting in a challenge or closing to within 2 yards. Meanwhile, Guly, who I reckon is supposed to be covering that area, is gently jogging back about 4 yards away. ****ing terrible.

Nope, we dont like it when teams get in our faces - we need that extra second or two to play our pretty passing game - but we're not going to get that here. Time to roll up the sleeves and go to work. Couldnt give a toss how we win - the score is not important - the 3 points are vital.

I'm not one of the Guly bashers normally, but Christ alive he was nowhere near McGuire when he scored. A great strike yes, but he had all the time and space in the world. Terrible tracking back.

I'll stay possitive though, we looked the better side and I'd be surprised if the Skates can keep up that tempo for 90 minutes. I'm not saying it will be easier, but hopefully we can calm down, start passing and get them on the ropes. I'd bring on De Ridder for Guly, who has done very little in the first half. Maybe not straight away but after 60 minutes or so.

That was a good shot to equalise but a bit too much room. It's all a bit rushed and tense and I think we're being dragged down to their level. guly and lallana both good chances and even Lambert's free kick was a decent chance, Hoiveld has been close with a couple more. I don't think some of their players are too worried if they get an injury which means they have to return to their loaning clubs whereas Saints are trying to avoid being crippled for the run-in. Shame about Morgan as I thought he'd calm us down a bit but Cork has been playing well.

The combination of fizzy beer, shouting and hyper-ventilation is building up towards some classic burps later on!

Good grief.....

I am happy that I chose to avoid this thread and just concentrate on watching the game.

What a miserable load of doom and gloomers most of you are!

We will win!!

We will not concede another goal!!!

COME ON YOU SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Err think if anyone it was Kelvin more to blame here, getting beaten at his near post from a fine angle. Persevere with Guly as he is due to score 2nd half!

thought it was pretty poor keeping myself but a bit of closing down might have helped.Cork or Hammond should have been there.

Looks to me like Lambert is back a week early, but then again he's always a danger and only takes him 1 second to change a game. Saints need to play the game and not the occasion, they should be able to wear pompy down and get a goal later on.

not much he can do if we dont give him enough ball it will open up 2nd half as the sides tire!
