Anyone know why you're not allowed to bring certain Duty Free goods within the UK? I flew from Southampton to Edinburgh and back recently and wasn't allowed to buy any tobacco products which is a bit weird.

King Alec has not got his wish just yet.....Edinburgh are a city within the UK

Pretty much off the major bus routes though tbf.

Taxi fare is a bit steep as well, with a round trip of 11,800 miles. Unless you have your own nuclear submarine...

You should save your money on tobacco and spend it on a map.

To give myself a bit of a let-off here i'm not exactly sure how the duty free system works tbh. Having never purchased anything from there before I was unaware of the rules!

Duty free is applicable when flying outside the EU. You have less in allowances than tax free. Tobacco and spirits are classed as duty items.

Tax free prices is where the retailer pays for the VAT on behalf of the customer so prices are cheaper than the high street (well mostly) otherwise there wouldn't be so many shops at the entry ports. If you buy while visiting an EU country then you pay the tax at source and there is still an allowance on goods, but a generous one.
