david in sweden Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 .a couple of sport sites have quoted an interest from saints to sign Matthew Upson in the summer. OK I can hear the " critics " now He's 32 and can't get a regular spot at Stoke, but the man has 21 England caps to his credit , and even for a couple of years would be very useful addition to the squad when /if we are in the Prem.

Window Cleaner Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Seriously doubt NA/Cortese will be discussing their summer first team targets until they know which league we're in. Why not Blackpool are already selling STs.And very fairly priced they are too.
ottery st mary Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 (edited) How many games has he played this season? Very few......Worries me when a player is 32/33 and missing so many games.. He may turn out to be a blinding signing..but a big punt when he is on..at a guess £30, 000 a week and still a couple of years on his contract...maybe why such a small fee mentioned...Stoke want to off load? Never a great turn of pace and struggled when called in by Stoke... If true NA/staff have confidence in his fitness and a big pre season to make our team...... For me Jos , Fonte , Martin withthe addition of Jack Hobbs from Hull and one other .... Edited 4 April, 2012 by ottery st mary spellin
Matthew Le God Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Seriously doubt NA/Cortese will be discussing their summer first team targets until they know which league we're in. The Mirror article say it is regardless of which division we are in.
Saint Garrett Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 He was on about 60k a week at WHU last season. Also one of the main reasons why they went down. Absolute NO from me.
Wade Garrett Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 He's 32 and can't get a regular spot at Stoke.
david in sweden Posted 4 April, 2012 Author Posted 4 April, 2012 He's 32 and can't get a regular spot at Stoke. with Stoke's poor defensive record, maybe they should have tried him before now ...?
Micky Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 The fact that he has 32 England caps is old money, new money is that he is about as cost effective as Keiron Dyer - that'll be a no from me then.
(not THE) Kevin Moore Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 He's too 'english' by which I mean, not comfortable in possession and not cultured. Good ball winner but I don't think he looks good value.
Katalinic Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Seriously doubt NA/Cortese will be discussing their summer first team targets until they know which league we're in. I would imagine preparations are in full swing and have been for some time particularly if we want to take advantage of the out of contract players - there will be targets based on the two scenarios.
Barry the Badger Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Why not Blackpool are already selling STs.And very fairly priced they are too. IF we do it, the very second promotion is confirmed a whole world of new transfer possibilities would open up.
Rasiak-9- Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 He's too slow. Don't make the same mistake Derby did by just buying big bully type centre-halves. We've already got two of them. What we need is a younger, faster, ball-playing athlete of a defender - Curtis Davies maybe? Someone in the Rio Ferdinand mould (although obviously not necessarily as good as that). But yeah. Whilst Jose and Jos can both deal with c/ship thugs up front easily enough I wouldn't like watching Hernandez/Nani/Bale/Lennon or whoever running at them with pace.
Saint Garrett Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Exactly agree....We got a taste of that on Saturday what happens when teams attack us with pace!!
david in sweden Posted 5 April, 2012 Author Posted 5 April, 2012 Not sure there's a defender in the premier league who can deal with those players very well to be honest. which is the main reason that the teams that own those players are where they are in the Premiership ...and the other teams aren't !
