ChudSaint Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Ok, obviously if Rickie plays this question becomes null and void but what happens if he doesn't? Does Billy have another go and see his confidence rocket when he bangs it in or has the batten been passed on? Who fills you with the confidence to bang in that last minute winner when the scores are tied and the ref points to the spot??? I'm going Danny Fox, dunno why cos I'll be bricking it whichever way but he's known to hit a good dead ball and what better time to see it than from 12 yards away on Saturday...
Saint_Jonny Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Billy. You can be sure hes been practising burying them in the corners all week.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Billy. You can be sure hes been practising burying them in the corners all week. Nope, practising doesn't count for very much at all,it's match conditions that count.Depends if we're ahead or not. If Rickie isn't on the pitch and we're 0-0 or worse it will be Fox or Morgan. If we're 2 up it will be Billy.
Dig Dig Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Whoever is the most confident and prepared to have a go.
dronskisaint Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Fox..got a sweet left foot and doesn't seem to do nerves Wouldn't be unhappy if Sharp stepped up though...think he's got that one out of his system
Window Cleaner Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Whoever is the most confident and prepared to have a go. That will be decided before and by the coaching staff though.
WHITEE1987 Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Morgan all the way! Hes got a hell of a boot on him and not bad accuracy. He would bury it in the net. Much respect to Rickie but i think he just hammers it and hopes lol!
Turkish Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 What about if Nige suddenly picks up a bought of gastric flu and cant pick the team or be on the touchline on saturday? WHo do we want to lead the team? Of course if it doesn't happen then this post is totally pointless but it might, if so who should we have in charge?
Turkish Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Fox He'd give the goalkeeper the eyes and outfox him. FACT
Window Cleaner Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Morgan all the way! Hes got a hell of a boot on him and not bad accuracy. He would bury it in the net. Much respect to Rickie but i think he just hammers it and hopes lol! Probably the only Saint to have scored 3 penalties in "international" matches. Takes nice free kicks as well but doesn't ever get the nod for us, the pecking order seems to be Rickie,Foxy,Morgan,Guly.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 He'd give the goalkeeper the eyes and outfox him. FACT Just needs to show the keeper his tattoos.
mcjwills Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 King Kelv No No No and No, because god forbid he missed the ball would still be in play and he would be out of position and a lucky log lobbed ball could be scored against us.
Turkish Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Just needs to show the keeper his tattoos. That would be a cunning tactic.
Lighthouse Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Think Barnard used to take them for Saaaafend. Him, Sharp or Fox would get my vote. Not Morgan though, I don't trust a player who takes 3 shots every season to score a penalty.
saint.tom.clancy Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Sharp or Fox. Perfect time for Sharp to make up for his dreadful one last week. Of course all this doesn't matter and lambert will be fit anyway.
ottery st mary Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 :rolleyes:Morgan can shoot...you are having a larf mate....No chance.. His overall game has improved..having said that he was not at the donkey races against Blackpool.. But let him take a penalty..Noooooooooo way.. If no Rikeeee..then Billy Sharp.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 (edited) Like Jason Dodd? Or David Peach, great penalty taker, preferred to Channon,Holmes,Osgood and McCalliog. Accuracy is paramount, which is why Billy didn't score on Saturday. If you're going where he did you've got to get it inside the post otherwise it's a gimme for the keepr. He was about a yard shy so that's inaccurate. Some place, some blast but to score you've got to put it where you want it to be not a full yard away. Colinjb Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Sharp's biggest problem is that if he steps up to take one, every saints fan in that ground will expect him to miss. I like to call that the 'pass back to Kelvin Davis' reaction.
Thedelldays Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 billy sharp... fecking hell, what a bunch of fannies...he missed. move on
Lighthouse Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Like Jason Dodd? Dodd was seldom in a possition to shoot. Morgan is but rarely has a go.
Appy Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Think Barnard used to take them for Saaaafend. Him, Sharp or Fox would get my vote. Not Morgan though, I don't trust a player who takes 3 shots every season to score a penalty. To be fair, 2 goals from 3 shots isn't bad. Sharp should take it.
Benali Saint Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Lallana Think he scored in both shoot outs in our JPT run
ulstersaint Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 King Kelv No way - a good number of his kicks go for throw-ins!
SNSUN Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Billy Sharp for sure. The confidence dent of a missed penalty would be negated by the confidence boost of a scored one. Miss the next one, then I'd think about replacing him...
terry hurlock Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Fox all day long. He's accurate and can probably hit a ball just as quick as Rickie. Helps an awful lot if the ball is past the gk before he even gets near it!
Tamesaint Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Lallana Think he scored in both shoot outs in our JPT run plus 1
simo Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Sharp anyone saying otherwise knows nothing about man management
Thedelldays Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Anyway, the real key isn't who is the best striker of the ball, it's who wants to be a hero by scoring against pompey. The players that relish taking pens and just see a great opportunity to score are always better pen takers. I hate seeing players not look confident taking on. They're rich professionals and it's a free shot in front of goal. As MLT said, it's simple! he did...he always says that you are a professional footballer with a free shot at goal from 12 years....getting it on target is the bare minimum has charlies adams penalty landed yet..?
scotty Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Lets hope it doesn't come down to a last-gasp penalty is all I can say. Hopefully we'll be out of sight by then. Excuse me, just off down the garden, those chickens definitely need counting.
Huffton Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Sharp's biggest problem is that if he steps up to take one, every saints fan in that ground will expect him to miss. Err, why exactly? Do Chelsea fans expect Lampard to miss every time he steps up?
dan17 Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Morgan all the way! Hes got a hell of a boot on him and not bad accuracy. He would bury it in the net. Much respect to Rickie but i think he just hammers it and hopes lol! Eh? Really?.......
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Billy definitely. Was Donny's penalty taker, missed some there but scored plenty of them too. He'll bounce back & he'll score the next one if Rickie's not available, IMO.
SW11_Saint Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 Sharp. If not Fox, Richardson or Morgan. Funny so few have mentioned Lallana. Not sure I'd trust him to take one under pressure either strangely.
Red Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 billy sharp... fecking hell, what a bunch of fannies...he missed. move on Agreed - except technically it was saved and not "missed" - i.e. was on target and keeper saved, better than being off target IMO. BS will come good and we need to stick with him. Would you call for RL to be dropped if he missed the next one?? **** happens to the best (at times).
Saint_DB Posted 4 April, 2012 Posted 4 April, 2012 he did...he always says that you are a professional footballer with a free shot at goal from 12 years....getting it on target is the bare minimum must be one hell of a stutter in the run-up!
svetigpung Posted 5 April, 2012 Posted 5 April, 2012 Reckon Guly is pretty cool in a pen situation I mean he is practically in a coma during most matches We all know he will start, as per usual
paulwantsapint Posted 5 April, 2012 Posted 5 April, 2012 Lallana imho would be a pen placer the best MLT Rickie have the ball on the way back out of the net before the keeper has even landed Sharp didn't miss had the keeper dived the other way BS would have scored a modern pen ( no risk of missing target )
skintsaint Posted 5 April, 2012 Posted 5 April, 2012 Sharp to take it. Every player misses one every now and again. Yes his pen wasn't as accurate as it should of been but it was on target but unfortunately the keeper chose the right way, I get more annoyed at ones that miss the goal completely. Incidentally Sharps pen miss was a carbon copy of MLT's miss against Crossley..I wonder if a thread about MLT taking the next one would of appeared after that?...
Professor Posted 5 April, 2012 Posted 5 April, 2012 Has anyone suggested Davis? Must have more experience of penalties than anyone bar Rickie.
LatvianTolix Posted 5 April, 2012 Posted 5 April, 2012 I was really surprised Lallana was not stepping in to take it against Blackpool! He is confident and is not nerveous. He should be shooting those penalties if Lambo is out.
