solentstars Posted 5 April, 2012 Share Posted 5 April, 2012 I went to glen eyre in the 70's, which was pretty wild most of the time. Glen eyre was big on corporal punishment, caning, slapping, trainer-ing - courtesy of the PE dept - and various other forms of kid abuse. The corporal punishment had zero impact on how we all behaved as far as I can remember. You name it, it went on there - and we got caught and caned for it. It was probably more brutalising than corrective in its impact. I certainly wouldn't hit my kids That teacher was not Mr reed by any chance always thought he was a perv who got of on useing the slipper Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
SNSUN Posted 5 April, 2012 Share Posted 5 April, 2012 A teacher caning anyone nowadays would probably end up dead by the hand of his pupil. As for punishing kids, I don't have any yet, but as they're my kids, I'd like to be able to slap them if they were naughty, as my parents did to me. In fact it was my mum that dished out the punishments, using a slipper or flip flop. My dad rarely punished my sister or I, but just the threat of a spanking from him was enough to respect him - he was only called in to do it by my mother if we were REALLY naughty, like the time I spat soup into my sister's face. It was an accident.
suewhistle Posted 5 April, 2012 Share Posted 5 April, 2012 As a teacher I would consider violence against a pupil a bit of a failure, but I reserve the right to defend myself. You wouldn't do, even to an immature child, what you wouldn't do to an adult. If you did anything to an adult it would be costrued as an assault, so why should it be permitted to a child? The only time I've made physical contact with a child was during a summer school with a French group where, during the crowded end of course disco I found a kid crouched down trying to set light to a varnished gym bench.I didn't make full contact with his head to stop him: more like a gentle stroke across his head, but in the circumstances I'd do it again. An adult I'd probably have made full contact....
