What's all this about Wigan and us?

Call me stupid but why do we all want to go to Wigan so much? I know we've never played them before but is that it?

We've never played at Wigan but we did play them in the Cup in 86 (or so I think) Remember going to the game at the Dell,

commuted from Mons for virtually every home game that season.

Generally funny if Wigan stay up. Low support, little money and no hope, yet they usually put a run together. Good luck to them. Have a feeling Martinez is a fantastic manager at a very limited club. Keeping them up last year was an amazing achievement, if he does it this year too he really deserves a better job.

Sounds a lot like Saints for the whole of the 90's....

Yep, that's it for me. I've never been. Though I have been past their ground about 20 times between Manchester and Southport on the train.

I wouldn't mind them going down if we just got them in a Cup.

Looking at their remaining matches it's pretty difficult to see exactly where they might get points in April, still if none of the other

bottom 5/6 get any much in April the games in May against Blackburn and Wolves might help them out.

If we are both in the same league next year, you can almost guarantee we'll draw them in the League Cup away from home.

What, never ? In the 80 years since they formed ?

We played them once in the FA Cup in '86 at The Dell.

I was shocked at that as well but was soon reminded that they only entered the FL in '76 (I think) after being non-league and were stuck in the lower leagues until they reached the Prem, the year we dropped out of it.

Why? Skillful, but way too greedy or lacking in vision to bring others into play.

He's lost his way a bit, he was a huge prospect at Palace. I think in our team he'd be one we could get the best out and would offer us the pace out wide we've been lacking this season.

I want them to go down so we can sign Victor Moses to play down the right of midfield.

The first time I saw him play was for England U19s against 8elarus here in Minsk. The England team was captained by our own Jack Cork and included other players like Danny Welbeck, Ryan Bertrand and Daniel Sturridge.

Victor Moses was by far Englands best player that day, despite the 0-0 scoreline.

I would be very happy if we signed him.

I'd probably do Wigan (a) as I like to turn up at a game and pay on the turnstile, but apart from that it's hardly appealing to play at a 3/4 empty subuteo stadium in a bleak northern town.

Subbuteo don't make curved roof stands.

HTH.

I can think of nothing worse.
Of course, you're correct, fish with gravy doesn't go. Should be a meat and potato pie or a steak and kidney pudding to go with that, load on a load of mushy peas as well. Sheff Weds have that in the ground for a couple of quid.

I think they must have the League record for most attempts to win promotion. Although I can't pinpoint the exact seasons, I think they went out in the play-offs about 3 times before getting out of L1, then had a similar fate for a couple of seasons in a row in CCC before getting up to the Prem.
