First signing of the summer?

Upson is lower down the xmas card list than avram for most west ham fans, a billy big b*****ks whose pace and talent deserted him years ago.

Am openminded; but nothing I've seen him suggests he's would fit into our current setup or direction. Experience at the back can be a useful asset; but our greater defensive need is additional pace.

I don't see this fitting in with our current transfer policy, although I would think that we will try to bring in some Prem experience, if we see this through & go up.

Not to sure on Upson, but maybe he could replace the experience that we will lose from Jaidi who will surely depart this season.

But I would have thought he'd be looking to play regularly wherever he goes, I'm not to sure he's much better than Fonte & Jos.

would be a crap signing...that old cart horse lost his legs a few years ago and is now looking for another mug to pay his over inflated wages...let's hope it's not Saints...

Someone like Curtis Davies fits the bill...young, quick and can build with the team

Seems unlikely, usual Sun rubbish putting 2 and 2 together and making 5. I doubt that Adkins has made much headway in identifying players, since he tends to focus on one game at a time. Upson was identified as a short term loan thats all.

I noticed yesterday (getting away from CBs) that George Boyd has turned down new contract at Posh and is on the transfer list. I thought last season he would be a good signing, still do.

What about the cream of young Championship talent who won't be going up should we get promoted?

We've been linked with Neil Danns and Nathaniel Clyne before and both fit the sort of signings we make.

Danns is neither very young nor very talented, we passed on him last time,no doubt we'll do it again.

Indeed, I wouldn't take Danns now. Clyne would be idea.

Add Snodgrass/Zaha to that list too for the signings we should be looking to make.

£500.000 for a 32 year old on high salary demands who can't force himself into the first team in the PL? If that was to happen we would have changed what appears to be a clear recruitment policy of young and eager talent able to be part of a team. That wouldn't exclude some PL experience necessarily, but Upson is not it.

Am unsure about Guly, so another pacy striker alongside lambert, lee and sharp would be good.

Don't think Barnard is in Adkin's long term plans, a centre back with pace, a winger, another box to box midfielder to replace Hammond and perhaps a right back to compete with Fraser.

Stephens too young and butterfield isn't going to cut it..

All in my opinion of course but would be happy with this.

A striker

Central midfielder

Winger

Centre back

Right back.

Out:

Barnard

Connolly

Seaborne

Holmes

Forte

Hammond

Butterfield

I'd rather do what Swansea and Norwich have done if we go up. Keep the majority of the squad and add some top championship players - eg J Rod and Whittingham. Not clear out the promotion squad and fill it up with premiership has beens like Upson - much like QPR have.

hammond is not going to be sold...ffs

Why are you so sure? He is already down the pecking order and should we go up we could well strengthen there.

Cork and MS could probably do it in the Prem.. Im unsure on Hammond. He's hardly set the world alight this season.

Agreed there, he's not first choice any more and imagine we would bring in another centre midfielder to rotate with MS and Cork.

He's been pretty decent for Leicester in the past few months - not sure his DJing etc is necessarily in line with our recruitment policy but I think he'd be a decent add.

I'd take an arm off for Snodgrass, wonder if we'd be interested in Danny Guthrie who must want a chance to start regularly, would love us to sign Matt Jarvis and wonder who else we've got our eye on from the relegated sides if we go up. Shame Hoilett's all but taken... based on previous seasons we'll be in for 20-27 year olds with experience in the Prem or who have excelled at our previous level.

Am hopeful on Stephens but you can't expect him to be a ready fully fledged right back alongside Frazier next season, the way we bring youth through at this club is a tried, tested and most importantly successful process.

We should stick to it.

Another rightback for that second slot please.

It doesn't seem to have stopped us chucking Bale, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain into the first team as 16 year olds, and Stephens already had League One experience before we signed him. Not sure why he wouldn't be ready, maybe he'll get a game against Coventry if we're not playing for anything...

Would like to see him for the Coventry game if all has been decided by then.

but the PL is something completely different.Think we'll be needing to look at new full backs on both sides for next season.Don't see why we can't the push Fox forward to LM and play Adam on the right.

Interesting but you'll lose the industry lallana provides on the left, whilst Chaplow before injury showed he can be dynamite on the right.

Deridder is also there, whilst Guly on his day playing on the right does help the team play nice one touch triangle football..

Fox has a wicked delivery on him but lacks the technique in beating players.

Just makes you think, what if lallana had real pace, the boy would be a world beater!

I watch a lot of PL football and I'm sorry to say that in my personal opinion at least half of our players won't be good enough for the PL.To me only Morgan,Cork,Adam and Lambert will definitely be able to adapt,José and Jos are possibles but I see them getting torn apart by the Chicharitos,Cissés and Rooneys. Everybody says look at Swansea, look at Norwich but they've both strengthened in key areas, notably Swansea,Vorm,Caulker,Routlege,Graham and Sigurdsson weren't with them last season I think. That's at least 5 starters out of 11.

Why do you think he won't be? Has been slipping down the pecking order since the start of this season....from captain to occasional starter/last 20 min sub. Wouldn't be surprised if he was sold.

I would be hopeful of the following doing a job:

Davis: is a confidence player and when it's low, coming for the ball can be a horror show. Usually, (as of recent times) he is a great stopper with reflex saves. Great stuff.

Fonte and jos: I have no worries. Fonte is an all rounder and jos is consistent and reads game very well.

Treating last game, 3rd goal in isolation, even with the lack of pace, his positioning compensates for this.

Fox: has come on a great deal and a few of his recent games, he has shored up his positional play AND added some aggression to his game, I thought he was fantastic against Donny. What a beautiful crosser of the ball too.

Morgan: one of our 3 most important players, alongside adam and Rickie.

Cork, has it all, needs to progress but won't just make it, will be a top English central midfielder.

Lallana: will play for England

Rickie: the best target man in the English game.

Lee: Brett ormerod with skill and a shot. Top class striker, as I'm hoping we will come to find...

So,

Davis

Jos

Fonte

Fox

Morgan

Cork

Lallana

Rickie

Lee.

My premier league stars in waiting.

Although I used to really rate Upson I'm no longer anywhere near as convinced. The World Cup hurt him IMO.

However, is it my imagination or has Fonte not really been the same player for the last couple of months?

He was a shadow of his former self against Blackpool and made a succession of errors. Still, the same could be said for many others but he seemed to escape the post-game criticism for some reason.

Swansea still use Gary Monk. Player that could never get in our team. Problem is that yes Jos/Jose may get "torn apart" by some strikers in Top 4 clubs, but there are 15 other teams in the PL (besides us and Top 4) who have strikers who are really no better than the NPC. I don't think we will plan to be Top 4 PL next season (that would be the season after) as long as we have players who can consolidate in the PL and be supplemented by a few new ones that will do fine. Fox and Richardson will be OK in the PL to start with, as will Chung and Kelvin. So the spine of the team will be similar to current, but we do need some pace RM, perhaps Walcott will come back (kidding).

Monk was awful on Sunday, cost them the match, which is why he's been replaced by Caulker most of the time.
