Any news on Lambert?

Worth risking him? Would rather he was on the bench Saturday and there if needed or for the last 15 if its going OK and make sure he's fit for Monday, potentially a tougher game.

Im confident we'll win without him. My bet would be he wont start Saturday.

Hypo yes I have considerd the players performance. but we do have a habit on here of criticising players even when we are winning week in week out. I like Guly he is a skillfull player I wished he would find the net a bit more frequently. but I am not going to chastise him Billy or any player just becuase it seems a cool thing to do. The coaching squad rate them other wise they wouldnt select them.

Do we know how richardson and connolly are and how far they are away from returning to the squad.

Unfortunately it is the way with some posters, we have had scape goats for some years, Matt Oakley used to get a lot of stick, some people have a problem with Spiderman, and the Guly is lazy crap that some people come up with is really annoying. To me, in most of these cases it illustrates that some people who call themselves football supporters actually have very little knowledge of the game. I would dearly love to see the Opta stats more often, with Guly for example I suspect they would show categorically that he is actually one of the hardest working players in the squad, especially when he plays in midfield. But it will be very difficult to change the opinion of some people who see what they want to see (or even in some cases probably they don't even watch games). Bill Sharp is a little different at the moment. The criticism of him is very short term, based on the simple fact that he has not (yet) delivered and has looked almost every game like a fish out of water. OK he scored twice against Donny, but in the first half he looked absolutely terrible. Yet I will sit in the stand on Saturday and cheer him, shout encouragement to him (yes, I know he won't hear me) because I am convinced that soon he will prove to be a good buy, although maybe it will be next season before he really shows this.

Its sad how some people continually give grief to some of our players, but as I said it usually reflects on them rather than the players. I suspect some of the mongs on here would have had a go at MLT or Mick Channon in their day. The ones I really detest are the ones that text into Solent straight after a match about Guly, I wish Solent would stop reading out these mong texts, they really do not contribute in any way and just make the texters look stupid.

I agree, criticising someone because it is cool is ridiculous. I don't agree with you that just because the coaching staff selects someone they are therefore beyond questioning. For a start, the coaching staff do not know for definite how a player is going to perform before a game.

I think it is very dangerous and presumptive on your part to state that those who are critical of some players have very little knowledge of the game. I would imagine that is the case for certain fans in the ground (in fact I know it is because I hear them) but to generalise like that is very unfair.

He makes a huge difference to us, and it does increase their chances of getting something by a large % if he's not fit. Our entire game plan is focused around him and our attack does not function correctly without Lambert, not a single bit.

He's got a terrific relationship with the full backs, Lallana and Guly when he plays - it's kind of telepathic at times and as he's barley missed a game for us we clearly don't have a clue what to do when he's not in the team, as we haven't really prepared for that eventuality too much - which is fair I guess, why waste time preparing for worst?

Hopefully though as we're at home we can get the ball down a bit and pass it, we shouldn't need to hit it long - although you'd have to say that alot of our success comes from that long ball held up and laid off by Rickie...

10 assists and 28 goals in all comps tell you that he's involved in almost half our goals this year. Scary.

Last season, maybe. This year, no. And having one of our two players who are nearest the goal involved in almost half our goals is pretty standard, especially when they're the regular penalty taker and main free-kick taker.

are there any photos of the players training this week yet? That will give us a clue

It's usually Friday morning before they even put those up nowadays. There'll be the presser tomorrow after training I expect so there might be something on Solent or in the Echo from about 11.30 onwards.Don't see why they bother really, Portsmouth will already know who's fit for Saturday, who's iffy and who's out. It's just the supporters who don't know.

The fact that our lead article on the OS is about Barnard seeking a strong finish hardly inspires me with confidence.

On the contrary, it could all be mind-games and Lambert may well start on Saturday.

You decide! ;)

Because someone will have told them. It's not something that's difficult to find out when you're on site.

Remember left back!!!! If you don't broadcast the information to all an sundry no one will be any the wiser.

Articles like this usually mean the player is set to start due to an injury to someone else. There is a pattern of this on our OS of when a player gets interviewed despite having hardly played it usually means they play the next game. Danny Butterfield was the last one, he got interviewed despite only playing a few games and despite Adkins claiming we had a fully fit squad who should play at right back since then with no sign of Richardson, but Danny Butterfield. When Lee was supposed to be making a come back Sharp does an interview and he has started every game since then. It's the club PR spin to talk up a player before they are due to come in for a key player who is injured.

This article is not good news for Lamberts situation i am afraid.

Who would have told them?

Who knows? who was leftback? who is VMAN? (well i think we all know how he knows if not who he is) .People in clinics, construction site workers, not everyone who works for the club is a Saints fan.

Believe me (and I've worked in 'intelligence circles') you'd be surprised how people give away information without even knowing it.

the club control information being made public pretty well but that's not to say they keep it all from prying ears and eyes.

So you have no idea how they would know whether Lambert is fit or not? Fair enough.

Yep, it's a ploy they've used all season.

I think what he's asking is why Pompey would find out before, say, us on here?

If someone is 'leaking' information then its just as likely to be leaked to someone that knows someone on here as it is to someone who knows someone at Pompey?

I think that's the gist behind the question.

Quite. Its very possible that someone on the new construction site is a skate. Even in the fairly unlikely event that he is able to have enough of a look at our training, prep or medical room (last one very unlikely) to see that Lambert isn't playing, is he then going to call straight through to Appleton to give him an update and be taken seriously? Of course not.

But that's just the whole point of what I've said. If the information is aired on here, in the papers,on twitter or facebook or whatever then it becomes common knowledge and eventually the source can be traced down as it no doubt was in the case of leftback and I've a suspicion that VMAN was asked to rein it in a bit as well. If the information is just destined for specific ears or eyes and doesn't become public then the source is rarely exposed. If Pompey's staff want to know about Rickie or Frazer or whoever they will have a way of finding out because they will have either been given the information voluntarily by a "well wisher" or they will know who to ask. It's a simple social network but a very private one.You just can hide stuff like player fitness from prying eyes.

You said that the Skates would know well in advance whether Lambert would be fit or not (something like "would already know"). That is a load of rubbish. It's not impossible that they might find something out well in advance, but it's certainly not likely either.

You know that they know but you don't know how they know?! How can you be so sure they know, if you're not sure yourself how they could know? It seems to me you don't really have any idea what you're talking about, that much I know.

On the strength that I don't think Lambert will play, to try and get a bit of consolation on a DFCSB win I have put 50 English pounds on them @ 6-1.

Not knocking you at all but it's interesting as I've seen people do this but personally I would never bet on an outcome I didn't want.

We all spend so much time saying that we are not a one man team... then look at the response to lambert being injured... people are in danger of losing sight of what is at stake for the remaining 6 games. Stop! Now start thinking of the team, take away this need for a talisman, because when it happens, and the "Talisman" in not available, theres the danger that too mant people will start believing that we have no Plan B... and we do, and a Plan C and probably more. We have players other than Lambert who have scored more goals in this league this season than many other teams top scorers. So have faith in Sharp, Guly, Lallana and in the background Barnard. The team will come together to collect the required points to gain promotion and grind away at enough performances to gain promotion. It was never going to be easy, but with just one more push saints will make it over the line back to the premiership. We must be positive and rely on the TEAM.

Lambert is NOT going to play otherwise OS would have said so by now. Its better to say he IS playing rather than keeping it quiet.

I think we need to down grade the number of goal Saints will score from 4 to 1.

Saints 1 Skates 0

By not saying we all keep looking at OS which is good for marketing.

What is surprising is there is no leaks or I bumped into RL at the pub yesterday and asked him type comments.

Perhaps he has disappeared?

Why would you give a toss either way? According to you we're getting flogged off as soon as we get promoted.
