Thankfully the story rose above the school-boy performance from Danny Kelly. Did I hear him say somebody "took uxbridge" at something they didn't like. lol

compare to todays players...how would shannon compare when at saints in his pomp

He would cut it,he was brave, strong both mentally and physically, could get into goalscoring positions, the only crib of MC is that he should have scored a lot more goals from those goal scoring opportunities.

predictive text....what sort of level of player would he be today...

a david beckham...or a david dunn...?

He would be top class, as he was then. The problem is that I doubt today he would have even been spotted, because he wouldn't have been playing for his local village team (because there wouldn't be one), or for the County Schoolboys and being watched by club scouts.

The interviewer was so bad that he even referred to Kevin Keegan as "flaxen haired." Lawrie corrected him on that one. It was great to listen to Mick, my all-time favourite Saints player. Does anyone remember his early days at Saints when he was continuously falling over? So much so, that the crowd had a chant for it - simplistically, "Channon's fallen over!"

Great spot ! thanks very much,MC my boyhood hero.

Mine as well - in fact still is a hero! An amazing feat to excel in two sports.

Great memories and thanks to the OP.

LOL ... when I first started going to matches with my Grandad, he was always likening Mickey (quite aptly given his at the time unknown love of horses!!) to a new born pony trying to stand up for the first time!! His legs did look so skinny and you really feared for him against some of the seriously vicious defenders of the day!!

However his ability to go to ground did win us countless amount of penaltys - if only we'd had Matty or Rickie to put them all away, we'd have been champions!!

Mick was a youngster just breaking into the team when I first went down to the dell in the early 70's. Great player and a real loyal servant to Southampton

The Intrviewer has done zero research and seems to know so little about anything! Felt sorry for Mick having to answer questions from that prat
