Saints have completed the signing of highly sought after 16 year-old striker Sam Gallagher on a youth contract.

Sam has arrived from Plymouth Argyle's Centre of Excellence, after turning down an apprenticeship with the Pilgrims, and offers from a number of higher level clubs to take up the opportunity of a professional scholarship at the Saints Academy.

Despite having only recently turned 16, Gallagher made eleven appearances for Plymouth's Under-18s in the current season and appeared in their FA Youth Cup 1st round defeat to Bournemouth in November.

The versatile frontman has represented Exeter and East Devon Under-15s at schoolboy level, as well as Devon Under-16s, and successfully came through the same Centre of Excellence at Home Park as Saints defender Jack Stephens.

Plymouth will hate us when him and Stephens are playing in the top flight. Suppose all academy players have to come from somewhere though!

Wonder why Pompey didn't snap them up.

Because they are bankrupt!!!! Almost. ;)
