I can't think of a bigger derby game in my lifetime (and i include '84), win and we're in touching distance to the top flight again. Add to this that we can effectively send them down to league one.

Also we owe them big style for the last few games and there's the outside possibility it could the last derby game against them (in this guise) and at the very least the last for potentially a generation due to league placings.

I am REALLY looking forward to Saturday. See Saints stuff Skates then rush up to the Royal Albert Hall to see Show of Hands in the evening. I KNOW that SoH are going to be brilliant as usual, so Saints, please don`t spoil my day!!

This must not bw blown out of proportion - it's just another game.

Yes it's a derby.

Yes it's another big crowd.

We must not allow the occassion to be bigger than the end result a win!

We must be vocal.

We must be paient.

We cannot allow them a foothold in the game.

The rivalry is an added distraction for the players.

Early kick off is out of the norm - so we may be slow out of the blocks, unlike the fans who will be well oiled!

5.30am start for me with a drive back afterwards.

One game at a time - one win at a time.

Let's just stay 6-points ahead of WHU and worry about Reading when they visit SMS.

Saying all that we only need to win 1-0 in the 95th minute so stay calm.

Well, this time it should be. The only thing that is really important is us getting 3 points. Everything else is a sideshow. Really couldn't give a feck whether we send them down or not. They will go down anyway, with or without our help, we should only care what happens to us and that we win the Football League Championship.

 

But I know thats not how it will be, of course.

It could be against any of the relegation fodder, and it would still be a big game because we need a win to get back on track and keep the pressure on the chasing 2. Being against the blue few just makes it all the more bigger, I hope we crush them into the ground.

Spot on. Nothing winds me up more then all this "it's just another game" nonsense.

 

This is the Skates FFS, I highly doubt their fans are saying similar.

Will have a trawl through the Saints History books this week, the historians and more experienced fans may be able to confirm, but I can't imagine there has ever been a bigger Saints-Pompey game than this one, the implications for both sides are potentially huge.

 

There are so many reasons for wanting to win this game, never will 3 points have tasted sweeter!

now that would be a top day out - stuffing the skates and seeing show of hands at albert hall. Seen them in Slough and Camberly.

I've been watching them for 20 years or so. Seen all their RAH shows. Just glad the game is an early kick off. Bit tight timewise otherwise!

Amen to that, brother. I want us to absolutely ruin them, and then i want them to (painfully) die. This game is so much more than "just another game".

 

I urge every saints fan to make the atmosphere as hostile as possible. Wherever you are in the ground, if a skate comes near you - get stuck into him. A lot of their lot will be young lads in on loan. Let's make it a frightening experience for the ****ing lot of them.

One league loss since 23rd Jan... I would hardly say our season has gone 'off-track'.

Agreed. Have been waiting for this for a long time - they have got away with it for too long and now is the time to bang another nail into their coffin (which they bought but don't have enough money to pay for).

I don't care how I just want us to win, yes it would be fantastic to smash them to fook whilst laughing & taking the p1ss but we have got to get the 3 points this really is such an important game, a scrapy 1 nil that was clearly offside or dodgy pen will do me fine.

 

This will be a test of our bottle don't forget they have beaten Brum & Hull recently & I can't see them laying down & not fighting for everything just have to hope our lads are right up for it I am sure they will be, really looking forward to it this is not another game it is the game

Steve Knightly was born in Southampton which makes them even better.

It's funny i've always seen this game as the one that splits the support, those born in southampton completely understand and get this and for them it means that little bit more. But for many that dont have that link (and by no means all) this isn't the same. They can happily say it's just a game since they don't get just what it does to the place.

 

I'll never forget working at the old LSU before one of the saints pompey games and one of the old women that worked the cafeteria - who i'd never spoken to about football in my life - taking me aside and saying "i know you go to matches and really hope we stuff those scummers" (yup we called them that too). It's about so much more than football and the hatred runs a lot deeper than football.

 

Growing up here you know that, you get it at school, in the streets and at work. Of course it's 3 points, but it's also the dirty fu*cking cheating skate bas*tards and st mary's needs to be a cauldron of hate for them again. Let's not let them forget we're sending them down, hopefully fu*cking their club up for a generation and most importantly getting revenge!
