Billy Sharp

According to Merrington on Solent Sharp wasn't getting any supply so you can hardly fault him. Personally i think he's had a really hard last few months and he's moved to a new area which would take time for any of us to settle let alone someone getting the attention he does. Give the bloke a break, if he starts 10 games and is still not looking 100% then i'd start asking questions, but not after a couple of starts and a handful of substitute appearances.

I do love how a section of the fanbase seem to think we're going to throw money around like confetti if we get promoted.

No, not at all. I've seen him play quite a few games for us now and whilst he's clearly not firing on all cylinders for us at present I fail to see the potential in him. I am very confident that we will go up this season and I don't see any place for him in a Saints Prem team.

When we go up we will need a couple of good forward signings.

So.... four times then......................................................................................... yawn, maybe we should make you manager instead of Atkins?

Thanks. Those comments don't describe the player we're seeing yet. Perhaps he's inhibited by weight of expectation. It does strange things to people. Look at west ham at home.

Or, his kid died, and he's just moved the other end of the Country. I know you are not knocking him, but others on here need to give the guy a break. The simple fact is, we tried to play long ball to someone who is what? 5'7''? never going to work was it. The midfield was gash, and as a result we never generated much up front. that is the issue. Not this poor blokes ability. Because **** me, if he can do it for the second worst team in the league, he can damn well do it for the best?

I thought Guly put in a lot of effort yesterday and id fr better than some on here suggest. I think we must be watching different games most of the time. The

manager thinks him good enough to put him in the team and I think he might be just a bit better qualified to judge than the rest of us put together don't you?!

No room for sentiment at this stage of the season. For me so far he has been a big disappointment. If he can't do the business then he should be left out and someone else given a go (though sadly Lee looks to be out for the season.)

I agree with Hypo, lets all remember that we are just a 'step up in his career' apparantly, well, not unless he ups his game and actually moves.

Jesus some of you would blame guly for anything !! Was he the secret captain of the concordia too ? Jesus, he put in a lot of effort, nearly set up Sharp twice, won a peno, made some crucial interceptions and tried to get the ball off of our midfield.

But obviously Sharp was better, standing still usually iffside and hitting a farking terrible penalty, would I have loved him if he had scored ? No, but atleast he would have come away with a goal from such a terrible performance.

I said I would have rather had Maynard as he adds something else to his game, Lee looked the quality aquisition, Sharp looks like a punt.

And for what it's worth, if we went up I think it'd be Lambert, Guly, Sharp, Lee and 1 new signing competing up front, probably Hooper or Rodriguez. I'd be very happy with that myself.

TBH I hope we get rid of Guly or keep him on the bench. I accept that is not everyones opinion though.

It looks to me like HE doesn't think he's good enough.

Needs some time with a good Sports Psychologist IMO.

And someone so visibly low on confidence shouldn't be taking penalties.

I said something similar, it look's like he is putting himself under too much pressure

What can you expect. Your side gets a penalty and you've to step up and take it in place of one of the game's penaltymeisters.

You f*ck it up and everyman and his dog knows that the other guy would have sunk it .Any fragile confidence that Billy might have gained from his 2 goals the week before would evaporate and take any that you might have had before with it.Missing that penalty could be a turning point in a promotion campaign (but it won't be because we have enough margin) an I think it completely destroyed our morale.

Is it just me, but Pardew seemed to have a better eye for talent than NA? I think Cork looked great at the beginning of the season, but has gone off more recently. Sharpe looks blunt to me. I like the look of Lee, but I'm not convinced will crack the premiership. Jos looks good for this level, but he is too prone to a cock up, like Ipswich and the 2nd goal on Sat.

I am still a fan of NA - I think he's got more out of the players than Pardew ever did, I just haven't seen a really amazing signing yet.

We shall no doubt find out shortly because we're going to need a big dob of players to bring us up to minimal premier league standard. When you look at some of the players that even mid-level sides have and compare them to some of ours it's pretty easy to see. Take Gary Monk for Swansea yesterday, nowhere near the level required and that's why he's just a back up at Swansea.

Bad defending from him gifted Adebayor 2 goals including a simple free header to score Spur's first goal from a corner in 14 months. Said the other day that we'll need at least 6 players and there Nigel (or whoever does the talent spotting) will have to go outside of his comfort zone and start looking further afield for reasonably priced ability. To me we'll need 2 new full backs,at least one starting CB,an efficient RM player and at least 1 top of the range striker and of course a new keeper, hopefully from the Dutch school.

I despair with you lot sometimes. Bunch of f*cking idiots. We're top of the league and you always have something to moan about. Guly is one of our top scores and has a lot of assists too and some of you want us to get rid of him, c*nts. Some of you are so clueless about football. Just enjoy being top and shut up.

Yawn. Guly was the best player on the park at Millwall and the only one who went looking for the ball and mixing it up... Time you took those blinkers in your avatar off.

He was no worse yesterday than:

Lallana

Fonte

Jos

Morgan

Sharp

Fox

Butterfield

Shall I go on?

Hang on, Lallana was the only one who stood out as playing reasonably well and creaed some of our best movements. What game were you watching?

Everything that could go wrong went wrong, it was just a bad day all round. Guly should have scored early on, Sharp missed a penalty, Jos missed a sitter... we could and should have scored 2 or 3. On the flipside, Blackpool were awarded a soft penalty with their player seemingly being picked off by a sniper as he entered the box and the goal we conceded from a corner was a complete gift. How can a player be that unmarked? They were 2 goals which simply should not have happened.

We didn't play well, we still created chances though and on most other days this season they would have been in the net. Definitely one to forget, I think the Pompey game will be a welcomed distraction.

I love it how get I accused of knowing nowt about football, on a site densely populated with (imo, thinly-veilled racist) abuse about Guly and abuse about Billy Sharp.

Guly can turn a game, and frequently has done so, and Billy Sharp is getting his head and fitness together and is already showing his potential in patches.

Some of you should STFU.

Pardew is one of the best managers at buying players in the football league on current form! Either he is good or has a great network - probably both. Pardew is 'well connected' in football. Does NA have the same kind of connections?

Just look at the Pardew signings who are doing the job for us and Newcastle.

Even Charlton fans would admit they were unlucky that his best signings got injured - although most just hate the bloke the same way we hate Redknapp...

NA has plenty of time and opportunity to worry about this if and when he oversees promotion!!

Agree with this.

The atmosphere to Guly when he gives the ball away at St. Mary's is ****ing horrible, but if someone like Lallana does similar then it's always seen as unlucky by the St. Mary's crowd even though Lallana always over complicates things.

On the subject of Sharp, he was very poor on Saturday but a goal or two against Pompey will make up for that. Hopefully Beattie has taught him how to celebrate if he does score.

Not a Prem class player, not in a million years.

Has fluffed loads of chances for us, doesn't look dangerous in any way, slows our play down and today showed he can't take penalties.

When we go up IMO we need to get rid. Discuss.

Pretty sure the penalty save was the only thing he did wrong on Saturday, as a striker you can't do much if you're not given the ball, and he's not going to win loads of headers if we chip it up at his head. He made a few decent space-creating runs for others early on but I'm not sure how anyone can have a go at a striker who was barely within 20 yards of the ball for 70 minutes of the game despite his best efforts ? I saw Guly coming deep and picking the ball up from the centre backs but that's never going to be Sharp's role. Didn't do Guly much good either, come to think of it.

love his energy, great running, but he's not playing with bags of confidence atm, he seems to be snatching at every opportunity he gets, even that penalty

he'll be fine after he bags a hat trick on sat and gets settled down south over the summer

and let's not forget how much he's gone through this year, not just the death of his child but the abuse he got form a minority of donny fans when he left. lesser men would have crumbled.

His confidence is non-existent. The way he looked around at the ref after the whistle had been blown was a key example of this. He looks understandablly mentally fragile, with all he's gone through this year. I genuinely feel for the bloke, as he clearly has ability, but like Fernando Torres, ability counts for little if you have no confidence at all.

And so it goes, we get a sniff at the Premiership and all the pant wetters that Billy ****e hates come on. Everyone gets above their station. Everyone moans. IF we get to Prem, St Mary's will be flooded coz of all the weeping and wetting about 'how we are not good enough'. Control your anxiety behaviour. Whether Billy Sharp is 'good enough' isn't really the point, it's whether you can be a Saints fan whatever division we play in next year. Get A GRIP!!!!!!!

Sharp is clearly good enough for the League we are in, he's proved it before. Whether he's good enough IF we go up, you can say that about a lot of players. Lets get up first and then see.

I would rather have Sharp than Connoly or Barnard.

As for Guly, my gut feeling is he will be good enough. Players are given a bit more time on the ball in the Premiership and he has the ability to use this time. The Championship can be a bit like pin ball sometimes, particulary away from home.

I dont think we'd be 6 points clear of 3rd in the Championship if Pardew was still manager.Cork was a good signing, Fox, Lee looks good, He's got Lambert playing better than Pardew did in my opinion. One bad day at the office and people start to question his judgement of players. Get a grip...........

Trouble with Guly is that he's never played all that many games in a season before. Now we're expecting 30/35 games a year from him and he might find that a bit more than he's really up to.

Billy Sharp will be a really good player for us, and has already made some important positive contributions.

Guly IS a really good(and versatile )player for us.

If the manager who has kept us , against all expectation, in the top 2 all season , and has us six clear of third with 6 to play, thinks Guly is up to doing a job for us, then its good enough for me.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks we can indulge in MB squad selection for next season. Until then, all the players need us 100% behind them.

Although I would expect both players to be important members of the squad next season, whichever league we are in.
