Televised Games

It's something that, if we go up, the players have to get over. We'll be on the TV even more in the top league and the attention is there even more.

Instead of going to parties and concerts this week, maybe the players should have a quiet week in to fully focus on the game.

Played 7

Won 2 Leeds & Leeds

Drawn 3 Blackpool, Pompey and Reading

Lost 2Leicester and Blackpool

Thats what I remember anyway.

It's the level of performance not just results. Other than Leeds at home which I didn't see anyway, it's fair to say we've been below par in all the other games? Not having a go, just thought it would be interesting to hear the views on here.

Yes from what I've seen Saints aren't showing their true selves when they play on TV. I know a couple of Leeds and Leicester fans and they've watched all of the televised Saints games, and from what they've seen they have no idea how we are top of the league. Other fans probably look on Saints the same way we do West Ham. I.E they are **** and nothing special.

God, there is an obvious answer to that, unless you think the players literally get stage fright?

Possibly.... Why do usually reliable and consistent players fail to play to their usual standards when there are a few more cameras in their face?

To be fair though, it's not just this team, but we've always been poor on telly through the years. I'm pretty sure someone posted up some stats earlier in the season, showing the results of all out televised matches. IIRC it was pretty conclusive that we generally lose our tv matches.

God help us if we get to the PL then.....

True. I remember a couple of seasons ago when we were in great form under Pardew, went on TV and got tonked 3-1 by Brighton at home. It is weird.

I guess its related, but I've looked at the (league) stats for how we've got on in 'strange' kick off times compared to 3pm. I make it P21 W15 from 3pm games and P19 W8 from those played at other times, shows that for some reason we aren't the same in evening/early matches. Shame only one of remaining six is going to be played at 3pm... Probably of no interest to anyone but we've won our last 7 3pm games wherever they've been played, and our last at 17 at SMS stretching back to 12/02/2011 v Carlisle.
