saint_disco123 Posted 6 April, 2012 Posted 6 April, 2012 oh stop moaning you lot, we are southampton and we will go up! we just have to stick together, ive seen this club go bottom of league 1 with -10 and somehow get a place outside of the playoffs AND win a cup? that is why i love this club and always will. COYR WIFM WE ARE GOING UP!
brett24 Posted 6 April, 2012 Posted 6 April, 2012 If we don't pick up at least one win out of the next two games, I think it will be the playoffs. Reading will drop points against Brighton and West Ham potentially against Birmingham. Need to win tomorrow to bounce back from last weeks defeat and that will also pile the pressure back on West Ham and Reading.
SaintBobby Posted 6 April, 2012 Posted 6 April, 2012 Only in your head. If you really think Saints will lose or draw, you would be doing your favoured charity a bigger favour by betting that way and giving them the winnings. Saints are about 1/2 to win - so you can approximately treble your stake if they fail to win.

If you think West Ham and Reading are about to drop points, we'd still be in very good shape with two draws. And pretty good shape with just one draw.

Professor Posted 7 April, 2012 Posted 7 April, 2012 (edited) You can't totally rule out a defeat in any single game, as we found last week, but that was against a team pushing for the Play-Offs itself and on its own ground. We should have every confidence of a win today and a clear win. If the unthinkable happened and we were to lose we would not deserve to be promoted on the basis of two consective defeats when our opponents are showing great consistencey, but that is not going to happen. hackedoff Posted 7 April, 2012 Posted 7 April, 2012 That's a silly way of looking at it really. And there is no logic really in what you say. We'll drop points in the run in, whether it's tomorrow or not remains to be seen - but even if we do, we're still in a great position with it all in our hands. A bit less silly now and with the obvious bottle ,drive and graft now wanting the scenario will play out.

Cestrian Saint Posted 7 April, 2012 Posted 7 April, 2012 He was exposed as a skate a while ago... Er, no I was not! That was some ***** who started spreading rumours. I'm a Saint 100%. Too many years of disappointment have made me a pessimistic one, but still a Saint.
SNSUN Posted 7 April, 2012 Posted 7 April, 2012 I am concerned, but having seen the highlights today, I think we performed quite well. Play like that and we'll be up - and there's still the cushion over West Ham. For me, Reading have the title, unless we pull off a cracking set of results, but we're still good for promotion. Still, one game at a time, and all that.
Cestrian Saint Posted 7 April, 2012 Posted 7 April, 2012 look here....tragic reading.... this was the day before the plymouth game...where 1 win from the last 2 would promote us and we were unstoppable at that time many more wonderful insights here http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/search.php?searchid=1073921&pp= More than happy to hold my hands up and say that the lads have proved me wrong on a number of occasions, and yes, I do look like a pillock. lol. But at least I'm able to admit my mistakes, voice my opinion & not be bullied by certain people just for having a different view on things. I always tend to look at the worst case scenario. That's just thae way I am. That way I'm not disappointed when things go tits up. Which, let's be honest, we've been very good at in the past. I still think we'll finish 3rd this season. Anything higher than that will be a major bonus.
Thedelldays Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 such a fannie... we are 4 clear of west ham with 5 to go... brilliant position to be in. just got to get over the line...
um pahars Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 It might of course be reverse psychology, but I don't think we are going to make it. West Ham looked impressive on Friday and I think yesterday was a real downer for us. Reading on a roll and will go up champions. Feel so different from last week, but throwing it away so late on has caused a rethink for me. Injuries aren't helping. If we match West Hams next result, then maybe I'll cheer up, but Reading on Friday isn't one I'm looking forward to (plus away trips to the Boros). Down to the wire!!!!!!!!
sammysaint Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 Mondays game is massive now if we win il be confident of promotion should we lose or draw i will be doubting unless WHUFC also lose or draw, in the eve game vs brum.

What is it with Saints and letting things go down to the wire? I long for the day we just get the job done comfortably and we can all relax and enjoy the moment.
monosaint Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 We are 2nd in the form league behind Reading. Not a bad scenario. WHU are way down so I cannot accept that they are on some kind of amazing late run. I think that we will be going in to Friday's game as the underdogs which will suit us.
S-Clarke Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 (edited) People's moods have been affected too much by WHU's result, all of a sudden, because they beat a truly pathetically inept Barnsley (most L2 teams would have thumped them on that display), they are world beaters and we are now 'in trouble'. The fact is and to put it into some perspective, they went into the game after being thumped by Reading and dropping points all over the place. A 4-0 win does not make you world beaters again, they still have their weaknesses and Birmingham are dangerous opposition for them. We're still 4pts ahead of them btw, and I still would say that it will take an almighty ****up by us to finish below them. 4 points doesn't sound much, but to cut that deficit and finish above us in 5 games is some ask - we're still going to be picking up results. View From The Top Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 This is the defining week of the season IMHO. 3pts tomorrow is an absolute must otherwise.....
Whitey Grandad Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 This is the defining week of the season IMHO. 3pts tomorrow is an absolute must otherwise..... Tomorrow's game is the key to promotion. Of course it's not all over if we lose but things would get very hairy.
S-Clarke Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 Tomorrow's game is the key to promotion. Of course it's not all over if we lose but things would get very hairy. It's not really key. We could drop points here then win against Boro and Reading. At the end of the day we need around 7 points, we have 15 available.

At the end of the day we need around 7 points, we have 15 available. If we win three of our last five we'l be very unlucky to miss out. I know tomorrow isn't everything but on paper it's one of the easier one's that we should be looking to win. Boro and Readng being the most difficult.
trousers Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 Ok....it's confession time....(Happy Easter btw)....official statistics show that I've been the most positive poster on this forum this season (undisputed fact).....I've predicted a top 2 finish since the beginning, even when we were going through our winter dip....but....for the first time this season I've woken up with the gut feeling that we'll now slip into the play-offs at the last hurdle. Please forgive me Lord.

Thedelldays Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 I think we will be fine....we will win tomorrow. Play like we did against pompey and we will score a couple
trousers Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 Have a word with yourself trousers! Letting us all down... I'm genuinely sorry....I really don't want to feel like this....I will speak to the priest about it later.
Dr Who? Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 Come on lads, I am bricking it as much as the next man, and it is only natural to do so, and even more reason when we have been in the topn2 all season! Also you look at Cardiff and they screwed it all up at the end of the season 0-3 down after 15 minutes at home to Boro. Right we have not won in the last 2 so we will beat palace and or Reading. Brighton could do us a huge favour and they need to win games to get backing the play offs. I really do think we will win 2 of the next 3 and that will pretty much wrap it up.
Gordon Mockles Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 I have thought for a while & still do that the Reading match will be a title deciding match!
Saint137 Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 We will be fine. Played well yesterday, created a load of chances and Ashdown had a blinder. On another day we could easily have been 3-1 at halftime. The others will slip up. If we win tomorrow we will be top with 4 games left. If we win Friday we will be 3 points clear at the top with three games left.
DrunkenSaint Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 I still dont know, the uncertainty is doing my head in.If we win at Blackpool i think i'll believe we're going to do it. Well i said to myself, if we got anything from Blackpool game and won our home games against Pompey+Coventry and won one away game we would be fine, but 1 point from Pool and Pompey isn't good enough, i have us finishing 3rd.
Dr Who? Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 West ham will only get 8 more points in my opinion. Their next 2 games are massive. If this is the case we will need 4 points from the last 5. We will beat Cov and win tomorrow. Job done!
obelisk Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 Oh dear! If even the rose-tinted brigade are now starting to think the worst just imagine how those of us that are naturally pessimistic feel inside.
Thedelldays Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 only saints fans would go back top of the league with 5 games to go and think we have blown it... ffs we will win at palace draw against reading beat posh lose at boro beat cov imo

We have seriously dropped the ball twice this season when the title should have been sewn up. We could have been over the hill and far away in December, and now we've let ANOTHER invincible-looking lead slip. We dont do the big occasion, we have glass jaws. We are staggering towards the line and it shouldnt be so.

Have some balls because you are such a bloody bedwetter, the worst guy to have around when you want some support. If you thought that the title would have been sewn up early on then you continue to show your complete lack of knowledge in regards to football, whenever is it that simple? There will still be twists and turns, but at the moment we are still in pole position. To say we don't do the big occasion is utter moronic. This team has been up for the big occasion in the last 3 seasons, and they will come over the line in the end. Show some guts and actually support them over the line.

However I have felt for a few weeks now that we will miss out on automatic promotion by 1 point and then slip up against Leicester in the first stage of the play offs. Unfortunately losing 13 points to teams in the bottom four has not helped our cause over the course of the season

I think we've got 3rd place written all over us. :-/
BlakeySFC Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 Supporting this club as long as I have, i know we always seem to self-destruct Hoping, praying and keeping fingers and toes crossed we go up automatically (play-offs is a stupid lottery), but I know this club has a tendency to self-destruct at the wrong times and i'm hoping we can see this through now and go up either in 1st or 2nd (doesn't matter to me which) as I think only getting play-offs now will be a travesty.
Saint Luke Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 Not feeling too confident but as with saints you just don't know. Also have the feeling that if we end up in the play offs we won't prevail. Too many years of being a saints fan. I am of course 100% behind the team and have enjoyed the season so far and I am generally pretty level headed, not too optimistic, not too pessimistic.
st.sj Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 Do I think we will go up, well doesnt matter what I think because that sure as hell wont get us up. What I know though is, 1.We have been in the top two most of the season. 2. At 41 games and only 5 games left we are top. 3. We have a 4 point [equivelant to 5 points with goal difference] lead against West Ham in third. 4. West Ham have not been madly impressive at home and 3 of there 5 games remaining are at home. 5. If we think there is pressure with points in the bank, how must West Ham feel with 5 points they know they must make up. Also with the fans not totally backing there manager. [cant say I blame them he is a bit of a ****]. 6. In Adkins we have a clever totally focussed manager who will have the players prepared to there best for each game. 7. In Southampton we have a truely great team spirit with players fighting for each other and can you imagine how life changing it will be for them playing in the Premier league. 8.If we lose tomorrow we can still easily go up, if West Ham lose tomorrow they wont be far away from missing out. After a season of such consistency, why would we come third to Reading and West ham in a 5 game league, much more likely 2nd or first. So stop worrying about if we will or wont go up, just get behind the team with out fear and doubt for each game, and take it one game at a time. Now if we all do that I know we will go up.
Saintandy666 Posted 8 April, 2012 Posted 8 April, 2012 (edited) 2 wins and we are up in my opinion. We could be all but promoted by 10pm friday. Edited 8 April, 2012 by Saintandy666
