Does anyone think we wont go up ?

I'm not as confident as some others appear to be on here. I find some of the presumptious threads on this board more than a little uncomfortable (probably will do - even if we do go up, to be honest) and would prefer to wait until its a done deal before all the trumpet blowing.

Things can change pretty quickly - at the moment we look odds on, but if we lose tomorrow and either Reading of West Ham win - then it's gonna be game on. Hope we keep sprinting to the finish line - but I'm not sure that we are dead certs yet.

We're the best side in the league and everyone knows it. No one has been as consistent as we have been all season. We've got every reason to be confident, it's entirely in our own hands.

If it were another side in our position we would be saying that they are up.

Have faith and enjoy as this group of players have never let us down thus far.

Totally Agree.

Its really getting to me with people already assuming were as good as up, we are opening ourselves up for an almighty fall & **** take if god forbid we should fail, and i'm not sure theres enough egg to go round.

As NA says 1 game at a time, never too high never to low & until the fat lady is screeching her head off i'm counting on nothing. If we do win today, we cant finish any lower than 7th and if results go our way we could be in the playoffs. So I'm just crossing off each result.

Seriously - every oppo forum ive read thinks their club has a monopoly on screwing up and doing things the hard way. Outside the big four, fatalism, exceptionalism and pessimism are hardwired into every fan's DNA. It so common its boring.

Trying to think one game at a time but it's so hard to do so at this point in the season. I find some of our fans talking like we're already up hugely arrogant as we know how quickly things can change in football, but if we can get a win at Blackpool I do believe it'll be a case of when and not if.

Spot on. The Pompey game will not be an easy one either - derbies are nearly always close.

I disagree. The only reason top teams dont beat bottom teams is complacency. However, it's a derby so we will be up for it and our quality will shine through. There's no way Pompey will be able to hold us for 90 minutes.

My only downer is that if we go 3 up or something we wont go on from that and thump them 5 or 6 nil. We will conserve energy for our game 2 days later.

My head says we will go up, my heart is suffering the anxieties brought on by forty years of supporting the Saints. But can everyone stop all these ' 'When we go up, when we are champions' threads because they just make it worse. Trust me, we've got chickens at home and I NEVER count them.....

This.

And I've got two chickens at home as well. I know I have two, because I get an expert in every year to count them for me.

Mathematically we need 14 points for promotion. Every point we get, or the 3rd placed team drops, reduces that.

When it's down to 0, and not before, I'll celebrate and hope to win the league too.

3 wins and we are up IMO probably champions

maybe even 2 wins and a draw...for 2nd

And thats assuming West Ham and Reading win all their games after today......one of them might, both of them ? Very very unlikely.

We can afford to lose 2 games as things stand. I fully expect one of them to be today in all honesty.

agree...2 games if one of the other two win all their games...which they both can't..

so in reality, with the way form works, we probably could lose 3 games.....but as long as reading don't beat us at SMS

We still have a long way to go, but to put it into some sort of context we'll need a run that was worse than our run over Dec/January in order to fail. That period accumulated just 9 points.

9 points now will give us 87 points which should be enough for top 2, maybe not top spot - but top 2.

Stop panicking!

I still think it will be touch and go with more twists and turns, Blackpool game will be hard to get 3 points from, Boro away, Pompey and Reading home will also be tough games, yes if we win them all we're there but i can't really see it myself, im sure Pompey will want to damage our chances and a victory against us would make their season.

If we don't go up from our present platform it will be because we totally blow our last 7 matches and heads will roll.

Our salary levels are totally unsustainable without Premier League football and that is why NC has decreed that we need to make the PL this season.

From here failure would not be tolerated believe it.

It's the natural Saints pessimism. Don't worry, we all have it.

Two posts sum it up for me.

We are more than able, but we all know we are also more than capable of ballsing it up.

I assume you mean players' heads will roll rather than Adkins'?

Even IF we don't go up, I can't envisage any scenario whereby he'd get sacked.

As I don't actually envisage us not getting promotion I haven't really given much thought to exactly what might happen if we blow a 5/6 point lead in just 7 games.I could see NC being enraged enough to do something which might appear inconceivable at this moment though. It's not going to happen anyway.. In 2 or 3 more games we'll be as good as up.

If WHU v RFC is a draw and we win i'll be quietly confident.

However the biggest game is undoubtedly SFC v RFC. Win that and we should be home and dry.

Agreed. Nothing is certain until it cannot possibly go any other way, but if results go our way today (with the results you mention) and we beat Reading, it will take a big turnaround in form and fortune to prevent our promotion.

Until it's certain though, it's not certain.

We're not up until promotion is a mathematical certainty but as we all know, to miss out requires both Reading and West Ham to get above us, not just one of them. Statistically that is very unlikely when there are only 7 games to play and there is a 6-point gap to 3rd. The unexpected can happen in football but because of GD, WHU have to get 7 points more than Saints in just 7 games and if they do take points off Reading today, the prospect of Reading getting above us becomes less likely. Vice versa also applies of course and a draw is even better for us as the two clubs would drop 4 points between them. We'll all be watching for that result today but I don't think it really matters.

As for Saints, we have this 10-game unbeaten run but it hasn't all been plain sailing - at Leeds for example - and you can't rule out losing a game or two during the run-in, even if that seems unlikely on current form. We can afford to lose a couple of games and still get to 90 points which, even if one of our rivals got to that total, is almost certainly too much for them both to reach. So, you can't take it for granted and if the players did so, it would be a major mistake (remember Brighton's slump last year after they got enough points to win the title) but I'm with those who believe promotion is going to happen. And we may not even need 90 points for that.
