Saintandy666 Posted 29 March, 2012 Share Posted 29 March, 2012 Makes me sad I love space related stuff, hope NASA or someone else can get it together and we can start exploring again soon! On a slightly related note, anyone see this... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-17539315

Sheaf Saint Posted 29 March, 2012 Share Posted 29 March, 2012 Could have given Discovery a coat of paint... Actually, I think if I was going to see it at The Smithsonian i would prefer to see it in its worn state and showing its mileage. Would seem a lot more authentic then. They are unrestored and you can still see the scorch marks from reentry. Terrifyingly small and unsophisticated too, like going to space in a 1960s mini. Whitey Grandad Posted 29 March, 2012 Share Posted 29 March, 2012 Enterprise is going to the aircraft carrier Intrepid museum in New York: http://www.space.com/13907-space-shuttle-enterprise-ownership-intrepid-museum.html Well worth a visit, but I don't know how they're going to land it on there! LVSaint Posted 29 March, 2012 Share Posted 29 March, 2012 Bye bye. Am glad I got to watch it trailing the ISS across the sky last year after 'un-docking'.

Lighthouse Posted 30 March, 2012 Share Posted 30 March, 2012 Well worth a visit, but I don't know how they're going to land it on there! Here's how. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Airways_Flight_1549 I've been on the Intrepid. That plane came to a stop right off the stern off the carrier, shame they couldn't just winch it up and stick it on the deck really.

Did you know that the aircraft elevators used technology that was orriginally designed for the moving stage of the Radio City Music Hall?
