Picked this thread up on KUMB

Are southampton the new Westham

In terms of player development...

Alan Shearer

Matt Le Tissier

Gareth Bale

Wayne Bridge

The Walcott

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

etc

Never really connected the dots before, but they have produced some cracking players over the years. Oh, and am not being serious re the title of this thread. However, credit where credit's due, they seem to have an awesome academy

I thought our recent academy success where quite well known but I suppose if you're outside the PL no one notices. Anyway Interesting thread I thought.

we get too blinkered in thinking we have the best academy in the world...we don't...

I think that's the point Westham fans have the same opinion of their academy but here we have a Westham fan pointing out that our academy has probably produce more talent than theirs in recent times.

I suggest most of us don't think we have the best academy in the world because most of us don't have knowledge of all of the academies in the world but just out of interest who do you think does?

Ajax? PSV? :D This could be interesting but I think the dutch academies are brilliant.

Phuck off! We're the peoples front judiah.

Seriously. No we are Southampton end of.

I thought we were the Judian People's Front............ Still blessed are the Cheesemakers!

Strange I thought everyone knew we had a player factory like what Crewe have churning out household names of the future.

Bloody cheek the new West Ham (mind you I do get the point)! I've always kept a look out for how they were doing over the years and must admit that when we played them at SMS this season, I thought they were not even a ghost of the West Ham teams in the past that believed in playing football on the grass - Bobby Moore would have been turning in his grave.

Theres a few more that could/should be on that list.

It's a wonderful thing to have such a good academy that continuously produces excellent prospects, but it would be even better if we actually got to see the fruits of it for ourselves rather than Arsenal/Spurs etc... Maybe if/when we return to the PL we might get a few more of the emerging starlets sticking around a while longer.

It's worth noting that of all the names mentioned so far on this thread, the only one who went on to produce the goods for us instead of bailing out at the earliest opportunity of a bigger payday was MLT. Although that's probably more of a reflection on football in general than it is on the the club and/or academy.

"Shearer - fair enough

Le tis - great player but could have been a lot better (Joe Cole)

Gareth Bale - overhyped imo, just like most british players are

Wayne Bridge - He is alright, nothing to shout about

Walcott - good player (could be argued that swindon had a role in his development?)

Ox - See Gareth Bale (for now anyway)

Personally I still think we have produced better players in the same time period."

Is he comparing Le God to Joe Cole? Seriously Joe bloody Cole?!

Bale and Chamberlain overhyped? Clearly this chimney sweep does not watch football.
