At least one of the sites has heavily hinted that Dan Seaborne will be in the squad - if not playing - on Saturday.

Whatever the circumstances of his injury, I'm sure fans will be glad to see him back fit again, I can only hope that we don't get a stupid wave of criticism before he even laced up his boots on Saturday.

He's been out for a L-O-N-G time, and if he is being considered for the Blackpool - he must surely be " Saints fit " otherwise NA won't pick him.

Thanks but no thanks, can't afford to flip about now.Squad is just fine as it is,unless of course we have a non-disclosed injury to one of the 3 CBs.

Well Hooiveld couldn't go to the darts event last night due to "shaking off the flu".

From his twitter feed last night...

Have to let my dart fans down. Im recovering from a flu, cant make it tonight to fight the mighty Phil the power Taylor.

He should be fit for Saturday surely?

Don't see it myself...would have thought that Fonte/Hooiveld will be the pairing for the rest of the season and if any injuries that Martin will come in (who seemed to do very well recently).

Posted

was never good enough before, extremely unlikely he has become better during his time recovering. I hope he enjoys a good rest of his career.............somewhere else.

I think he could play a role next season wherever we find ourselves, but Martin is cemented in the squad for the remainder of this year.

I think we will bring in another centre back to replace Jaidi and that leaves us with 5 which will be fine.

Posted

Great that he's recovered. But I put him behind Martin and possibly also behind Jaidi.

Would be bizarre if he started on Saturday.

Squad player at best and a likely departure in the Summer, I'd think.

The thing is he can provide cover for both left back and centre back. In that sense he frees up other options on the bench as NA can use him in place of both Martin and Harding. Add one striker.

Unfair, he was actually pretty good.

Come on, he was sh!te really. Nervy, out of position most of the time, got beaten in the air a lot and gave away needless fouls.

Still, I watched the reaction video on SaintsPlayer from the U21 game he played in the other day and he seems like a good fella. I wish him luck, but I think if he wants to be playing first-team football it probably won't be here.

Yes he improved but is still miles behind Hooiveld and Fonte in terms of quality. He gets bullied off the ball too easily, gets caught out of position too often and lacks the experience the others do. There's no way I'd play him in any of the remaining games unless we have a couple of injuries.

Highly doubt he would get a start, bench possibly but that would be harsh on Martin who has been decent back-up. Plus, doesn't Seaborne say in the interview on the OS that he has another game coming up as part of his recovery program? I took that to mean the development squad and not the first team. I think he is a way off first team duties, not 'Saints Fit' yet.

That is how I saw him as well. I don't think Martin or Seaborne have the makings of being Premier League centre backs.

For starters if you read the article on the OS correctly he says in his own words that he believes another 90 mins will make him match fit again.

Secondly he was a terrible centre back, SuperMikey has it spot on. Martin has shown he has the ability and balls to play well at this level when called upon. Why would we put a player that has been missing through complete stupidity of his own missed a large portion of the season.

Exeter were laughing when they managed to lump him off to us. He should and i hope never play for our first team again. Ship him off to league 1 where he belongs!!

No Le Goddard not unfair atall! :D

I really doubt he'll get a game with us this season, would be much more surprised if we ever play him in the prem. He's such a frustrating cb to watch, makes a good tackle then gets caught out by a basic ball over his head or a simple pass. Looked out of depth in the last 20 mins away at Rochdale!

Sad the way he was out of action this season and good for him to getting back to fitness with the club, but never a championship cb.

Correct that in his interview, Dan Seaborne talks about being close to match fitness. But speculation on a website is no evidence at all and its most unlikely that he'd be put in the first team after just two games. I imagine even Jack Cork is ahead of him at the moment.

But to say Seaborne is a terrible CB shows why Nigel Adkins is a professional football manager and Whitee1987 is not! Best for fans to stick to watching matches, that's what we are good at.

Martin is a lot better than seaborne and if he was fit and we didnt get Jos i really don't think we would be where we are now. I would of sold him at the end of last season as the championship is out of his depth.

Seaborne plays and our defense will be as bad as Blackpool's. Was rubbish before his "incident" and definitely cant be any better now!

That's rubbish though.

He wasn't, he was part of the reason we were solid at the start of the year. I'm baffled by peoples views on him based from the start of the season.

In L1 he was questionable at times, but the start of this season was the best he's ever played for us - so why on earth that's being held against him is beyond me.

I think Martin could be a good centre back in the future if he gets a little more composed on the ball. I feel that he has the natural ability to improve and become a first-teamer for us within 3 years.

Unfortunately I don't think that Seaborne will make it though. Like I said, he seems like a good bloke and has done really well to get back from a potentially life-threating situation, but I can't see him making it at the level we're looking to progress to.
