Willo Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 Consider the scenario...we are guaranteed promotion, but a win would gurantee the title. would you want to lose to help keep coventry up at the expense of pompey? I supposd most would say 'yes'...and would make up for the result between pompey and west brom all those years ago... But there may be some (me included) who have never seen us win a meaningful trophy, and i would love to win this division and know we are the best team in this division...
S-Clarke Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 Nope, I would never want to go into any game hoping for a defeat. Silly attitude to take. As long as we get promoted I couldn't give 2 ****s about what happens to them, as we all know that they're destined for years below us anyway.
Barry the Badger Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 No no no. Anyway, would be funnier in some ways to tell them how we kept them up.
teacher Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 Us winning the league would **** Pompey off more! Think about it most Pompey fans already believe that they are going down!
St Chalet Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 No no no. Anyway, would be funnier in some ways to tell them how we kept them up. This
aintforever Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 I would only want to lose if the game meant nothing. If we had already won the league it's a no brainer. If we clinch the title at Middlesboro and a Coventry win would send pompey down I would expect the whole SFC squad to be out on a week long ****-up.
Leslie Charteris Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 Go for the win - nothing else is as important.
Barry the Badger Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 If we had already won the league it's a no brainer. . I really don't think it is, maybe I'm a no brainer. I thought the Pompey fans were utterly pathetic with their West Brom shirts that season, what kind of moron wants their own team to lose?
John Boy Saint Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 Little Warning QPR had it in the bag for the last game last season the bunting was out and they went and lost the last game! Look at the precarious position they are in now just because they let their guard down in their final game of the Championship. You never see the top teams taking pity on their opposition they just go out to get the job done, Alex Ferguson had no idea that he had just relegated his mate Brian Kidd after Man U had done Blackburn until someone told him in the post match TV interview, he sent his players out to win again.
CFSFC Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 I really don't think it is, maybe I'm a no brainer. I thought the Pompey fans were utterly pathetic with their West Brom shirts that season, what kind of moron wants their own team to lose? Me. If we've won league then I'd want to lose 7-0 to send them down 100%
Red Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 Even if we've secured the title I would never want us to lose. PFC are finished regardless. I'd like to see them relegated, but I think they'll stay up anyway. Just means they'll be even more bitter about the next points deduction to relegate them, or liquidation. This - anyone that "fixes" a result is a cheat - simples!!!
CWD Posted 27 March, 2012 Posted 27 March, 2012 I really don't think it is, maybe I'm a no brainer. I thought the Pompey fans were utterly pathetic with their West Brom shirts that season, what kind of moron wants their own team to lose? This 100 times over
Leslie Charteris Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Me. If we've won league then I'd want to lose 7-0 to send them down 100% D*ck
Junction 9 Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Little Warning QPR had it in the bag for the last game last season the bunting was out and they went and lost the last game! How would winning the last game of last season affect the position they're in now?
thefunkygibbons Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 No way I think we should look after ourselves and let Pompey be the masters of their own destiny, whatever that will be
Colinjb Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Well, if we send Coventry down I wouldn't be able to go home.
dune Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 If we both need a point I would hope for a discreet chat between the managers.
Noodles34 Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Championship Trophy, Jeez, what is that all about? Really something to tell your kids about? The day we won the second division. It does not matter how we go up, as long as we do, i mean i would much rather go up via the play offs if we are guaranteed to win them, much beter ending to the season. So, yeah, i would take a loss, finish 2nd and laugh at that lot down the road, just like they did back in 05.
WHITEE1987 Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Go for the win 100%. F**K Pompey! I always thought people went to the football to cheer their team on to a win not tactically loose to send local rivals down another division.
alpine_saint Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Revenge is not a healthy emotion, but in this case I'd make an exception.
conaero Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Win the game, **** Poopey, they are going down anyway.
Paul75 Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 I dont give 2 ****s if they stay up or go down, they aint my team I just want us to go up
bpsaint Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Would rather end the 7 year football league tour in style with an emphatic home win. Besides, Pompey will be safe from relegation well before then.
Micky Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Interesting that the longest thread on this board is a discussion based around those 'dirty cheating skate b@sturds' down the road, and here were are contemplating the same tactics. Even if we blew automatic, had no chance of a play off place - I would still want us to beat Coventry.
ThreeSixty Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 If we had the title sown up, i wouldn't cheer for a Coventry win though i wouldn't exactly lose sleep over a loss.
Dr Who? Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Saints to win in every game they play in. We may need to win to go up!
SaintBobby Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Have to play to win whatever the league position. Even more so if we need points to win the championship (this is probably out best chance of a serious piece of silverware for the rest of our liftetimes. If you don't think it's "meaningful", I'd love to know what meaningful trophies you think we might win in future!) We're a decent, sporting club unlike the twisted, cheating phew.
kpturner Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 It would be like a multiple orgasm...How would you know?
colehillsaint Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Would not even consider for a second wanting us to lose. Would not happen anyway. Our team and manager are better than that.
Wade Garrett Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 They lied down against West Brom, we should return the favour.
kpturner Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Is it a competition to see how many threads on this topic that can be started before the end of the season?
Noodles34 Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Saints to win in every game they play in. We may need to win to go up! why do some people not read the OP?
djharvey Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Consider the scenario...we are guaranteed promotion, but a win would gurantee the title. would you want to lose to help keep coventry up at the expense of pompey? I thought the Pompey fans were utterly pathetic with their West Brom shirts that season, what kind of moron wants their own team to lose? If we have already won the league the Coventry result is meaningless. Surely SFC would have more to gain through blooding a few youth players than getting 3 points?
Thedelldays Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 If we have already won the league the Coventry result is meaningless. Surely SFC would have more to gain through blooding a few youth players than getting 3 points? you knows it get JWP, Shaw on the pitch....give Jaidi a go and bart...that should be enough to ensure we don't win lol
Gigersaint Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Nope, Saints win and Championship league winners for me. F*** the lot down the road, hopefully they'll go down on their own merit.
influx Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 I really must be a **** fan. I'm guessing you're all grown men so why the **** do you act like children when it comes to Pompey? Yeah they wore WBA shirts etc, but why stoop to there level? F*ck 'em.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 I've never wanted my team to lose any game the past 40 years, and I'm not going to start now. Players aren't going to throw it, they dont have a hatred of rivals like supporters do. Any poor performance will be because the jobs done, and they've taken their eye off the ball, nothing else. Them sending us down was a myth anyway, we lost, had we won we would have stayed up. Dennis Law's back heel didn't send Utd down either, while we're on the subject.
Professor Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 I just don't understand why anyone would be so desperate to see Portsmouth relegated. Our rival Hampshire club they are but the emphasis should be on rivalry, not adolescent hatred. Being back in the Prem will mean Saints have regained their place as Hampshire's Number One club. Whether Pompy are in the second tier or the third really doesn't matter, and for those of us who follow County Cricket, Saints and Pompy fans are on the same side!
Dark Munster Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 Saints beat Coventry, winning the title, but which also saves the Cheats from relegation. The phew endure the humiliation of the "scummers" saving them. For a day. Relief with humiliation turns into total despair as their cesspit of a club is liquidated the following day.
dune Posted 28 March, 2012 Posted 28 March, 2012 http://www.skybluestalk.co.uk/threads/15644-SFC-and-CCFC-United I urge you all to register and spread the love.
