lose to coventry to send pompey down?

Consider the scenario...we are guaranteed promotion, but a win would gurantee the title. would you want to lose to help keep coventry up at the expense of pompey? I supposd most would say 'yes'...and would make up for the result between pompey and west brom all those years ago...

But there may be some (me included) who have never seen us win a meaningful trophy, and i would love to win this division and know we are the best team in this division...

Nope, I would never want to go into any game hoping for a defeat.

Silly attitude to take.

As long as we get promoted I couldn't give 2 ****s about what happens to them, as we all know that they're destined for years below us anyway.

I would only want to lose if the game meant nothing. If we had already won the league it's a no brainer.

If we clinch the title at Middlesboro and a Coventry win would send pompey down I would expect the whole SFC squad to be out on a week long ****-up.

Little Warning QPR had it in the bag for the last game last season the bunting was out and they went and lost the last game! Look at the precarious position they are in now just because they let their guard down in their final game of the Championship.

You never see the top teams taking pity on their opposition they just go out to get the job done, Alex Ferguson had no idea that he had just relegated his mate Brian Kidd after Man U had done Blackburn until someone told him in the post match TV interview, he sent his players out to win again.

I really don't think it is, maybe I'm a no brainer. I thought the Pompey fans were utterly pathetic with their West Brom shirts that season, what kind of moron wants their own team to lose?

Me. If we've won league then I'd want to lose 7-0 to send them down 100%

Even if we've secured the title I would never want us to lose. PFC are finished regardless. I'd like to see them relegated, but I think they'll stay up anyway. Just means they'll be even more bitter about the next points deduction to relegate them, or liquidation.

This - anyone that "fixes" a result is a cheat - simples!!!

How would winning the last game of last season affect the position they're in now?

Championship Trophy, Jeez, what is that all about? Really something to tell your kids about? The day we won the second division.

It does not matter how we go up, as long as we do, i mean i would much rather go up via the play offs if we are guaranteed to win them, much beter ending to the season.

So, yeah, i would take a loss, finish 2nd and laugh at that lot down the road, just like they did back in 05.

Interesting that the longest thread on this board is a discussion based around those 'dirty cheating skate b@sturds' down the road, and here were are contemplating the same tactics. Even if we blew automatic, had no chance of a play off place - I would still want us to beat Coventry.

Have to play to win whatever the league position. Even more so if we need points to win the championship (this is probably out best chance of a serious piece of silverware for the rest of our liftetimes. If you don't think it's "meaningful", I'd love to know what meaningful trophies you think we might win in future!)

We're a decent, sporting club unlike the twisted, cheating phew.

Win the title! if we send them down achieving this then so be it, but win the title first & foremost.

If we have already won the league the Coventry result is meaningless. Surely SFC would have more to gain through blooding a few youth players than getting 3 points?

you knows it

get JWP, Shaw on the pitch....give Jaidi a go and bart...that should be enough to ensure we don't win lol

I've never wanted my team to lose any game the past 40 years, and I'm not going to start now.

Players aren't going to throw it, they dont have a hatred of rivals like supporters do. Any poor performance will be because the jobs done, and they've taken their eye off the ball, nothing else.

Them sending us down was a myth anyway, we lost, had we won we would have stayed up.

Dennis Law's back heel didn't send Utd down either, while we're on the subject.

I just don't understand why anyone would be so desperate to see Portsmouth relegated. Our rival Hampshire club they are but the emphasis should be on rivalry, not adolescent hatred. Being back in the Prem will mean Saints have regained their place as Hampshire's Number One club. Whether Pompy are in the second tier or the third really doesn't matter, and for those of us who follow County Cricket, Saints and Pompy fans are on the same side!

Saints beat Coventry, winning the title, but which also saves the Cheats from relegation.

The phew endure the humiliation of the "scummers" saving them.

For a day.

Relief with humiliation turns into total despair as their cesspit of a club is liquidated the following day.
