The Gambia - Here to brighten up an already sunny day....

To save the 'rigmarole' of a collection, perhaps there's a few quid in the SWF membership 'rainy day' account that could be tapped into to buy a kit for the Gambian lads? Would make a great story - could even make the national press with the right contacts...it might even pay for itself if it drums up a wave of new memberships to here. Just a thought.

I'm not being funny, but we can't even get a kit for our OWN fans' team out of that fund... love the video though !

Sorry for not being online to respond in the las few days.....

Wow! I cannot believe what a great and positive response this thread has received! Thank You so much to everyone!

Just a little update.....

The Echo are calling us shortly to interview us and do a feature on The Gambian Saints Supporters Club, so they have obviously picked up and been touched by the story too.

My Dad is due back in the UK today, and will then be flying back out there the following weekend (on Easter Sunday) so I guess if you would like any of your old kits or memorabilia to go out there, then it would be easiest if posted to me to arrive here in the next week, then I could give them to him to take back out. If any of you are genuinely up for being that kind and generous, then please post them to: Mr L Reeves, Flat 7 'Pinewood', 38 Lowther Road, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH8 8NQ and I will make sure they get taken out.

I can then post photographic evidence on here (when I get it) of them proudly wearing the stripes! :)

I appreciate it's a big ask, and you would be basing this on trust, but if you do wish to donate, then please get in touch or post to the address above. But we don't have much time if we want it out there soon. My Dad wont be returning to the UK again until late summer, and is not then back out there until November. So it would be great if we could move fast with this.

Thanks again for the Saints love, I'm overwhelmed.... as I'm sure Hassan and the his fellow Gambian Saints will be! :)

The Echo might be another good place to advertise the collection of shirts/merch. Obviously you don't want to be giving out your address to the whole of the south of England, but you might be able to convince The Echo to accept deliveries to their HO? Even for them to post things if they're not received in time for you dad to take back.

The Echo obviously reaches more people than this forum.

I have put some of my saints shirts in the post to you today

Regards

That's amazing, thank you so much!

I appreciate that so much, and I know that Hassan and the gang will be totally made up. I'll make sure we get some pictures up on here.

What sort of memorabilia do you want. I have some bits you can have. I have some old style Matt Le Tiss T shirts you can have if I can find them as well as a partly signed Saints home top. Pele is one of the signatures your welcome to have

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike,

I just wanted to say another massive thanks for sending the shirts, it's so generous of you! I returned from work yesterday to find the package.

Basically the guy is Saints mad, and he is trying to spread the Saints word to all who will listen, so really I'd just say anything you could spare and dont want anymore would be loved over there! :)

Regarding the club officially.... they havent really been able to help us as they have their fingers in a lot of pies already with the Saints Foundation, so weren't able to help us or let us have a drop box in the club shop for shirts. But we completely understand that, as they have their own charities to help, and apparently shirts going over to Africa already.

The Echo interviewed my brother this week, so hopefully that should be featured soon, and they are considering whether shirts can be sent to their HQ and they would hold them for us until we have enough to take out and kit the full team! :)

Thanks to all for your kind words and generosity!

Can't believe peoples generosity here, we now have over 20 shirts to take out!

We are due to go out in either November or January, so we will be sure to take hundreds of photos and videos to post and share. May be able to give them to my Dad to take over sooner if he comes back between now and November.

Thanks again to everyone!

Bump.

Does/Has anyone managed to keep in contact with this fella? Has he had the chance to visit St. Mary's?

I've got a fair few old shirts that I was hoping to donate to an African charity (with the ulterior motive of expanding our fanbase of course!) but it'd be great if they could go to this guy and his mates!

It would be great to have some kind of update on how he's enjoyed our first season in the Premiership and relatively respectable start to our second.

Have just seen this for the first time, brilliant!

I'm actually doing a series of feature stories in the Matchday Programme this season under the title 'GlobalSFC' and would love to do an updated story about our Saints man from Gambia. Could go into even more depth than the original Echo story with 2 or 3 extra pictures included. If anyone connected to Hassan or the Reeves would be able to help out by putting me in contact with them, it would be greatly appreciated. I can be contacted for this project on saintsletiss@hotmail.com

Last week's edition was about Francisco, an Argentinian born and bred Southampton fan. In the upcoming weeks there will be stories of support from New Zealand, Saint Helena and Singapore. If you are a fan living outside the UK, or know of someone, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks again to the original poster for sharing this story!

Cheers,

Trevor F
