macca155 Posted 26 March, 2012 Share Posted 26 March, 2012 Some interesting mind games by Sam...... can't believe players or fans want to hear this on the eve of an important game. Starting to look like the only people who believe Saints might not be promoted are ............ Saints fans. This won't work Sam http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4220741/Sam-Allardyce-The-Championship-title-is-Southamptons.html or http://tinyurl.com/cazcwvn WEST HAM boss Sam Allardyce says Southampton have the Championship title sewn up. The Hammers face a trip to Peterborough on Tuesday before a home game with second-place Reading on Saturday. And Big Sam says it's that second automatic promotion spot that his team is fighting for. He said: "The title's gone now. "I can't see Southampton losing three or four on the trot for us to gain those points back. "We've made life a little easier for them now. They must look back and say 'we never thought we would be this far ahead at this stage' because we were always on their heels. "They must be delighted this morning, the position they're in. "Fair play to them, they've been there all season. We've always been playing catch up.

Giamlarrahan Posted 26 March, 2012 Share Posted 26 March, 2012 His logic astounds me: "So I think now we have to deliver eight clean sheets. If we can deliver eight clean sheets we'll go up automatically." Not if you can't score in any of those games, Sam.

We clearly are going to win the division and only the soppiest sods on heee spend their time fretting about us suddenly losing three in a row. It's not going to happen. There are no mind games happening. We're a gazillion points clear of West Ham who know they are fighting for second. Get over yourslves.

Turkish Posted 27 March, 2012 Share Posted 27 March, 2012 Hang on a minute. He is praising Saints saying how well we've done and how consistent we've been. You were all getting your knickers in a twist about Dean Saunders not saying Saints are the greatest side he's ever come up against on Saturday but when a manager pays us the gushing praise you all demand it's mind games. Is this not the respect and praise you were all demanding from West Ham and everyone else that hasn't lavished praise on this amazing football club? Well done big Sam for recognising what an incredible team we are, a truly great guy gracious and honourable in defeat.

Surely its about tone and emphasis -and it came across as a weird presser (or at least as it was presented) when you consider they've got a massive game tonight. You might not think its a big deal - certainly its not going to stop us from going about our business; but am almost certain NA doesn't appreciate it given his almost puritanical insistence to focus on the 'here and now' and insulate the team from distraction or speculation, a task that's not made easier when headlines such as these get bandied about. That's why you or me aren't managers. Edited 27 March, 2012 by shurlock
bender Posted 27 March, 2012 Share Posted 27 March, 2012 If they dont win tonight, I'll tend to agree with him, and I think by the end of the week both Wham and Reading could realise theyre battling for 2nd. Personally I think that Wham will draw tonight and put everything into Reading at home on Saturday and suddenly theyre in the auto's. What a incentive for us going into the evening game though - a win puts us 8 points clear on both of them with equal games played.

Our points to game ratio must be some sort of record to amass that sort of points tally. Well done NA and the lads for being the first team to amass a gazillion points in a season ....why hasn't the press picked up on this? they must have a massive anti Saints agenda....... MarkSFC Posted 27 March, 2012 Share Posted 27 March, 2012 actually it soundr like one last try to alter our mindset, to attemp for complacency to enter our camp. The man ir pathetic, he has been cracking under the pressure gold and sullivan must put him under to achieve promotion. I'd be amazed if he is their manager come next season and probably not even by the end of this one. Not that i really care about the jumped up arrogant little club. We have NA so no mind games here just success!

corky morris Posted 27 March, 2012 Share Posted 27 March, 2012 Adkins wont fall for that!!! One game at a time, focus on the next game, watch the dvd of the last game etc etc etc. Cant wait for Blackpool!!!!
Cabrone Posted 27 March, 2012 Share Posted 27 March, 2012 He's just stating the current situation. It can't be particularly motivating to his players though, especially as if Wham were to win their next 2 and we slipped up at Blackpool they could get right back in it (highly unlikely IMO). From my perspective I'm delighted to have as negative a manager SA managing one of our rivals. If they get to the prem he would be a good manager to have to fight against but when it comes to having the attacking instincts to get promotion he isn't up to it. You just have to look at their one-up-front timid home form vs their defensive smash and grab away form. SA is only happy when he has to defend something rather than get something. He's a bunker manager, NA is an attacking manager.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 27 March, 2012 Share Posted 27 March, 2012 The two month 'blip' was where I fully expected wet Spam, or some other team, to catch us. They didn't so even in our 'blip' we were better than them! I can see the Hammers actually fecking it up completely, and we know the implications there! My thoughts on final placings? ("Don't shout it too soon" they all said). 1. Saints 2. Reading 3. Blackpool/Brighton 4. Brighton/Blackpool With Brighton winning the playoffs. (They almost kept up with us!). I still expect West Ham to win the next 2 games and become our principal rival for the title again. By the by anyone know if their future parachute payments would be distributed amongst the other NPC clubs in the event of them being promoted this time round? It used to be that way but perhaps it's been changed since the amount ballooned. 32 million split 24 ways wouldn't be so bad for mid table teams now would it !! jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 27 March, 2012 Share Posted 27 March, 2012 i do think west spam will win their next two games which will put a little added pressure on our game at blackpool. however adkins one game at a time philosophy and not under-estimating the opposition will lead us in good stead. we may all have a chuckle at adkins collection of clichés but you can sense the players totally buy into it which is why we have such a great team spirit and work ethic. RobM Posted 27 March, 2012 Share Posted 27 March, 2012 Mind games indeed, on two counts. Firstly, by setting the expectations of WHam themselves. It's the same tactic ol' Saggy Chops uses when he gets a new job, when he starts off by saying how important it is to get new players because the current squad isn't good enough, that anything but relegation will be a success, that sort of nonsense. Sam is doing the same - he thinks that by claiming WHam have no chance of automatic promotion, nobody will be disappointed when that happens. Secondly, by hoping to get to our players and put doubts in their mind, put the pressure on, whatever works. He is counting on the pressure getting to us by saying it's ours to lose. With this and his comments about his own squad, about Lambert, you can't help but think that his efforts should be going to WHam and doing everything he can to win games. The more time he spends with this crap, the better for everyone... other than WHam.
Webby Posted 27 March, 2012 Share Posted 27 March, 2012 It's true what he says though. There's no way in hell they can win the title now. 2nd is the best they can hope for. Looks like they've blown it. I think we only need another 10pts from the remaining games to seal it.
