I was wrong and I'm an idiot....anybody else want to cleanse their soul

Oh go on! I also seem to remember just after NA was appointed that someone (as above wasn't me) said Lambert wouldn't be able to deal with the quick pass and move football we were playing with the ball pinging around him.

I didn' think Lambert was suited to Adkins style of pass and move because he'd been used primarily as a target man by Pardew.

What Rickie has done is to prove me and over 2/3 of the football world wrong.

Especially the clubs who let him go early in his career. At least my assessment didn't send him to a beetroot packing factory!!!!!

I'd like to do one on behalf of Four Four Two magazine, just spotted the season preview as was sorting through a few things, they predicted we would finished tenth and included this quote:

"Given the size of the club, expectant fans will be keen to see the team put in another promotion charge, but that's an added pressure they could do without. Consolidation is the priority."

They obviously didn't count on Adkins' "Pressure makes diamonds" mantra

Can't wait for Delgado to knock in goals left, right and center....

Federico "Torpedo" Arias is just what we need. He'll come in handy....

Andreas Jacobsson will be a quality CB....

Oh, do give over.

I predicted Burley and Poortvilet would be disasters, and I predicted that the best thing in the world that could happen to us was administration.

So, I've called the odd game wrong, and didnt predict P15 W13 D1 L1 at the end of last season (nor did anyone else). Too bad.

"We will finish 16th - 18th in League 1" was a particularly insightful one too.

Posted

Ah, Neil McCann, the final piece in the puzzle.

Under Poortvliet we'll be fine!!!

I don't rate that Kelvin, a liability.

Ricardo Fuller is our best striker.

David Prutton will go far! Quality player.

For mine; naturally there's probably quite a few so amongst those:

Burley being a great appointment.

Getting rid of Pardew a stupid move; replacing him with someone like Adkins even more daft.

Hooiveld a desperate last minute signing for the sake of it once we'd lost our better targets.

Chris Nichol is a mediocre manager at best , we can't do any worse than him and need to change if we are to progress.

I could never have imagined what might unfold after...

By far my worst one was confidently predicting to a mate that the Dutch experiment with the kids would have us playing like Arsenal and be a joy to watch...

My best one was probably saying that Dodd was about to score straight from the corner just before he did  (Ok technically he didn't, but it got me kudos at the time :D)

God, that was another one. I was at college when I heard he'd been sacked, and was delighted. "The new manager is Ian Branfoot". "Er, who?". "Well, he used to be a coach at Crystal Palace". Ok then.

I too thought we were on the way up. I also have to admit to thinking the outstanding candidate for the job was one Harry Redknapp from Bournemouth and when he expressed an interest through the media it seemed a formality.

I often wonder how that might have turned out, playing good football, but he would probably have buggered off to West Ham a couple of years later.(probably had his "spiritual home" speech written already).

You predicted last season that we'd lose in the play offs even when we were 2nd with about 8 games to go.

I predicted we'd end up mid-table this season.

I also reckoned Lallana looked like a hopeless donkey in his first match for us (45 mins in a pre-season friendly vs some Euro team) and would never make the first team.

2. .. Woodward is a great move... agin in mitigation m'lord, teh IDEA of transferable skills, all the sports science stuff etc is sound... but the role was never properly defined and it was never going to work with someone like Harry.. funily enough, could see someone like Adkins working really well with someone like woodward, if the roles were properly defined and Adkins wa sresponsible for first team etc....

Someone should start a thread about this (the amount of times I've tried to 'sign up' but then couldn't figure out the PayPal stuff - is it possible to just pay by card?? - anyway).

IF we go up more people will be scrutinising Adkins and looking for weaknesses (or wanting to grab him). I would think Nicola has an idea of what is needed in the 'Big Time' and having someone deal with transfers, strategy, youth development etc, would be a good idea, I think. Someone with lots of experience, especially international transfers and who isn't a Tool that would interfere or lord it over NA. He/She must not be called 'Director of Football

So, my claim to shame was being 100% behind Woodward, like Frank's Cousin, the idea was good but the timing and personalities were wrong. Now might be the right time, so long as NA is still 'boss'

We already have that.

There were pages of threads about it when AP was here.

How unsettling & divisive it was to have a DoF by "stealth".

It was one of the reasosn cited by some posters for the "breakdown in relations between AP & NC

Getting rid of Pardew will cost us promotion and the League title....... I think I was half right on that one.

Mid table finish this season would be a good achievement for the current squad.... I don't think we've been as low as mid table alll sesaon.

Administration would be an absolute disaster for us !!

Very happy that "Saints go Wilde" !!

Bradley Wright-Phillips would fire us back to the Prem..

Dean Richards was a poor makeweight when we did'nt sign Wetherall !!

But in mitigation I always doubted Burley...;)

Surprised noone has mentioned Skacel yet!

If he eventually signs that will be the first and only time I've been wrong about a Saints player. I said he would never sign and I stand by that.

Bonkers! Really would never have predicted that in my wildest dreams. Turns out we are a better team than I thought and a lot of championship teams weren't as good as I thought they were. Maybe I should tip us to win the PL next year ..............

I don't think you can beat yourself up on that one even mystic Meg wouldn't have predicted a Swiss/German billionire riding to our rescue. Stockport went into admin the same time as us look at where they are now.

I already said that, along with everyone else, I didnt predict our run-in last season. For me thats the same prediction as the one you are trying to be a clever-arse about. If we hadnt had that run-in, Huddersfield would have got the 2nd auto spot.

would be pretty impressive if both saints and brighton go up

Signing a left back from Gillingham hardly a good signing, step up David Peach

Ivan Katalinic will be the best keeper in Division 1.

Ray Wallace will be the best out of all those brothers!

Recently...thought Surman and the one who makes Messi look like ****e were awful after seeing them a couple of times!

I don't use Paypal and I get my subscription renewed automatically each time, don't remember how it works but it's card based.

We were far too good for the Championship in 2005. We would walk that league

We probably were but then Harry left and we got Burley....the rest is history.

If Lowe had sacked Burley when he should have,ie on 21st January 2006 after the most abysmal Saints display I've ever seen, our history would be different.

Posted
You also said Rupert Lowe knew what he was doing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Compared to everybody at Portsmouth, he was!

I reckoned Burley should be given more time, but didn't realise all he was doing was drunkenly digging a hole..

Before the game I thought Bobby Stokes was the one weak link in the side; during the game before he scored I said I would write to him and apologise if he did score.

He did, I didn't, but I don't think he heard me (I was watching on telly).

Sorry, Bobby.

When Palace sold Ian Wright to Arsenal and were linked with Alan Shearer as a replacement but ultimately ended up with Marco Gabbiadini, I seem to recall saying I wish we'd sold them Shearer and got Gabbiadini ourselves. I was mocked and derided by my friends. The time has now come for me to man up and say: "they were right".

I have learnt since then and told anyone who'd listen (and many who didn't want to) that Adkins would be perfect for us, when he was first linked with the job. I like to think I called this one ok...

oh,

I can claim victory on that one.

I consistently predicted 2nd last season, certainly from the halfway mark.
