Super_Uwe Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 As quoted on the OS: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2691546,00.html "I didn't want to rub it in Doncaster's face but obviously I've not played recently so I was delighted to get my goals and disappointed to get booked for high-fiving a little five year-old lad, but that's part of what the referee has got to do." Not being at the game, is that basically what he was booked for? If so that is absolutely shocking!
DT Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 the referee high-fived a little five year old lad? disgraceful
Supersubpuckett Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 Don't think so, ref wouldn't have seen that - probably for celebrating off the pitch and going mental at scoring. Not sure why he got singled out as about half the team joined in. Was a touch harsh.
alpine_saint Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 It seems silly, I agree. Then again, the ref should have booked him when he took his shirt off when scoring for Donny vs. Boro just after Luey passed away, so it seems petty to make a big deal out of it.

Players get fined for picking up yellow cards. I'd be pretty annoyed if i was "fined" for making a little boy's year by giving him a high-five.

I'd be pretty annoyed if i was "fined" for making a little boy's year by giving him a high-five. I quite agree. Don't want to turn it into a rant but it just seems crazy that refs are forced to book players in situations like that rather than use their discretion. I suppose you could argue that players going near the crowd can cause them to surge forward, but even so this particular case really is very harsh. Perhaps when he scores next time round he should just stand still and look thoroughly miserable; at least he won't get punished for any over-exuberance.
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 Going to the crowd is an automatic yellow. I'm not sure the threshold but touching any part of it is probably enough.
Verbal Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 Going to the crowd is an automatic yellow. I'm not sure the threshold but touching any part of it is probably enough. Are you sure? Living next door to Craven Cottage, I can't help notice that their new striker Pogrebnyak is fond of a cuddle with Fulham fans when he scores. Not been booked once.

It is in the rules that doing things like this... ...is a bookable offence. You can't blame the ref for doing as the rules state. Regardless of whether doing this may seem harmless and make a kids day... It is always going to end with this...
Saint Charlie Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 Sory MLG but from those photos what is wrong? Standing in front of the crowd? Not like he has dived in there and is causing havoc.

It doesn't matter. It is still a booking and the referee was right by the rules he is given to work with. I'd guess they don't want players to cause a mass of people rushing to the front of the stand to meet the players, potentially a dangerous situation.

So why is Pogrebnyak at Fulham on 0 yellow cards instead of 5? I just wonder what the rule actually says.
iansums Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 I blame the kid, I reckon he should pay Billy's fine.
Super_Uwe Posted 26 March, 2012 Author Posted 26 March, 2012 I fully accept it is part of the laws of the game, but to be honest the pictures you have posted prove that referees should be given some discretion rather than having to produce an automatic yellow. I am not saying the ref himself was absolutely shocking, just that this particular case is very very harsh.
This Charming Man Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 The bit that I don't understand is you can go and wind up the opposition fans and receive no punishment, yet get booked for celebrating with your own. A truly pathetic and bizarre law.
latter day saint Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 I blame the kid, I reckon he should pay Billy's fine. i blame the Dad. look how he's pushing the poor lad forward against his will. i've a good mind to phone Social services
eurosaint Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 TBF, the boy looks at least 6 ! (not that I am an expert on little boys you understand!)
doddisalegend Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 Never mind the kid whats the bloke in the black jacket trying to do seems desperate for a bit of Billy's man love ............
Fan The Flames Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 I hope that child has been reported for doing a Nazi salute in the ground... I think you will find its the dad forcing him into doing the Nazi salute and yes he has been reported to the authorities.
Fuengirola Saint Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 i blame the Dad. look how he's pushing the poor lad forward against his will. i've a good mind to phone Social services Exactly, i think it made that dads day more than the little nippers.
Lets B Avenue Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 I think you will find its the dad forcing him into doing the Nazi salute and yes he has been reported to the authorities. And they probably left before the final whistle.
Bearsy Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 What was Billy supposed to do, blank the little kid calling for a high-5? It's bloody ridiculous! Those 30 seconds after a goal's scored are sacred and anything Billy wanted to do shy of pulling Cork's shorts down and rimming him on the field of play is totally fine with me!
once_bitterne Posted 26 March, 2012 Posted 26 March, 2012 I's imagine that was much the same look as the one Barnard gave the bloke who spilt his drink in Wetherspoon's.
