West Ham - mind the gap

On the way back from yesterday's game I had the radio on and I'm sure they someone made a picture of maybe the West ham station with mind the gap super imposed on it , I guess photoshopped somehow.

Have I miss understood or has anyone seen the picture . Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick.. I have had a few jars since then!!

Amazed that some Saints fans still have this outlook despite what Adkins and Cortese have done with our club.

What?? All that would take is for West Ham to beat P'boro and Reading and for us to lose to Blackpool (perfectly possible).

I agree it'll be 3 points. Lots of twists yet. At least three of our resident bedwetters will write us off as soon as we drop points.

It's far from over yet, as I'm sure you'll agree. The complacency creeping into our fanbase has been slightly cringeworthy, thankfully Nigel will ensure none of the players feel the same way.

I have faith in Nigel.

So sure the pressure of last season when we couldn't afford a single slip up during the final three months and dealing with it , will help us mentally this season.

Dealing with pressure is all in the mind.

Rather have Nige than FatSam. Simples.

We might lose to Blackpool (personally, I am going for the draw)

WHU might beat Peterboro (but then again, they could lose - Peterboro are one of those awkward bastard teams who if they turn up in right frame of mind, can beat anybody)

WHU might beat Reading (personally, I think the opposite is far more likely)

I would be very surprised if the "gap" is down to 3 points Saturday evening, but then again I think this whole thread is misplaced smug complacency...

We have to keep doing our thing. End of.

probably the most accurate cliche ever said.

"Control the Controllables"

And we should be Champions IMHO

Think what has happened of late is that up to Xmas

We Hoped we would go up but Believed we would fall apart and maybe get a playoff place

Now I think we Believe we will go up and Hope we don't get a play off place

I think it is great that we don't have the arrogance of WHU fans this time (Or let's be fair our own arrogance as we got into the playoffs under Burley)

get to the bookies then - Saints were 1/6 to win league Sat evening. WH and Reading were 9/1 and 5/1 respectively

Hmmm....whilst I still expect us to win the league, those odds are tempting as covering bets...

I wonder what the odds are now on Saints not getting promoted via the auto spots?

At least we haven't booked 2 boats for a promotion party.

One of your best posts!

I don't understand all the gesture and guessing - what's the point? So long as we keep picking up points, who cares - we can only keep doing that, it's in our hands.

The way West Ham are stumbling along I think 6 points away to Posh and home to Reading is highly unlikely.

Teams don't generally perform 180 degree turns in form just like that.

Posh will be no pushovers at their place (2nd highest home scorers) and Reading have a decent away form (whilst Wham's home form is mediocre at best).

Besides which, it's not as if Wham have been unlucky getting all their recent draws.

A fair few of them were last minute salvage jobs rather than them being pinned back in the last minute.

I think a draw at Posh and a draw\loss to Reading is a much more accurate prediction than 2 wins.

The odds of both West Ham and Reading catching and then overtaking us with 7 games left have got to be pretty big!!!

Basically West Ham need to make up about one point per game now - that's a bloody big ask, especially given their recent form. Winning all their remaining games might well not be enough.

Agreed entirely. Your comment about P'Borough rings true too and hopefully playing WHam, a team that used to be top of the table (see what I did there...) will inspire them to bring their A-Game.

The last matched bet on Betfair for Southampton to Finish in the top 2 was 1.2 or 1to5 in old money, making auto promotion an 80% chance,I know anything can happen but the betfair market is pointing towards the Prem for SFC.

Especially considering we're cantering along at 2.75 points per game over the last 8 games....

Although the gap will be 3 points come 10pm Saturday...

Yes Wham are gonna win their next 2 games despite not being able to win for ages and despite my Burnley mate telling me Wham were nervous and poor on Saturday. They'll draw tomorrow and beat Reading putting them 2nd and Saints 5 points clear of both of them. What an incentive for beating Blackpool - could be 8 pts clear of both with Pompey at home to come.
