Keeper - next season ??

KD is not good from crosses and distribution is poor. Fortunately our tactics of playing the ball short out of defence disguises a weakness of him trying to find a target by going long. Shot stopping he is great at times. I think he will get another season and his performances judged then

His distribution is not poor. FFS, do you actually watch? You reckon he can't find a target? FFS!!!! When he kicks it to Lambert it goes straight to his head 9 times out of 10 and is usually hit quite flat making it more dangerous, rather than being a big floaty one that is hard to direct. His distribution is as accurate as any Saints 'keeper I can remember. He's not great at kicking from hand but he rarely does.

If he has a dodginess to his distribution it is that he occasionally takes a bit of a risk but I think Nigel is happy to tolerate that as part of our approach to building the play.

To say his long kicks lack accuracy is just plain wrong.

Sentiment in life in general is great, in Football it can be very damaging. Saints must sign

another goalkeeper who is good enough for European competition not just PL standard.

Outfield players can make mistakes without penalty but GKs can't, they usually result in

goals against.

why..?

Brum not going up should really mean Ben Foster should be a long term target for the club (he is loaned out to West Brom just to get prem football).

Bit undecided about Kelvin in the prem, he's had a much better season this year (cut out may of the near post beatings that have made me so frustrated with him in the years gone by) but we can't just give him no. 1 without any competition, which after that Blackpool game (and cup games this season) has gone from Bart.

I don't understand anyone who is saying that we shouldn't be considering bringing in a new keeper. Right now, we have one excellent keeper, who is having the best season of his career. However Kelvin is 35, which is when most keepers start fading. Sure he is showing no signs of it yet (he seems better than ever to me), but he has at most 2 seasons left at this level. I strongly think we should start next season with KD wearing the number 1 shirt.

However, does anyone actually think Bart has what it takes to step up if needed? Forcast? It's fairly obvious that whatever division we are in next season we will need to have a new keeper brought in.

The only debate I can see is whether we buy a backup option or buy a keeper to challenge for the starting position. From the evidence of the purchases we have seen in every other position, our management will only consider bringing a player who is competing for the place. I can't see them settling for a backup, they will be looking for someone of at least equal quality. In fact, when was the last time we brought in a 'backup'? Forte? Murty?

Due to Kelvin's age, this new keeper will almost certainly be much younger, probably between 24 and 28. He will be playing at a level similar to Kelvin, but will be considered to have the potenial to eclipse him. Who knows which country this keeper is currently playing in - all I do know, is our scouting system must be keeping their eyes peeled, and may even be actively looking.

NB, I doubt someone like Kaspar would want to warm our bench.
