scotty Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Hardly unexpected from such a fine physical specimen, but very sad just the same. I remember watching the darts all those years ago, Jocky, Bristow et al.....and what was the name of that old grinder who did the nine dart checkout live on tv? John something? Good link too stockport, apparently dexys were made up with the mistake and it also reminds me of that "Not the nine'o clock news" sketch where they were sinking the booze instead of the arrows hahahaa

eurosaint Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 He had a sad life old Jocky, couldn't really take the limelight and eventually became a recluse ! A bit of a forerunner to Susan Boyle except that she had a much more dedicated support system ! RIP Jocky.
dune Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 62 - thought he would have been older than that because he looked that when he was on bullseye.

norwaysaint Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Reminds me of that classic moment on Top of the Pops. Dexy's Midnight Runners had asked the BBC bloke for a picture of soul legend Jackie Wilson for their backdrop...

JackFrost Posted 26 March, 2012 Share Posted 26 March, 2012 Was a sad day for darts. His battles with Bristow in the 80s were pure box office. Sad the way he ended up but he openly acknowledged he was his own worst enemy in some ways. One of darts' greatest characters though. I'll never forget one incident when he was playing some really slow player, and about 15 mins into the game he walked off stage, got a chair from the crowd and sat on it on stage whilst the other guy was throwing
Baldsaint Posted 26 March, 2012 Share Posted 26 March, 2012 I played Jocky at Oches darts club in an exhibition in about 1984, he was very, very drunk. He had drunk, by the end of the evening, at least 30 pints of strongbow. Got a bit lippy whilst signing autographs at the end, came across as a bit of a git all round unfortunately. Still a legend though. Oh, I lost.
