scotty Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Doncaster manager Dean Saunders said: "The ref cost us the game. He gave them a corner which was never a corner. They scored from the corner. It was a mistake for the second goal. "It's disappointing we lost points against a top of the league side. "I think it's typical we sold Sharp to Southampton and then he scores two goals against us. He came back to haunt us." Miserable prat. What was he expecting, Sharp to go easy on them rather than doing his best for the club thats paying his wages? And I suppose the couple of million quid Donny got from the deal was meaningless, was it? Nobody forced them to sell him. And why is it any more disappointing to lose points against a top of the league side than a bottom of the league side? Surely it would be more expected, thus less disappointing. Graceless pillock. CB Fry Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Jesus Christ. More ridiculous preciousness over an opposing manager's post match comments. Everything Saunders said sounds fair enough to me. What do you expect people to say? "Well done to the super dooper saints. They are my favourite team ever"
scotty Posted 25 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 25 March, 2012 No, but moaning about selling a player then having him score against you is ridiculous imo.

Graceless pillock. well what do you expect from the manager of a bottom of the table side ? He's no Nigel Adkins - is he ? for me it's more fun listening to " Big Sam's" continual bleatings about why West Ham can't put all three points in the bag every game. Fan The Flames Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 I don't think he is moaning about selling Sharp, he is just saying that Sharp has lived up to the myth of scoring against your old club.
Saint Martini Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Coaches blaiming a loss on a corner that perhaps shouldn't have been given is ridiculous straw clutching. Penalty decisions, red card decisions and perhaps freekicks just outside the penalty area are big decisions you can use to blame a loss on. Can you imagine a manager blaming a draw on a corner that wasn't given? I can understand a manager protecting his team from media scrutiny, that's their job. But this just sounds silly and desperate and has the opposite effect.
scotty Posted 25 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Plus, who was it clattered right through one of ours over near the tunnel in the first half? That looked like a straight red to me from block 6, he got away with a yellow.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 The OP is overreacting to a perfectly understandable response from Dean Saunders. Without wishing to get too far ahead of ourselves, it's quite possible we all might be saying exactly the same kind of thing if Theo Walcott, Alex Chamberlain, or Gareth Bale do it to us next season. I love the first paragraph especially the bit "....except for the scorelines." Now let me see, isn't that the whole point of a football match, scoring more than the other team ? You can hear the smack of desperation to keep their fans onside from here.

It's not even true, either. "Thoroughly dominated" would suggest a hammering, but it's not even that. The stats look pretty equal to me, just in favour of Whammers a tad. scotty Posted 25 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Hang on. Is complaining about decisions "graceless" or not then? I wasn't so much annoyed by that as by his comment about Sharp. I was pointing out that he was also moaning about a corner he reckons shouldn't have been given while ignoring a previous poor decision that meant they still had 11 men on the pitch. Agree especially the shots on goal bit, which must be quite important by all accounts, even though I don't have a BA in analysis like their performance director does! david in sweden Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Agree especially the shots on goal bit, which must be quite important by all accounts, even though I don't have a BA in analysis like their performance director does! if there were awards for the " most shots on goal " ..then David McGoldrick (remember him?)....would have won the Golden Boot in his last season with us. It's the ones that cross the line that count ....(well, almost ..except those the ref. doesn't see!)
Graffito Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 There's nothing in the comments about Sharp but the referee patently did not cost them the game.
Victor Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Obviously didn't get his B.A. (Hons) in logic and clearly shows that performance analysis counts for nothing. West Ham can dispense with his services and spend the money on coaches who can help them turn possession into goals and teach them how to defend properly. Nexstar Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 The ref didn't kick the ball in the goal, your team's lack of defending ability cost you the game, Dean.

ottery st mary Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 To be fair to West Ham and bIG bAD dAFT sAM... The blame lies with Saints...IF , we had only sold Rikeee to them:rolleyes: They would have walked this league... Dean Saunders went to the same coaching/moaning courses as Sam the whiner;) Saints are world class:smug:
VectisSaint Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 is this really worth a post??? manager of losing team complains about decisions, not really a headline grabber is it?? This. Seems fairly standard response from losing manager to me, especially when a player scores against his old team. I would have said something similar if Gillett had scored for them yesterday. EastleighSoulBoy Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Saunders is really only expressing his opinion, which he's entitled to. We have been spoiled, of late, by having a manager who keeps his own counsell and refuses to be drawn on contentious issues. Just for information, I sit in the Chapel and the ball went out just in front of me. Saunders may have seen it differently but the ball most definitely went out off of a Donny player. sperm_john Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 you would of thought after doing a couple of season in the lower leagues we would have a thicker skin than this, when did we all turn in to arsenal fans moaning about everything, even moaning about people going home a couple of mins early, seriously live and let live, we are top of table and like adkins says lets just focus on ourselves

derry Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 He should hardly be criticising a referee who ignored a GBH push inside the area on Lambert or didn't consult a linesman after SDR was felled by a follow through feet up assault which looked as deliberate as it gets. It could have been a penalty then 10 men.
Bensfcno1 Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Will you moan at me if I say 'bloody typical that Kevin Phillips scores against us next Saturday?' think he was just making a comment rather than moaning about it! It would be annoying if it was in reverse, it's typical of the luck a bottom of the table team get compared to top of the league teams get! Although this isn't always coincidence as I believe you make your own luck!
