King Kenny

Lots of football fans really do think like this don't they. Jesus.

RH had Dalgleish in the background, the fans not showing any support, little in the way of funds, an injured Gerrard, a disgruntled Torres. He would have been criticised for selling Torres, but it's fine for KD. He got criticised for dropping Carragher, but it clearly needed doing.

KG has an absolute fortune to spend, the full backing of every supporter and player and more importantly, TIME. A season and a half, plenty of time to assess, and he'd already been in the background for ages, knows the club inside out, had a few transfer windows. Big changes, huge outlays, and poor results. Worse still, erratic results, with little indication it will get better long term. A cup win in a competition many clubs didn't seem to care about, victorious because a playoff side from the championship couldn't score penalties.

No offence really, but nothing better highlights the sheer ignorance of basing opinions on win ratios.

So how else do you want to judge a Manager?

Trophy's? Hodgson was the first Liverpool manager since before Bill Shankly to not win one.

Away results? Hodgson won 1 away league game as Liverpool Manager.

Cup? Hodgson became the first Liverpool Manager to lose a cup game to a 4th tier outfit in the whole of their history.

Signings? Danny Wilson, Brad Jones , Paul Konchesky , Christian Poulsen , Joe Cole , Raul Meireles, he may not have had the £'s KD had, but he wasted money.

The post I was responding to was one that claimed KD had done worse than Hodgson. So I'll ask you, in what measurable way was Hodgsons record better?

KD has got an average record since his return, anyone else would have got the bullet by now. But, that does not make Roy Hodgson's record any better. It was even worse than that.

Although the sports now was saying that they might well go for a young upcoming manager rather than someone from the old guard :(

By which they surely mean someone like Martinez, rather than someone untested in any top division? The Scouse fans would never wear it.

They're all going for Rafa on here;

And it's this kind of mentality which p1sses so many people off. F()cking arrogant weirdos;

Theres only one person for me and he lives about 3 miles away.

No Martinez, No Brendan Rogers, no ****e please. Someone who gets the club and is one of the mosy tactically astute managers in Europe.

Gutted for Kenny. But I said it wold end this way.

Still a legend.

and....

If they approach Brendan Rogers, Roberto Martinez or Paul Lambert, I will be absolutely ****ing fuming.

I feel like we are deliberately being asset stripped of personnel. It really doesn't follow any logic.

and...

"Quote from: rowan_d on Today at 04:40:12 PM

Realistic and ideal: Rafa

Realistic and not ideal: Martinez and Lambert

Realistic and undecided: Rodgers

Unrealistic and ideal: Klopp"

Agree with that.

Who would seriously suggest Lambert/Rodgers for the job ?? Who next Pardew ??!!??

Morons.

Spot on, Lord D.

I'm reading the scouse forum at the moment as it goes.

They have some rather colourful posters on there. So far, a lot of them want Rafa. Some have even mentioned that he is local. How is that really relevant? Surely any incoming manager would move to the area? :)

Some want Klopp, but many have said that's unrealistic.

Many of them consider Martinez, Rogers and Lambert to be flavour of the month managers.

Interestingly, David Dein has been hired as a consultant at LFC. FSG are basically having a complete clear-out at the moment. I've a sneaking suspicion that this has been in planning for months, and that they already know who their new management team is going to be.

LOL

brendan rogers says NO THANKS

Why did they even ask? Surely not proved himself sufficiently at Premier League level yet.

On a personal level, Rodgers' departure from Watford to Reading was a disaster, which he well remembers. The grass isn't always greener. Brendan has lost both his parents in the last year but incredibly got Swans to 11th. Everyone knows the second season is much harder. Probably challenge enough for BR right now.

Strange move from Liverpool really. Also need a DOF and several other roles. Sounds like chaos to me.

As I said on the other thread, if Liverpool are looking at Rodgers and Martinez, they'd be mental not to look at Nige. He's won more than both put together.

Not really. A successful year in the Prem will always count for more than anything Adkins has done to date.

Winning is winning. Standard of opposition is always a factor, but Nige didn't manage back-to-back promotions just because he wasn't playing Premiership opposition. The bloke has a history of over-achievement - how many of us really thought we'd be in the Prem this year? Our run at the end of last season that kept Huddersfield at bay was immense.

The noises coming out of FSG indicate they want a young, talented manager. Their MD went on record yesterday denying that they were only considering top level managers. Reports today suggest the shortlist could contain twelve candidates. The truth is that neither of us know what their selection criteria are. So far, the names being bandied about range from respected relegation specialists like Robert Martinez all the way up to Pep "leave me the f*ck alone for a year" Guardiola.

The club got into hot water today for tweeting fans about their opinions for a new manager, although they claimed it was for a fun feature (quite why they are expecting fun out of the mourning Dalglish lovers is beyond me).

Whatever. Twelve candidates looks like a scattergun approach to me. If their aim is to get 4th, then Martinez, Rodgers are absolute gambles too - and they're talking to them.

I don't really disagree with anything you say, but my point still stands. It'll be an interesting appointment whoever they go for.

On this I certainly agree. Scattergun was the very word that came to my mind too.

In today's article on the Beeb Brendan Rodgers 'no' to Liverpool talks but Roberto Martinez in frame it states

Owners Tom Werner and John W Henry are based in the United States, while the Reds are also looking for a director of football, a chief executive and a director of communications.

Surely they need to get the DoF in first?!! If all the CE / DoF candidates have reservations about the manager appointment, what then?

There's enough here to suggest that behind the scenes turmoil will produce a really poor outcome next year as well. LOL :)

From the outside, does seem like a bit of a clusterf*ck, but probably worth remembering that these guys aren't the latest sheik to roll into town. Managing big sports clubs is their business, and to me at least, this looks like the implementation of plan A more than anything else. These guys have never really had their own man in.

As Sour Mash says, it's going to be an interesting appointment.
