rshephard3 Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 What about if you have a very ill relative and you want to get home asap? Seems unlikely this was the case for around 5000 people today. Look, I don't live, breathe, sleep Saints. I have a season ticket, go to 5/6 aways a season and feel this is enough time/money to dedicate to such a hobby. But on a sunny day, strengthening a grip on a premiership place for next season, barring something like you mention there is no reason to leave before the final whistle. Surely Saints are deserving of being clapped off by the WHOLE crowd at home this season, they're on the verge of successive promotions afterall. SaintBobby Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 What about if you have a very ill relative and you want to get home asap? Well, in those circumstances, not all things are equal. I've left early twice in about 250 home games. Once because the trains back to London were insanely f**ked on the day and I absolutely had to be back by 8pm for family reasons. Once because I had to make a flight or something. But I'm pretty sure the overwhelming majority are just "beating the traffic." Either that or Saints fans have a jaw-droppingly disproportionate number of very sick relatives...
markr27 Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 What winds me up are the ones that stand at the top of the stairs so others can't see. This happened a few times today - people stopping in their tracks walking down the aisles because Saints were on the attack, thus blocking the view. If you have made the decision to leave, please keep moving (at least to the entrance to the steps/concourse!)
ben05 Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 Would never wave a season ticket, but did chant this. With 80/85 on the clock around 5000 fans had gone! Our boys have put in so much, the least we can do is clap them off. I wonder how many people will leave early at the Coventry game?

Sour Mash Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 Stupid song, but they've got a point. I've never (including Old Trafford etc), seen a home support shift out the ground early when winning as you do at St Marys. Having said that, the club could look at exiting the stands quicker, particularly the Northam, it really ain't clever.

Saint Troy Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 I would never leave, my dad would kill me. Loved not being one if those who left in one of my earlier games, an fa cup game bs Bolton where we really turned it around. That said I pay exactly the same as everyone else for a ticket and it couldn't be less of my business how people use their ticket and think that others should respect that as well. Well done for all people spending money to support the team in whatever way you can afford money and time wise. Yes a clap for the players at the end is great and I enjoy it but ad long as people dont spoil my view then good on em for being there at all

Saint_DB Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 I have never left earlier than FT. 1 - The players work very hard to please us and deserve my attention during the game and my recognition at FT. 2 - I have paid for 90 minutes, so I will watch it. 3 - I am scared I will miss a goal either way, which could make for an important and tense final period. Having said that, during one game in League One last season I actually waited for the HT whistle to go for a pasty. The queue was so long I missed two goals by Saints in the first two minutes of the second half. I think one was from Jose Fonte, but I can't remember who it was against! The Kraken Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 Of course they do. I remember in the MK Dons game last year with 5 minutes to go a player went down injured and in the break that followed a few of the players including Lambert looked round at the stands with expressions that said "What the f*ck?" as the aisles were full of people leaving. Wow. You're a brilliant mind reader to know for certain what they were thinking from that far away. Go you.

st.sj Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 Pathetic that so many people are actually bothered about when people leave the ground. I always leave five minutes early because that is the difference between getting stuck in traffic for half an hour and being able to get straight away on my 90 mile plus journey home. Maybe you would all like a "I always stay to the end" badge You can all have a secret handshake and puff your chest out at each other, to prove you are members of the "I stay to the end club". Very strange.

cdvdtz Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Would much rather people didn't leave, but I think a lot of people here just enjoy moaning. If we have a 22,000 attendance, you question why there were 10,000 empty seats. If we sell out, you berate the extra 10,000 who turned up. What exactly do you want? It's hardly going to encourage the extra fans to come if they're going to have season ticket-waving and chanting directed at them when they do turn up. westy Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 I was sat in the Chappel and a man and (what I presume) his son (aged about 12) got up and walked towards the aisle. I was sat in the way so they asked me to move and I said "oh, I never heard the final whistle go", to which the response I got from the adult was "We're beating the traffic you pr1ck!" If you were that man, sat block 18, row C, do us a favour and learn some manners before returning to St. Mary's (He was constantly moaning throughout the game, taking Lambert off was "clueless" and Sharp "should have shot earlier" for the second goal) I'm pretty sure you come across as the ***** in the above scenario. westy Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 To be fair Mikey, i heard it from the Doncaster fans first ;p that was on 38mins when there was quite a lot of people going downstairs. The streams of people leaving 85mins+ is nothing short of disgraceful. I actually sit there embarrassed, looking around seeing so many people heading for the exit. I fully appreciate its a fecking nightmare getting out of the ground when there is a big crowd and then you get stuck in all the traffic too...yes its annoying, but there is no way in hell i would leave a few minutes early just to save myself 20 mins further down the line. To all those people who leave early - Have you ever thought of what our players think when they see half the crowd leaving before the end? Its shocking and those particular people need to have a proper good look at themselves. On a more positive note though, yet another cracking day to be a Saints fan! Jebus are you serious? You're worried about what people who get paid thousands think about whether some people leave early or not which is entirely at their own discretion? Maybe you could get some sort of super fan badge to mark you out as special because you'll always stay to the end of every game for ever regardless of whatever personal circumstance you have going on just to clap of some millionaries. westy Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 And one more sorry, this seems to split quite clealy the uber fans/uber ****s, non understanding ****wits versus people who are able to think for themselves and understand the concept of empathy and worrying whether some mercenary who gets paid £1m a year notices whether you leave before full time or not. SNSUN Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 I always wondered, a reverse of this topic perhaps, but how long could I sit rooted in my seat for after a game, before the stewards started getting tetchy? Jack Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 surely, people can leave when the fuk they like..? Mattio Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Whilst I don't see the point in chanting this at your own fans, I do agree it's a bit of bad form to leave before the end, especially if you're winning at home, but if you want to you pay for your ticket. You could sit facing the wall in the loos all the match if you want.
shurlock Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Solution is simple. Turn off the TVs in the concourses which are showing the game (or at least, turn them off with 10 mins to go) - surefire, if slightly OTT way to keep people in their seats. dubai_phil Posted 25 March, 2012 Share Posted 25 March, 2012 Meh, some people want to leave early. So what - fine. BUT IF you are going to leave early THEN FECK OFF AND GO. Don't be an ignorant **** leave your seat and then slide oh so slowly out the exit - pretending that you are leaving and yet really standing watching the game. THERE ARE STILL AROUND 200 FANS WHO CANNOT SEE THROUGH YOU and are STILL WATCHING THE GAME. Now THAT annoys the hell out of me. I sit with my mates in the Chapel & the last 10 minutes I can see sod all. They have seats in Row N near an exit I can choose to sit on my own higher up so I can watch the last 10 mins, but the WHOLE point of going back to SMS is to be there sharing the experience - WITH MATES. Want to leave early? Fine - BUGGER OFF THEN. Stewards should be much more "aware" that these people are in everyone elses way - that makes those that leave early then stands there (at least 75% of them) - Selfish Cocks

Oi you want to leave then fecking leave... Oi Steward - get them out of here... HTH The problem is not about leaving early, it is about standing up, walking SLOWLY down the aisle while watching the game THEN hanging around the actual exit tunnel. Do one OR the Other. Oh and No, it isn't possible to "Just stand up" there are people who take KIDS in the stand - so IF the grown ups stand up the Kids see sod all.
