Thoughts on De Ridder

Not convinced about De Ridder, flatters to deceive.

reminds me a bit of Tommy Jenkins and even, for the real oldies, John Sydenham.

Lots of pace and trickery but not always an end product

Having seen all the names players, I wonder just WHO you are making comparisons with ?

Genuine left wingers..good or indifferent ..are quite rare, and we have indeed had a motley crop over several decades...but I really think it is getting close to the bone to criticise John Sydenham 400+ games in a 12 year period...either suggests that Ted Bates couldn't find anyone better during that entire time ..or didn't bother to look !

One-footed... he certainly was, Yes - he might have scored more goals, but undoubtedly his speed and trickery was the best I can recall in a Saints shirt .

Look at the crosses for Ron Davies' demolition of MU at Old Trafford. On You Tube.

De Ridder is good with the pace and trickery but his crossing needs to DRASTICALLY improve.

It must be said he has been a disappointment! signed as the replacement for OXO I am sure he was expected to provide the pace and trickery that unlocked defences and was expected to be an autimatic start. It did not really happen though and he has been restrcted to the odd game and a number of usually late substitute appearences.

Mike! Behave yourself, please. I think your memory is failing you, if you think that SDR and JS can be mentioned in the same sentence.

Oh, I see it now, you were just taking the ****!

Used to love seeing John Sydenham fly down the left wing as a kid. Alays used to stand to the right of Archers goal so saw TP much more. If either of them were in our current team Rickie Lambert would have scored a shed load more goals. Quality both!

Good post and so right.

Amen to that Winner.

what a pity that TV technique wasn't available then - as now. I'd love to see a few minutes of the in-form Sydenham and Paine from that period again.

However, with the 4-1 win over Man.Utd. clip on U-Tube, you do get to see John S. at his very best.
