Crazy Diamond Posted 24 March, 2012 Share Posted 24 March, 2012 I know there's a fair few Weller fans on here. Just wondered what the consensus is on his latest 'effort' entitled 'Sonik Kicks'. I have to say, I saw him live in Brighton in about 2006 or 2007 after 'As Is Now' was released and it was a pretty good performance, but after then my love for him tailed off. I've even fallen out of love with The Jam a bit since I first started listening to them in 2005 and believe me, I was mad about them. '22 Dreams' was alright, good few tracks on it but then 'Wake Up the Nation' killed any lingering affection for Weller and his music stone dead. So, 'Sonik Kicks'. I was reluctant to give him another chance after the last album, but with nothing to do tonight, checked it out on Spotify. Thank the Lord for streaming music you don't have to pay for, as I would have felt ripped off (again) had I bought this and given it a chance (like I did with 'The Sound of the Jam' as a 16 year old). The opening 30 seconds to a minute of the opening track sounds fantastic and made me wonder if he'd got it right. Then he opens his mouth and it just turns to ****. Personally, I think it's crap. More crap from someone who was at one time, incredibly gifted. As I say, I'm just thankful I didn't pay to listen. So what does everyone else think?
