Saint Garrett Posted 23 March, 2012 Posted 23 March, 2012 Nice article with Billy regarding what happened with his son. A good read. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/mar/23/billy-sharp-southampton-doncaster?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+theguardian%2Ffootball%2Frss+%28Football%29
andymcrowe Posted 23 March, 2012 Posted 23 March, 2012 According to twitter he was driving in southampton and saw a Donny fan with a Sharp 10 shirt, so stopped and high fived him.
sfc4prem Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 What a guy, that guardian article hits hard. Such a strong character to pull through that.
LGTL Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Really sad that. I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping he becomes a massive success here.
Brizzie Saints Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 The hardest thing any parent has to deal with. Good onya billy.
Grassmole Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 I have had nightmares about how I would feel if anything happened to my little boy. Billy's strength to go on is inspirational and testament to his character. It would have destroyed me, I'm so proud to have you at our club Billy, your son's spirit will live on through you.
cdvdtz Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Good that he's not dwelling on some of the vile abuse thrown his way by a minority as well.
trousers Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Tears in my eyes as I type this. Emotional stuff.
dubai_phil Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Tears in my eyes as I type this. Emotional stuff. ditto
Badger Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Really sad that. I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping he becomes a massive success here. Agree, if anyone deserves the break here, Billy Sharp does.
Dr Who? Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Very sad, and with a baby and 2 other kids, this scares me the most. He will score today and go from strength to strength.
Huffton Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 This interview kind of ties in with what I was told earlier in the week about why Billy isn't playing much. Without going into too much detail as its quite personal, there were several clubs in for him, it was Nige that persuaded him to come here, and the support the club have offered him while he continues to try and get over losing Luey.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Diggers, on the match build up thread, has said Billy will be starting today vs Donny. No idea if true, obviously, but sure he was the poster who claimed to know Billy (or someone who does). Hope it's true and the game which really kickstarts Billy's career at SMS. Lambert & Sharp could be awesome...
dune Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Nigel adkins talks about billy here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17412259 And I concur with the comments on here. He seems a genuinely nice bloke and he'll come good.
Graffito Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Good lad Billy. I hope he plays today and we can all get behind him and help him score.
david in sweden Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 ...considering all that he (and his wife) have gone through in the last 12 months, I'm pleased to see that he has had the chance to make a new start and that Adkins is not banging the table demanding more from him just now. He has more faith in (Billy - the player) than many of our fans seem to have. I think that - one day (sooner or later), he'll wake up one morning and really get it into gear, and he'll be a sensation AND ..if it's not until we get into the Premiership, then it'll be all the more of a surprise to some of his critics.
RobM Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 A really moving but great article. I think it's only right to link to the LJS Foundation page, just in case anybody wants to donate having read that: http://www.ljsfoundation.org.uk/
Psycrow Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Yeah, welled up a couple of times reading this earlier and had to stop each time. My own little girl playing in front of me. Don't know how lucky we are. I can't begin to imagine what they're still going through. He's dealt with it all so bravely and with such dignity. I really hope he goes on to be a success at our club.
patred44 Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 I just wonder if we have under estimated the effect it had on him, maybe NA's softly softly treatment towards him explains his lack of of games. Heart wrenching experience for him and his partner.
CWD Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Billy was my favourite non saints player in the Championship before he joined, and this article just adds to my respect for him. I'd love him to be a massive success here, he deserves it, and I think he will be.
thorpie the sinner Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Really pleased for Billy to get a start and to get a brace! Legend for what he has been through! Hopefully his saints career will be kickstarted from today!

S-Clarke Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Couldn't be more pleased for him. Hopefully that kick starts his career here because if he now gets on a scoring run they might as well give us the trophy now.
Saint137 Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 My partner has been through similar, losing a 3yo to cancer. Ten years on and she's still getting over it and I doubt she ever will. Its the one thing that should never have to happen a parent, I can't begin to believe how she's still here, her strength of character is inspirational and amazing. I wouldn't wish the loss of a child on my worst enemy, there is nothing worse in the world. What Billy has done is amazing but I hope we take care of him, it will get worse for him before it gets better.

It is an experience I couldn't imagine how i would cope with. It puts everything in life into stark perspective. Tears here again. Soppy old sod Trousers
Avenue Saint Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 As the game went on, his touch improved more and more. By the end of it, he looked to be dragging their players all over the place. Much pleased!
ant Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Very moving article; he's a big man. Supremely pleased with his performance today. May I suggest that #saintsfc fans wishing to say "thank you" to Billy for today's performance show support for the Luey Jacob Sharp Foundation? No effort involved, just have to send a text message with the chosen amount. http://ljsfoundation.org.uk/
lordswoodsaints Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 I had a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat when he scored his first today, really pleased for him,he deserves a bit of a break.

I've been through a similar experience and it just leaves you 100% defenseless against an article as the one about Sharp. Every inch of cynicism has involuntarily been replaced with empathy. I really enjoyed Sharp's two goals today...
fareham saint phil Posted 24 March, 2012 Posted 24 March, 2012 Respect to Billy Sharp for the courage he has shown, sad to read, makes you realise how lucky you are to have healthy kids
