Dr Who? Posted 23 March, 2012 Share Posted 23 March, 2012 (edited) Has anyone got a memory of us winning the league? I know we were runners up when we were last promoted to top flight. We were runners up and achieved our best ever league position in 1983/84 (typo first time) Again we were runners up last season. This season we are in a great position for promotion, and have. Great chance to win the league. So runners up to spurs, Liverpool, and Brighton, now this time runners up to Reading or West Ham, or are we going to see this through? I know we won the southern league, but that was in the 50/60's? Edited 23 March, 2012 by Dr Who? Typo on date we came runners up.

Matthew Le God Posted 23 March, 2012 Share Posted 23 March, 2012 Has anyone got a memory of us winning the league? Have to go back to 1960 for that. We were runners up and achieved our best ever league position in 1982/83. Was 1983/84 that Saints came 2nd in the 1st tier. I know we won the southern league, but that was in the 1950/60's? They were in the Football League in the 1950's and 1960's. Joined the Football League in 1920. Saints Southern League titles are all from the 1890's to the very early 1900's. Still, this is why I think most saints fans have this preconception that we will not win the league. Would be great to keep hold of the top spot, just so we can sing Champions just the once! Dr Who? Posted 23 March, 2012 Author Share Posted 23 March, 2012 35 years in the top flight. 1966 to 1974 and 1978 to 2005 I am doing a sky sports, and Saints history did not start until after I was born lol. 27 years in top flight, if we were like WBA and teams that have been up and down, we might have won more league titles. Pretty constant really.
