Staplewood

Jesus christ, that must be costing them tens of millions.

Think it puts them into the big time though. Building infrastructure as well as paying big wages now. I can see them being Madrid/Barca standard for years to come now. Not just a pompey/Malaga style firework of success, then back to being a nobody.

Totally agree. The mega rich owners are going the right way about building a dynasty.

Saints Twitter says that the U21 match v Spurs on Monday has now been switched from SMS to Staplewood, because there's a game at SMS the following evening (v Sheff W).

Anyone know if you can go along to watch the U21 game at Staplewood, and if there's a charge to get in? Was thinking of going along to see how Staplewood is progressing...

I'm sure MLG will be on here to tell us that ours is better because no one needs that many pitches and their ice bath freezers are 2inches narrower.

On a more positive note it's nice to see the millions we pay to the oil producing countries for fuel coming back to us in investment - UK plc me up

  • 2 months later...

"However, during construction of the main pavilion the Club was informed by our contractors of concerns regarding the stability and strength of the Dome structure.

These concerns led to a recent temporary pause in the project whilst specific aspects of the best way forward were agreed. With that process now complete, work restarted two weeks ago."

Seems reasonble to me? Don't expect that decision is taken lightly to knock it down and reconsturct it from scratch!

This is clearly a lie as it doesn't fit with some people's agendas. Surely this is a Cortese line as he's a horrible geezer who wants the worst for us....

Something is definitely afoot, I only counted 8 workmen in the whole gallery...

They must be the ones that Cortese has paid off to lurk on site and make it look as though things are still progressing. He doesn't fool me, if we had loads of money like everyone says we have, there would be loads more people on site.

Cortese out!!!

Cant people see that it is all a computer generated building to fool the masses because the club is going to the wall and we are broke, cant afford players wages, hence why Gaston has gone back to Uraguay. Either that or more likely everyone who has pontificated about the stopping of building was talking Rollocks. :D

Well Leadbitter were working on it for a number of months this year after gutting it, knocking walls through etc etc and now they've decided to knock it down and build a new dome from scratch.

So they didn't build it then. So there would be no reason to hold payment back because it was ****ed like Graffito said.

Maybe they ****ed it during the gutting process? They were knocking down walls etc in the dome in the Staplewood videos we had earlier in the year.

Don't be silly.

Cortese is clearly a troll but doesn't like using the internet in case he stumbles onto something nasty about him. So instead he plans extravagant and expensive construction, renovation etc. work and then refuses to pay.

Then he declines to turn up to "detention" when the courts order him to pay up.

Maybe they didn't and they just didn't get paid. It's not like we've got form of doing this is it.

Is it feasible the BVI loan could be a tax efficient way to pay for the new training dome as the construction issue arose around the same time the loan was taken out? Perhaps the two tie in with each other?

Maybe, but I doubt it. One of the main stumbling blocks for Saints being able to conclude a deal was because of the lack of trust by the South Americans on money being released through / by football governing bodies. I imagine the deal to be very simple where payment cannot be stopped after a certain period of time with the money already held in an escrow account for some where around £3M. There's a lot of corruption in SA football within the clubs and the authorities, so it's no surprise they would not want any interference.

The construction coincidence would be in line with when they got a good look at the footings in my book, but just speculation. As for tax efficiency, you would be far better to be in debt to the same tune with an extra decent player on the field than having to rebuild the training ground. One thing this does give us a clue about is the extent of the financial back up behind us, definitely not unlimited. I doubt many have added the loan on to Ramirez transfer fee, but that surely must be coming!

Sorry; which South Americans are you talking about?
